[Freedos-user] Arachne Stopped Working

2006-10-13 Thread Lester V
Yesterday Arachne was working fine. After that the only thing I did was defragging (Defrag v1.21) drive C and shutting off the computer. Arachne is on drive D which is visible in WinXP ad was defragged from there.  After starting FreeDos a few hours later I'm back to square one: tcp/ip looks

Re: [Freedos-user] Defrag 1.21 Full Optimization Problems

2006-10-15 Thread Lester V
After FDOS folder was moved from drive C to drive D Defrag's full optimization works ok. There are only four files (and no folders) left on drive C: - kernel.sys - command.com - fdconfig.sys - fdauto.bat Drastic solution but very effective. I made drive D visible from WinXP so it can be def

Arachne connection problems were apparently related to fragmentation of drive C. I was trying to resolve the issue of FreeDos Defrag v1.21 returning error when set to "full optimization". Here is the quote from another thread describing the fix to both Defrag and Arachne issue. Lester -

[Freedos-user] Arachne - Lantcp.cfg

2006-10-15 Thread Lester V
Here is my "Lantcp.cfg" used to connect Arachne browser to the internet. The browser works just fine, nevertheless, all comments are welcome: LANTCP.CFG hostname=arachne sockdelay=30 mss=1452 (default was 512) 1) "Sockdelay" could probably be set lower on the new fast computer, not sure i

I use UMBPCI: DOS=HIGH,UMB DOSDATA=UMB DEVICE=D:\FDOS\BIN\FDXXMS.SYS BIOS NUMHANDLES=128 DEVICE=D:\FDOS\BIN\UMBPCI.SYS Eric: rtspkt does not load itself high, but as with all dma related drives, it is possible that it even does not work properly when you load it high manual

Re: [Freedos-user] Rtspkt.com, Fdxxms, Himem

2006-10-16 Thread Lester V
> Eric: in which way is Fdxxms better than Himem? It was my impression from browsing around faqs and wiki last winter, when I was setting up FreeDos for the first time, that Fdxxms+Umbpci was preferred over Himem+Emm386. Maybe that has changed since then, I don't follow this list all the time.

[Freedos-user] Two Archives Of FreeDOS List

2006-10-17 Thread Lester V
I have just discovered the second link to archives of this list sorted by thread: http://www.mail-archive.com/freedos-user@lists.sourceforge.net/ The link is much better than " Freedos-user Archives" link from this page, which many times is slow to open even in WinXP: https://lists.sourceforg

[Freedos-user] Rtspkt Driver File Size

2006-10-21 Thread Lester V
I have two files of different size: rtspkt.com - 9 KB rtspkt.com - 33 KB The smaller one was downloaded somewhere from Hewlett Packard website and the larger one from here: http://sonic.net/support/nic_drivers/nway/RTSPKT/ The large file probably has debugging code, but who knows. Both show v
