Subject: PowerMac G5 sleep issue
My G5 PowerMac (latest generation) would not auto deep-sleep (worked fine when
done by hand) and that can cost a good chunk of money in electricity (~$100 a
year
Thought folks here may get some valuable info from this post on Cube Owners by
a friend of mine in Grand Junction Colorado, Anwar Shiekh, We both have been
working for two weeks on this problem. Maybe some members have some more input?
Lost another big chunk of time on a lack of auto

I have a DP 1.42 G4 running the latest version of 10.5
Since Christmas, it has been going to sleep every 15 mins of unuse, unless I
have the widgets open. FWIW I've always has the sleep settings turned on but
they rarely work.
So it's been over two weeks and its been working like a charm. No

for a new cable , just a lot of wasted hours finding the problem.
I'd run your machine on a known good hard drive , one stick of Ram, Apple
keyboard and mouse and nothing else installed and go from there.

Well, I've about thrown in the towel on this. I've replaced the scythe
fan with the original and set everything correctly and when I put the
system to sleep I got a kernel panic upon wake.
The only things I can imagine may be the problem is the power supply
or the processor? I don't get it.

I've been having some issues with my G4 DA; It will not sleep

try a PRAM reset first - press the restart button while holding down the P,
R, A and M keys on the keyboard and wait until it chimes three times before
letting these go and letting the DA continue on its start up procedure.

Sometimes third party hardware can cause sleep issues ( USB2.0 PCI cards being
the main culprit with this problem ) so it may be your PL CPU upgrade - maybe
.
I'm unsure what the voltage is for this - 5V as opposed to 7V ?

Sometimes it will sleep after a minute which is how I set it in Energy
