Yes, indeed, Qbasic runs nicely on Windows XP. It can also be run very well
in Dosbox or Dosemu under Linux.

Just copy the qbasic.exe interpreter anywhere in your Windows XP computer,
for example on the desktop. For running it just double click on qbasic.exe and
off it goes. Windows XP has NTVDM (New Technology Virtual DOS Machine) that can
run a lot of DOS programs, including Qbasic.
There is no
I managed to install and Run Abiword on Windows 2000. I installed Windows
2000 on a PC with a 200 MHz processor, 64 MB of RAM, 2 GB hard disk (much older
than the PC itself) and it ran quite well. It ran Seamonkey quite well, also.
I will look for Wordperfect in order to run it under
I installed Freebasic for Linux, some more apps and Geany and I managed to
make some programs. I also installed Freebasic for Windows using Wine and I
managed to compile .bas files to Windows executables. I will also use Freebasic
for DOS under Linux in Dosbox and under Freedos.

If you do not have a CD drive for your PC, then it would be useful to buy a
USB CD or DVD-RW drive. It is always useful, so it is not a waste of money. You
can use later for a lot of interesting things. And it is not very expensive,
around 100 RON in Romania, so 32 dollars.

Today I tried Arachne and Gemweb on a Pentium I at the office and did not
connect. There is a Realtek ethernet card.
Please tell me what to do. The packet drivers failed.
I am writing under Damn Small Linux on the same Pentium I.
Please send me or point me to a comprehensive Freedos manual.
I tried several times these days to configure Internet connection under
Freedos, by using Arachne (I have ADSL PPPoE, Fiberlink technology) and I
failed. I also had some trouble with this type of connection under Linux.
You gave me a good idea but it did not turn out wel.
I tried to install Freedos on a 2 GB Jetflash on which the MBR
was already messed up. When installing, the system files and folders
were copied OK on the Jetflash but then it failed to boot up. GRUB gave
strange error messages. Finally I
I am sorry for the messed up reply, in bold letters. I will try.
I will inform you on the progress.

Damn Small Linux and Puppy (again) are on my stick.
The puppy installation was simply copied from the hard disk

Please tell me, is Freedos vulnerable to DOS viruses ?
Please point me to a site where I could find DOS viruses ! I would like to
play with them in Dosbox under Linux Mint

Not bad. I had to use Alt + F3 to be able to use the menus at the top. It seems
that Freebasic is a powerful programming tool. I would use it. Unfortunately, I
have problems with it under Linux (Ubuntu, then Linux Mint at present).

I think Nevasca would be very useful, anyway, more useful than Damn Small
Linux but it most probably will not replace Windows and Linux. I am sure it
will be useful for hardware with low RAM (not only old hardware), maybe many
household and industrial machines, cell phones, highly
I saw something like that on the Internet but could not really find and
download it.
Please send some info.
Really, in a month I have not managed to make anything useful by using

Please send me info about a good movie player for DOS.
I used mpxplay for music and Gaze for viewing pics. Both are nice.

I installed Freedos at home, amazingly, without
messing up my PC. I had an NTFS partition (without
Windows) that had to be converted to FAT32 (it took
more than an hour, the rest went smoothly).
Now Ubuntu GRUB loads all the OSes, including
Freedos. It was easy to put programs onto the Freedos
I installed it but only from the base CD. Now it realy offers me only some
options at startup and then only the command prompt. What should I do to
install programs and search the Web ? How can I put files into the computer
under Freedos from a CD ? I also can access the Freedos partition
Then, please, somebody send me some if available.
But I do not know how to get rid of the attachments from my email on this
group, those with Visual Studio. These do not belong to me.

Where can I download from some drivers for DOS for Realtek ethernet cards ? I
looked them up on the Internet but the download mirrors have been emptied.
Alex
I thonk I managed to download one, though, but I am not sure.

At home it is OK, no trouble with Mandriva or Ubuntu. At the office we have,
among others, a PC with a hard disk with 2 GB of memory and its RAM is of 128
GB. I Decided to run ROSLIMS from the live CD, but Freedos would also be
useful.
Under Ubuntu I could use only DOSBOX, under Mandriva
excuse me, 128 mb of RAM
