[Freeciv-Dev] [patch #2019] [mapimg] map image support for the client

2010-10-18 Thread Matthias Pfafferodt

Follow-up Comment #11, patch #2019 (project freeciv):

updated patch; changes:

* include gui changes by pepeto (save dialog)
* rename some functions as mapimg_*()
* display only files in the current directory

It reads the files from the save directories, but saves them
 in the current directory.

see above

File names are duplicated when getting the list (Save as...).

Fixed in bug #16887

[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #16886] Show trade routes in progress

2010-10-18 Thread HanduMan

Follow-up Comment #1, bug #16886 (project freeciv):

I like the idea but why not just draw the route line between any
caravan/freight and their home city? Regardless of their currently active
commands. Most of my caravans travel to their destination onboard a ship.

Re: [Freeciv-Dev] x crashes

2010-10-18 Thread David Lowe

I tried this. The crash still happens.

I have been reading various threads on the subject. Such as:

 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17713

 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23082

But no clear fix is presented but it has been marked as resolved.

I'm not sure that the first case is related to your situation, since it
relates to X failing to start - this is not what you are seeing. The second
sounds like your case. Their bug # 23082 is not closed, so it might be a bit
of waiting game while a final version patch is developed and gradually makes
its way into distro releases. Hopefully you have turned on 'backports' or are
perhaps considering Squeeze, as Lenny is essentially finished. You should
probably also file a bug report with Debian, or at least mention this on their
forums or listmail. Otherwise it is unlikely that they will take the effort to
put this in their Lenny repository.

I'm a bit wary of using a nonstandard kernel under debian.

Well, we're not talking anything that drastic - at least not yet. The
most radical suggestion i would contemplate now would be to force X.Org back to
the previous version. However, i'm not exactly sure how this would be
accomplished; it'd be particularly tricky since so many other packages depend
on it. It is very likely that Gnome in Lenny would cease to work, and you'd
have to regress it as well. The resulting chain reaction would essentially end
up having a system that was so Etch-like that it would be easier to go back to
Etch.

I do have one more simple idea that might be worth trying: change your
screen resolution down to a smaller one and see if that doesn't help. It could
be that the crash is due to memory used by the onboard video being stolen by
the CPU, and it simply wasn't likely to happen until you changed to a larger
monitor and [presumably] a screen mode needing more bytes.

[Freeciv-Dev] [patch #2019] [mapimg] map image support for the client

2010-10-18 Thread Matthias Pfafferodt

Follow-up Comment #13, patch #2019 (project freeciv):

There is a small bug in the implementation of the new dialogs. If one does
not clicks 'save' but hits enter in the file name text box, the client
crashs. I did add an assert (see error.diff) and pdialog is NULL at this
point ...

display only files in the current directory.

Should the client only read and write on the current directory? I doubt this
is the expected behaviour. I should probably used the save dirs? Or implement
a image directory handler?

2010-10-18 Thread pepeto

Update of bug #16886 (project freeciv):

Priority: 5 - Normal = 1 - Later

___

Follow-up Comment #3:

The idea is good. It looks like warclient trade routes (except that trade
routes in warclient are real structures so handling them is really easier).

The coding style of this patch doesn't fit Freeciv coding style.

I am not sure that struct unit::goto_tile is usable on client side. Also, if
goto_tile is NULL, it will already crash.

I like the idea but why not just draw the route line between
any caravan/freight and their home city? Regardless of their
currently active commands. Most of my caravans travel to their
 destination onboard a ship.

I am not sure about it. Maybe, caravans with orders should points to the
destination cities, else only between the caravans on their home cities.

PS: This is a patch and not a bug, this would have been created at

Follow-up Comment #2:

 Is this really portable?

It is _not_ portable. For non-unix systems or systems without the environment
variable $PWD the current behaviour is not changed. I have no knowledge about
such systems to get the current directory there.

Why returning as a read-or-write data?

No reason - it chould be const char *.

2010-10-18 Thread Matthias Pfafferodt

___

Follow-up Comment #15:

Should the client only read and write on the current
directory? I doubt this is the expected behaviour. I should
probably used the save dirs? Or implement a image directory
 handler?

I do expect that the map images generated from the client are saved on the
client side. Thus, the save directories do not have to be available and the
user should decide there to save the file.

Is it possible to use a generic save dialog (i.e from the gtk toolkit) with a
selection of the directory etc.?
