Hey Louis,

I downloaded all these and by trial and error found the right combination
of LSL, NET.CFG RTGEODI ODIPKT11 and IPXODI.

Well there is really no way I can get the scource of this program. It was
written before my time without proper version management and I only have got
the newest scource and there is unfortunately no possibility to get the one
I need... That's why I was looking for some kind of workaround but of course
recompiling freecom was not the answer I was hoping for :). Anyway thanks
for the helpful resources, I'll take a look!

intend, without any safeguard against it. It's pretty much like taking a
shotgun with buckshot to shoot yourself in the foot. "Ab is' ab..."

Thanks for your concern but it's only dispensable data and the automatic
call through the program should not cause errors but you'll never know.
Actually I found an additional protection in deltree which spoils unintended
deletion of data from root directory. However as "alias" is only working in
prompt it won't matter I guess (or maybe it will if I am going for the
freecom compile...)

FYI, I just updated FDI to Preview 15. http://up.lod.bz/FDI
It includes may more packages on the USB version.

Switching into advanced mode during the installation provides an
easy way to include these packages on a per/install basis.
You can switch into advanced mode by pressing CTRL+C at the
"Welcome To FreeDOS” screen or at any other time FDI is waiting
for you to pick an option.

The best method to add programs to a custom install stick is to
create a FDI build environment and update the package lists.

However, there is an easy way to add stuff to your own “ALL” install.

1) Place the new packages in the appropriate directory:

FDSETUP\PACKAGES\BASE
FDSETUP\PACKAGES\UTIL
….

2) Add the package to the proper list on the install media:

FDSETUP\SETUP\FDPLBASE.LST
FDSETUP\SETUP\FDPLALL.LST

3) your done. But, you may want its information to show
up in FDIMPLES. So you will need to place a copy of
the package LSM file in the FDSETUP\PKGINFO directory
as a TXT file. You could use

FDIMPLES /LISTS to create the package lists. However,
you will need to copy and rename them. FDIMPLES’ list
editing is designed to work with the raw source and FDI
build environments and will require a little extra work
to use on a pre-built usb image.

Sometime in the hopefully near future, I want to create a couple
YouTube videos on using FDI to build custom releases and
FreeDOS based operating systems.

So, if you have a package for a utility called MYTHING.ZIP

add it to:

FDSETUP\PACKAGES\UTIL

Add util\mything to both or either:

FDSETUP\SETUP\FDPLBASE.LST
FDSETUP\SETUP\FDPLALL.LST

If you wish to create a custom package from scratch,
study one of the simple packages that ship with FDI.
You will need to mimic the directory structor in the
zip archive. Also, you will need to create a custom
LSM (package information file) in the APPINFO\
directory.

Hope this helps a little.

Thanks, Jerome.

[Freedos-user] Preview 15, The Final Preview.

2016-03-29 Thread Jerome E. Shidel Jr.
Hello All,

Well I finally had a little bit of spare time and incorporated the enhancements
I mentioned.

I foresee no further changes or enhancements. Technically, preview 15 should be
called
Beta or RC 1. However, I just finished the modifications and hammered on the
latest
version. So, I am just calling it Preview 15.

Basically, what has changed from 14 to 15.

Updated V8Power Tools.
Updated FDIMPLES.
Many additions to ALL package list.
Many additions to EXTRA software.
DOSBox installation support.

http://up.lod.bz/FDI

Thanks, Jerome

Is this program something you wrote or somebody else? Is it closed
source? Because this is really sounding like some extreme (i.e. not
recommended) workarounds for a flawed design.

You can recompile FreeCOM, but I wouldn't recommend it. I'd suggest
you fix your program (if at all possible). Of course, that may not be
feasible.

The sources on SourceForge for FreeCOM are for old stable 0.82pl3,
which (AFAIK) needs TurboC (or maybe TC++), but I don't know if that
includes Suppl or not. (I haven't tried lately, plus there is no
active maintainer.)

* http://edn.embarcadero.com/article/20841  (Turbo C 2.01)
* http://edn.embarcadero.com/article/21751  (Turbo C++ 1.01)

I don't see any 0.84pre2 sources on iBiblio in the obvious place
(pointed to by read-only Software List, in "BASE"), but I think I can
find it elsewhere.

*
https://www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/freedos/files/distributions/1.0/pkgs/commands.zip

This one (I assume) already has Suppl inside, but here it is anyways
(just in case):

*
https://www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/freedos/files/distributions/1.0/pkgs/suppls.zip

Jeremy once said that the SVN version of FreeCOM compiles with
OpenWatcom and works fine, but I haven't tested it myself.
Nevertheless, here it is, if you really want to recompile:

Which ones in particular? Most are mirrored on iBiblio:

https://www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/freedos/files/

Why not? What was the problem (or error)? What exactly did you try that failed?

> Is there a way to get the "full install" on a bootable USB key? I don't have a
> bunch of experience.

"Full install" doesn't really mean much. Sure, you can get "BASE" and
"UTIL" and who knows what else ("EDIT", "NET"), but usually you don't
need all that stuff. If you just want a bunch of stuff to play around
with, then fine. I'm just saying, it's not really necessary to have
ten text editors (for instance).

Anyways, it's been a while since I've tried, but I'm pretty sure that
RUFUS can use an .iso file. In fact, it still lists FreeDOS on its
website under "Non exhaustive list of ISOs Rufus is known to work
with". So try using RUFUS again but specifying the fd11src.iso file.

Or you could use something like 7-Zip (GUI file manager or even
cmdline "7z") to manually extract files from the .iso itself. But most
of this stuff is already available separately on iBiblio in .ZIP form.

del C:\directory\*.*

rd C:\directory

Even that will fail, I think, if there are some hidden files/folders. Start
with that and you can build it into an alias command in freecom.

alias myrd="del %1%\*.* ; rd %1%"

I believe that's the right syntax.

Hey all!

Once again I am trying to run some old programs under Linux emulation DOSEMU
which is making use of FREEDOS. In one of them you have the option to delete
directories, it does it like this:

del C:\directory\*.rec

del C:\directory\*.dat

del C:\directory\eti.bin

rd C:\directory

As “rd” only removes directories if they are empty the folder to be removed
must only contain files of types .rec, .dat and a file eti.bin else it won’t be
removed. My problem is that today there are some other files in this folder too
so I can’t remove it from within my program.

The appropriate way to delete directories would be ‘deltree’ I guess but that’s
a standalone .com program while rd and del are part of command.com
. I tried to create a file rd.bat which should catch the
call but if I do “rd.bat” freedos wants to remove the directory “.bat”. Is
there any way to get a workaround to this or how can I compile my own version
of command.com ?

Thanks
