I talked to someone who said my hard drive may be about to crash. He also said the TV shows I've bought from iTunes could be slowing it down. I'd appreciate any input you may have. First, run a Verify Disk pass on your HD(s) using Disk Utility. If it finds any errors, boot on your OS X DVD and run Disk Utility from there, and repair the disk(s). Next, run the three maintenance scripts (daily, weekly, monthly, they're called) from Apple, then clear your user, system, and kernel caches, then reboot. Do this all with a free tool such as OnyX. Note that the reboot after clearing your kernel cache will take quite a bit longer than normal, because it has to rebuild that cache. http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs/english.html This all won't rule out the possibility of a failing HD. So it's a good idea to run a full backup. Our fav tool for that is also free... No file, on its own (I mean, not running/playing), could slow down the computer. Re: Quicksilver 2002 running slow...
There is about 10 gigs left on the drive. I was thinking about getting a second hard drive. I run the disk utility, and I usually go straight to repair disk permissions. I have MacJanitor. Is that program not good enough? I did have OnyX but I took it off my drive. Maybe I need to go get it back!
