Does anyone have experience with having both and IDE and SATA (via
SATA-to-IDE adapter) installed in the same G4 Macintosh?

Thanks, Bruce.
I am about to purchase an LG drive from OWC (with an SATA-IDE/ATAPI
converter). I realize that I will likely loose write capability, but I
think that is a function of the adapter that is coming with the product.
I'm in the process of researching other adapters that might allow
Hello everyone,
My 15-year old original Pioneer optical drive has failed completely. I
removed it took it apart, cleaned it which brought it back to life for
about one day. Today it refuses to read anything!
Time to replace it and I am wondering what folks are using these days.

Hello everyone,
I'm sure that this question has been asked before, but I would appreciate
receiving any information regarding replacement / upgrades for my "old"
(original) hard drive.
I'm concerned that it has been with me for over 15 years. How should I
replace and/or upgrade it?
Thanks in
Hello everyone,
As the subject line says, I'm wondering if anyone has installed an SSD in their
G4? If so, would you please offer recommendations and comments on how it
performs?
Thanks,
Bill

Has anyone manually cleaned the laser lens on their DVD drive? I'm tempted
at this point to remove the drive, take it apart and attempt to clean it
manually until a replacement arrives.
I understand that the lenses on the original Pioneer 103 DVR drives must be

Thanks, Pete.
I'll look into the adjustment as well. Hopefully I'll be able to attempt
the cleaning within the next day or two as time permits.
Thanks for the prompt response!

Hello all,
As the subject line implies, the Superdrive in my trusty Quicksilver will
no longer read DVDs. CDs appear to read ok, although burning is becoming
problematic (50-50 chance of success).
Can anyone suggest a replacement?
Thanks in advance,
Bill

Jeff,
Have you encountered any problems with iTunes 11 or WiFi with your setup?
I am seriously considering doing the same thing. Recently I lost the use of my
G4 iMac due to a blown power supply, and my G3 PowerBook (CPU).
I'm looking for something that can support my two iPhones running iOS
Thanks, Michael.

Thanks for the responses everyone.
I confirmed that the noise was coming from the CPU cooling fan.
I removed it, removed the label, applied about 5 small drops of 3-in-1 oil
to the bearing and worked it in until the fan blades were able to move
freely.
I replaced the unit, and it is much, much
Hello G4 users,
My 2002 Quicksilver is starting to make some noise associated with the CPU
cooling fan (as far as I can isolate it).
Can anyone share experiences re: replacing this fan?
Is it fairly easy to remove, replace and/or repair (i.e., lube?)
Thanks,
Bill

I hope that this will keep me in business until I can replace the fan with
the new one.
Thanks to everyone for your advice and comments.

I know that you replaced your fan, Peter, has anyone replaced the full PSU?
If so, how difficult is it?

Thanks again for the responses .. I assume the PSU fan is 80 x 80 x 25 mm,
at least 32 cfm? Any restrictions on current draw at 12 v?

I have used my 2002 Quicksilver G4 (867 MHz, Mac OS X 10.5.8) everyday for
about the past 9 years.
It does everything I need -- e-mail, web browsing, music, video and
photography.
I use NeoOffice as my document processor, presentation maker, and for
spreadsheets.
I am quite happy with it!
