Re: [Audyssey] Mach1 problems and bugs.
Hi Shaun, A problem with having a mod, mods or just allowing sound files to be changed in Mach 1 is that the game code was written to work with the sound files that it comes with. Other sound files may cause the game to not work correctly, crash or work differently on different computers and as you know we had an international competition series going for years. If the game did not run the same on all computers it would have skewed the race times and thus the competitions would not have been valid. [Audyssey] MK nostalgia
Hi Yohandy and all Mortal Kombat fans, I'd like to thank you very much for your insightful review. It certainly brought lots of sentimental memories back to me from the times when there was a guy owning PS2 and Deadly Aliance living just downstairs from me. I used to stay in his flat for endless hours and hours, watching him and my brother play against each other and improve their skills radically every single day, then shyly asking them to let me try it out for a while, feeling the incredible surprise of how well I was able to play it, later fascinating them by my proficiency with scorpion and Raiden, and finally making them open up their mouths in pure astonishment when I was able to beat both the sighted guys in about a minute or so with flawless victory. I can remember it so clearly, just like it was yesterday when we played like that for the last time. However, I can no longer stay in touch with that person, as he had moved to the other side of our country, and I don't unfortunately know anyone else who has PS2 and Mortal Kombat. I can still feel the powerful motivation to sit in front of the console, trying to learn more and even more attacks, moves and combos, wanting to become better and better. I can still hear my brother and our friend forcing me to stop for a while and then playing series of deadly matches against each other, increasing their skills with their favorite characters and preparing to defeat me like hell... Wish I had a PS2 too so that I would be able to play that wonderful game once again... :-) I do surely encourage you to do more recordings, if you find it valuable and interesting, and especially funny for yourself. I would for example really welcome an entire arcade session without any explanations or so, just recorded gameplay, so that I could listen to it carefully, concentrate on all the nuances that can be caught through the sounds and enjoy the nice fights. I wasn't aware that ARmagedon has already been released either. :-) I've already listened to your Deception demo like three times or so and I can still find something new and surprising in it. It also gave me a whole lota new will, interest, power and longing to push the development forward on my own accessible adaptation of the MK style. I wrote an informal update about Lethal Force and sent it to this list several months ago and I haven't really done much since that time. I've just recorded the intro sequence and the announcer, wrote a few lines of the design docs, got one or two small pieces of music ready and searched for several rather basic sounds, but that's all. Now, however, I have started searching for more involved sounds of the required environment, footsteps, punches and so on, have began to enlarge and plan out the design pretty precisely, etc... It will certainly take me a few years to learn a desired programming language and to practice enough so that I'll be able to create such a massive project, but I can start doing something for its release even today... And I do thank you for the impulse... Take care and enjoy Mortal Kombating, Lukas ___ Gamers mailing list .. Re: [Audyssey] New Raceway Trailor Released.
O O K, that a past post had mentioned something about you getting sounds files that included his voice saying certain phrases. Crash - Original Message - From: Thomas Ward [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Monday, October 09, 2006 3:29 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] New Raceway Trailor Released. Hi, The flapping flag sound I can do. I have one around somewhere in my huge collection of wav effects. As for the lights I did not know that, but I was simply planning on adding a feature that announces the color of the flag, and announces when the flag changes color. As for Jim's sound effects what are you talking about? I got a big zero from James North on that score. He never gave me the esp file containing all the effects which pretty has me screwed. I am still trying to get my hands on the esp file that shipped with the beta that the beta testers had. Gary Whittington wrote: No, but thinking what may sound like it and it may be found. A flag in a breeze. I know someone could even create that. Then have several flags sounds you could use a flag sound being wiped around. That would not be during the race but made a special effect in menus or buttons. Just brain storming more here. As you know that lights are also used to indicate the color of the flag. These light post are put around the track for drivers can see if the flag turns yellow or red and wehn racing resumes green. I think a good idea would have certain sounds for the different colors. Now where the post are set at on the track can help also driving. The gamer could hear a sound from the post say a certain beeping, besides telling the driver the flag is still green, but turn 3 is coming up. and the driver should make its move down to the inside, gear down, or break hard to the left depending on the track of course. IN fact if the driver is in the track groove they should be hear all the sound post. So, in effect using those other RaceWay sounds for turning can still be used when that driver is not in the groove, but it wold be nice to know that I am in the correct path to get around the track the fastest. Lastly, you had not mention if there was a included sound effect from that Jim's group of sounds for the yellow line. It would be nice to have a Yellow line warning as well. Actually, if you press Alt to go to the menu bar, then W to go to the Window menu, you can select which pane you want. If you click Rooms, you'll be in the Rooms menu which ppears as a list view which can be accessed with the normal PC cursor. Then just go to the room you want to edit and press Enter. That should save you a lot of time and frustration. The one that gets me is the Task system. Maybe it's just me but the manual confused me a bit on that. I know you can have a character say something different if a particular task is or is not completed, but I'm not sure how to create a task really. I select what room I want the game to show the description for as well as any additional messages, but it tells me I haven't selected any rooms for the task to complete in. Re: [Audyssey] Adrift Text Adventure Creator...
Right now I'm working on an RPG type game called Onyx's Curse. You play as Ehlana, an Elven warrior trying to rid the realm of a dragon who's been demanding tribute from the people for over twenty years. I've got part of the first town created and I've at least got the groundwork laid for a few other towns, but right now I'm just working on ironing out all the tasks and things. I find that when you're traveling withi a town, it makes more sense to make that part task driven. Si instead of typing North to go to a particular shop, I'd create a task that says enter insert shop name here. So for example when you start the game in the village of Anoth you'd type Enter Traveler's Rest and you'd enter the inn. Then you could either talk to people in the common room, go down to the cellar (assuming you get the key), or head upstairs for a long-awaited nap to restore all your stamina. - Original Message - From: Rachel D Keyte [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Wednesday, October 11, 2006 5:13 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Adrift Text Adventure Creator... It makes no sense, but oh well. I'm also still a bit confused on the battle system. - Original Message - From: Rachel D Keyte [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Wednesday, October 11, 2006 4:21 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Adrift Text Adventure Creator... oh, it's just fantastic! I can get over how powerful it is! we can create games as complicated or simple as we can. I'm starting off simple course. :) I spent a while reading the very clear manual but was overwhelmed. there's definitely a lot to remember but I found that actually getting in there and doing my game is allowing me to learn a lot easier and faster. The only real annoying issue I've had is that after i have created lots of rooms or characters or whatever, if I want to go back and edit a room or something, I will route jaws to PC cursor so I can find it, then I will press right mouse button, go down to edit, and it will be one of the rooms but, not the one I intended to edit. but then I'll go to edit any other one and it will take me back to the same room. Not sure if it's a jaws problem in it's interaction with the program or not but it can be very frustrating! Has anyone actually completed a game with adrift? I've had to start over a few times unfortunately. Cheers! At 12:15 AM 12/10/2006, you wrote: Adrift is more wizard driven. You don'thave to do actual coding. Actually no. The reply with field is what the character would say in response to the subject. So the subject might be favor, so the player would type Ask insert character about favor, and the character would reply with whatever you typed into the reply box. For instance Elynthia, the first innkeeper in my game, will have a favor for you to clear the rats out of the cellar, in exchange for which she'll give yo some stuff to help you. So you'd type Ask Elynthia about favor and she'd tell you what she wanted from you. - Original Message - From: Rachel D Keyte [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Wednesday, October 11, 2006 7:02 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Adrift Text Adventure Creator... ah wow, sounds good! :) with the conversations, when you are typing in a subject, is that like a question the player would ask to the character, and then the next feild is what the character would reply with? Re: [Audyssey] MK nostalgia
Wow man, that really makes me feel great. As I previously mentioned, I had no clue people would even listen to it. I was trying to capture an audience, and I think I've succeeded. I had a bunch of sighted people listening to it on the original sight. That was shocking to say the least. I could go ahead and record some deception gameplay, and armageddon as well, if you guys wish. For an amazing video gaming site containing original soundtracks, game art, etc, go here. http://gh.ffshrine.org?r=16426 - Original Message - From: Neo [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list Gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Wednesday, October 11, 2006 7:56 AM Subject: [Audyssey] MK nostalgia Hi Yohandy and all Mortal Kombat fans, I'd like to thank you very much for your insightful review.
