[Freeciv-Dev] [patch #1249] Emirate of Granada
Follow-up Comment #7, patch #1249 (project freeciv): Neat patch for trunk attached. Made the Al-Andalus conflict with the Spanish since the one kind of assumes the other did not exist. Follow-up Comment #6, patch #1249 (project freeciv): Is Qachtala a ruler or a town? A google search doesn't give anything useful. Follow-up Comment #5, patch #1249 (project freeciv): Email from Zakaria: -- Hello, In fact, it's my personal transliteration sytem to use -ah ending for some cities names, because they really do in arabic (and pronounced consonnent H at the end), and -ae for others because the end with long -à sound, like Azzahrae. So, it's correct to use Al-Amiria instead of Al-Amiriah and Azzahra instead, so to make it easy. I remark that Aljéziras is transliterated to Al-Jazira al-Hadr, in fact it is Al-Jazira al-Khadra, or Al-Jazira al-Khadrae, that means The green Island. KH is the transliteration of the phoneme 'J' in spanish like 'José' and 'Julio' ! Al-Basit is Al-Basita, that means the expansed land, Jayyan is Jayyana, you can add: Bald Al-Walid, that is Valadoville city, Banu Abbad ( an emirate of the Abbad family, I met spanish peopole having Abbad as Family name!) Al-Hulafae that is Huelva, that means the Allied (Kings) Melilya (mountains, ocean), that is in morocco like Sabta Qachtala, i have andalusian friend having Qachtoule as family name! I hope you like my contributions ! ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/patch/?1249 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev

Update of patch #1249 (project freeciv): Status:None = Ready For Test ___ Follow-up Comment #3: I got some input from our Moroccan contributor Zakaria over a chatting session. He was quite impressed over the quality and accuracy of the leader and city lists. He proposed the following corrections: leader 'Tariq' - 'Tariq ibn Ziad' leader 'Abd-ar-Rahman' - 'Abd-Arrahmane' city 'Al-Marriya' - 'Al-Amiriah' Then there's the question of naming - Zakaria argued that 'Andalusian' is the correct term, which is used when referring to Islamic Iberia in Morocco today. However, 'Andalusian' would theoretically conflict with a modern Spanish Andalusian nation, so I suggested the well-known Arabic term 'Al-Andalus' instead. This solution is implemented here in alandalus.ruleset including a slight rephrasing of the legend. I also took the opportunity to add a few more leader titles. Follow-up Comment #4, patch #1249 (project freeciv): Looks good. I've got a few comments. When looking for Arab city names I found out cities that end on -a depending on the source end on -a or -ah. For example, I ecnountered both Balansiyyah and Balansiya and both Tulaytulah and Tulaytula, I figured it depended on the transliteration system that is used and thought it was best to be consistent and decided to use the h-less version for every time. Please ask Zakaria if that is correct, and if Al-Amiriah shouldn't become Al-Amiria then. Furthermore in the legent 'Al-Andalus were' should become 'Al-Andalus was'. I've uploaded the Castilian and Leonese mentioned under the civilwar_nations (https://gna.org/patch/index.php?1412), Asturians have been uploaded earlier by another user (https://gna.org/patch/?1181). ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/patch/?1249 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev

Follow-up Comment #2, patch #1249 (project freeciv): Yours is much more detailed than mine. It's fine with me if this replaces it; the flag is more appropriate for this one as well. ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/patch/?1249 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev

URL: http://gna.org/patch/?1249 Summary: Emirate of Granada Project: Freeciv Submitted by: kudra Submitted on: Sunday 08/16/2009 at 20:20 Category: rulesets Priority: 3 - Low Status: None Privacy: Public Assigned to: None Originator Email: Open/Closed: Open Discussion Lock: Any Planned Release: None ___ Details: Moorish kingdom Emirate of Granada, 1228-1492. Because the Granada flag I've found is not GPL or public domain, this nation uses the flag of the Almohad dynasty, which predated the Nasrids (rulers when the area was known as the Emirate of Granada). Furthermore, I'm not certain that 'Moor' is in fact the adjectival form for a subject of the Emirate of Granada; 'Granadian' may be more appropriate. However, I went with 'moor' since it is better-known and less easily confused with the Grenadians. ___ File Attachments: --- Date: Sunday 08/16/2009 at 20:20 Name: granada.diff Size: 13kB By: kudra http://gna.org/patch/download.php?file_id=6460 ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/patch/?1249 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev
