[Freeciv-Dev] [patch #2155] Base the Holy See nation on the Papal States

2010-11-01 Thread Daniel Markstedt

URL:

Summary: Base the Holy See nation on the Papal States
 Project: Freeciv
Submitted by: dmarks
Submitted on: Tuesday 11/02/2010 at 14:46
Category: rulesets
Priority: 5 - Normal
  Status: Ready For Test
 Privacy: Public
 Assigned to: mixcoatl
Originator Email:
 Open/Closed: Open
 Discussion Lock: Any
 Planned Release:

___

Details:

Using the Papal States as the basis for the Holy See nation has two
benefits:

-The nation adjective is 'Papal' rather than 'Holy', which is slightly less
silly IMHO =)
-Use real-life cities from historical Papal States territory rather than the
current list of names of Catholic saints, which definitely is less silly!

One drawback:

-Nation cannot be in Modern group

[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #16994] Some bugs with units

2010-11-01 Thread David Lowe

Follow-up Comment #2, bug #16994 (project freeciv):

I sometimes get the "Lost connection to server!", but not the other messages.
Presumably it's a difference in verbosity levels. Also getting the
occasional quitidle savegame. One of my allies has ghost units, in the
attached T396 savegame there are some Indian Cruisers in Kirkuk that don't
move and don't heal. I also saw an oddity in which i load some units in a
Transport, move the Transport to its full movement [ending in another city],
then select the loaded units from inside the city dialog and unload them. In
some instances, those units are never offered a chance to move unless i go out
of my way to click on them.

[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #16999] AI doesn't know how to handle a blocked unit

___

Details:

When an AI controlled unit is blocked by another unit's ZOC, the AI doesn't
seem to know how to adapt to this situation; e.g. if the AI's Settler is
bound for tile X, but cannot complete a goto there since another player's
unit blocks its path, it just stays put until the other unit is moved.

Can be exploited to passive-aggressively block a friendly AI player's early
expansion.

Taking a player in an ongoing game doesn't seem to work recently in trunk.

While attached to one player in a locally started game, do /take foo in the
chatline. This throws you back to the pregame UI. At this stage it doesn't
seem possible to return to the game at all.

A simple /obs doesn't seem to work either.

[Freeciv-Dev] [patch #2152] cleanup savegame version (compatibility)

Follow-up Comment #14, patch #2152 (project freeciv):

> I mean the savegame options "embassies2" and "vision". (lines
> 245, 246).

If 2.3 uses the new savegame format (savegame2.c) as default format, these
options are not relevant as the entire format was updated/changed. The old
file (savegame.c) is only used to load old save files or (as debug build)
save the old format.

As best as I can determine, tiles are loaded in two phases: 1) When the
client starts up, cursors, fog, and some other misc. sprites are loaded.

This is done in: tileset_load_tiles which takes care of freeing the large
files.

Then upon connecting to a server, the bulk of the terrain sprites are loaded
after receiving ruleset information. However the big sprites are not freed
after this.

For Amplio this is a cost of 20MB

[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #16129] Re-evaluate conflicting nations

2010-11-01 Thread Daniel Markstedt

Update of bug #16129 (project freeciv):

Status: Need Info => Ready For Test

___

Follow-up Comment #6:

Patch updated against recent trunk.

Jos, I could not help but noticing that in the last revision of the German
ruleset on trunk, you've not only left the conflicting nations in but also
appended the newly added nations that are part of today's German Federation.
So I've left any changes to the German ruleset out of this patch and leave it
up to you to make any further changes there.

Do you mean the reference as 'can read/write old savefile'? I'm not aware of
other references.

Follow-up Comment #7, patch #2152 (project freeciv):

Yes, there should be no change. So only for major/minor versions ... ;-)

In the past, the savegame.c file had a lot of conditions where the existence
of some data was checked. Depending on the result, some additional data was
loaded from the savegame or not. Using the compatibility functions (even in
the development branch!), the savegame2.c file defines the current format
while old files can be loaded and saved using the compatibility functions.

Thus, changes to the savegame format while developing 2.4 should be done to
the main definitions, while a compatibility layer is created for 2.3 <=> 2.4
exchange.

Are we still on track to branch tomorrow? As Pepeto is one doing the
branching, this question is directed mainly to him.
It will still be possible to commit same patch to both trunk and S2_3 after
branching, if this is deemed necessary for stable branch.

No, I would like to discuss this before it is committed.

My aim are savegame files which are compatible between freeciv versions and
which are structured. One format definition for each change in the
development branch would be perhaps to much. But I think to add such a
possibility for changes between major/minor/patch numbers would be helpfull
(2.3.0 gets '3' with S_2_3 set to version '4' which is used when 2.3.1 is
released and so on). The development branch would need a high number to leave
space for some patch versions.

I don't really like the idea of having to increase the format every time
something changed. Not release savegames shouldn't be listed anywhere (2.2.99
is not a valid savegame version). It will be just confusing, and make lot of
noise, when changing many times the format for developing.

Making update-po at non-standard point of release cycle and before
announcing it well beforehand in i18n list is deviation from our old
practice.

* fix versions number handling for compatibility layer in savegame2.c
* more comments to explain how to use it

I hope, this can go into 2.3.0. It is the main reason for the new savegame
format - add an easy way to work with different versions. The patch is
extracted from patch #1795, which is for 2.4.0.

I also attached a small patch which shows how it is working.
