I am planning to install FreeDOS to an old Seagate disk drive that I
converted to a USB drive by installing it into a Vantec NexStar3
NST-360U2-BK hard drive enclosure.
As part of this installation process, I would like to format this
USB-converted drive, but when I select that option, I get
No worries on that score, Ralf. I got it all straightened out. I
installed the other version of FreeDOS (fdbasews.iso) using 'UNetbootin'
and got much better results. FreeDOS is now successfully installed on my
USB drive with no apparent complications.
On that note, I'd like to thank you and
I am interested in installing an external modem in FreeDOS so that I can
fax documents or make phone calls. Does FreeDOS come with any software
that can allow for modem installations?

Eric, I think you mean Bret Johnson ... right? In any case I used his
USB DOS drivers, and it picked up my modem, but only recognizes it as an
Unknown Device. I think that if I can get around that particular
obstacle, my modem can work. I would have to test it, of course, to make
sure. :)
Speaking for myself, I'm hardly qualified to say whether Windows or
Linux are reliable. I will only say that I prefer using Linux instead of
Windows, particularly due to these Windows viruses I've been hearing about.
As for FreeDOS, I will only say it allows me to use the New Deal Office
Suite
