If not, go to Applications/Utilities/Grab. If your OS is 10.4.9, you should update it to 10.4.11 too. Maybe clean up a bunch of browser stuff (I like to use Onyx to clean all that stuff out). Re: Oh No I Need To Switch Emailers!
Well hello everyone it took me awhile, and yes, a program (Emailchemy) but I actually did it! I got all 13 years/32,262 emails out of Claris Emailer -- and into THUNDERBIRD! This email is coming to you on Thunderbird now (it's my third since migration). Oh, and you all know what ELSE this means? Since last week I broke down and "beat" my "G4 won't boot in OS 9 bug" by buying and installing Panther (10.3.2) on that HD -- and that cured the problem for which OS 9 had originally been the only cure, I'm totally off OS 9 except for Classic Mode...and that only for two very old programs which are still vital and won't run without Classic. Nope, there's no replacing those last two, not unless I write my own replacements, or stop modding my Sims game...both of which are doubtful. (Oh, and since I don't use those two programs when booted in Panther -- still on Tiger most of the time -- I didn't even set up my Panther drive to RUN Classic!) Thunderbird is pretty cool so far though. There's some "pain in the neck things" (one of which I thought getting off Claris would fix...sigh) but I attribute that to my usual lack of skill in adjusting to change! I'll get used to it pretty soon though, given the usual volume of my email habits. Anyway, thought I'd mention I actually got up and running with Thunderbird, after all my moaning and groaning... Please pass me some cheese to accompany my whine! :-) ~Yersinia. --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed Low End Mac's G3-5 List, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs. I am running a 6200 right now in a DA G4 with a 933 MHz QS processor. The monitor is a 28" set to 1920 x 1200 @ 60 MHz using the DVI port. I have had a second small CRT hooked up before as well. If yu do put a 6200 into your QS i recommend removing the passive heatsink and installing a GPU cooler. I'd go with SATA. Wait a minute, I DID go with SATA. I have a SATA controller and two SATA drives (.75 and 1 Tb) in my DA server. Since the QS supports large PATA directly I'd leave the 500 Gb in it unless you need more room. I just wish the SATA controllers were cheaper (as in as cheap as the same card for WinTel). I also have a QS with a 320Gb PATA in it. On the other hand I'd sort of want the larger capacity and faster drives in the faster computer. It depends on what you are doing with them. AGP graphics card for G4 MDD 2003
I have a 2003 MDD whose original graphics card was the ATI Radeon 9000 with 64MB VRAM. Quartz Extreme supported, Core Image not supported. I recently bought two other video cards: --ATI Radeon 9600 with 64MB VRAM, Quartz Extreme and Core Image both supported. --nVidia GeForce 4 Ti 4600 with 128MB VRAM, Quartz Extreme supported, Core Image NOT supported. Is one of these cards better than the other? I don't notice a difference, but then I am not playing high-end games or editing digital video. Also, is there any benefit to installing the driver? ATI has one to download for the 9600. I can't find one for the nVidia. Any feedback appreciated. Thanks. Re: My Ethernet Duel G4 want start after updating.
Peace And Health, Dan I replaced the 3.6V battery, tested the battery which registered good. In the beginning I used the reset button to jump start the computer, which worked for a week. Now it only lights up and no noise. Its not the power because it lights up right? . Do you think if I replaced the mother board, I could get some power into it. I unplugged everything except the key-board and monitor, with the same results. what is your thoughts? choice On May 7, 2009, at 10:18 AM, Dan wrote: > > At 11:33 AM -0400 5/6/2009, photoartcom wrote: >> >> They seem to power up, meaning the lights come on. RE: Switching to OS X.3
Thanks, I think the existing drive is a 16 but it is a bit small, and I will follow your advice the 4 choices for install confused me as to what would be best. I have had to use Bloze to long as my late wife had to have it for work, only 2 choices there, so as soon as I get the G4 fairly modern in OS X. Then the Bloze machine is going to freecycle and I will save up for a newer Mac. It is a big step up though from my Quadra 6800 AV Kirk "He who has honor need not fear death." That would probably be the best, becasue if this is the original drive in the G4 it's probably only 6 or 10 gigs, right? Put in the 30 gig (leave in the existing drive). Use Carbon Copy CLoner to copy your existing boot volume to the 30 gig drive. Boot from the 10.3 CD, and after you seelct the 30G drive to install on, click on the Options button in the installer. Choose Archive & Install and leave preserve user settings checked. This keeps all your user accounts but gives you a clean System install. You will have to re-install any 3rd party system drivers and pref panes; for example, when I do this I've got to re-install things like my Kensington and Wacom drivers. Once the new drive is upgraded and running well, you can reformat the old drive and use it for additional storage or a backup boot systems, etc. -- Bruce Johnson University of Arizona College of Pharmacy Information Technology Group Institutions do not have opinions, merely customs --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed Low End Mac's G3-5 List, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs. Switching to OS X.3
My G4 sawtooth, came with OS X.2 and I found the right install of 3, I want to do the switch, what would be the best way to do it? I can even replace the drive if need be as I have a spare 30 Gig sitting in a box, it is brand new. I replaced the DVD ROM with a writer and up the memory so I am not afraid to go into it. I would like to go to 10.4 but I haven't found a retail install I can afford, so this will have to do for a bit. Kirk "He who has honor need not fear death." Re: Strange "Downloads" While Using Safari...
Hmm . . . Interesting, just comparing notes here - I use Firefox for most of my mail activity, but still use Safari for Apple comms etc. Haven't been getting any odd downloads like you have, but in the past few days Command-Q has become ineffective and I've been having to Force Quit to get out of it. Otherwise, I stare at the spinning beachball forever . . . Wondering if this oddity and the behaviour you're experiencing could be somehow related? The only thing I've installed lately has been an update to Flip4Mac.
