Re: [Audyssey] the word control in accessible gaming

2007-03-28 Thread jason
Nickol it's very simple in the English languate.
Control is an action you are performing the task what you want the command,
character, or thing to do. element is a word of science so is control as
well they are both synomyms in a way.
Synonym means two words that mean the same.
I hope I explained it right to you if not all you audio gamers can help
explain this matter to him, better then I can.

 Ok folks
Here's another word that fascinates me. Game controls. Its really
interesting. Devs, correct me on this one if I'm wrong.
Folks, can you compare dialogue box controls with game controls? A control
in a dialogue box is anything you can tab to in that dialogue box, well a
static box is also a dialogue box control but you can't tab to it.
So anything, list boxes, edit boxes, anything in a dialogue is called a
 control.
Also, the system menu in a program containing options such as minimize,
maximize and close is called a control menu.
But what can we classify as controls in games? Can I say that the movement
of my character is called a control?
Why did some devs chose to use the word control instead of element?
Lets take sod for example. Can I say that each room in a level of sod is
 called a control?
Why did programmers chose to use the word control in a dialogue box in
 any
case? Its not a word that will make sense to the man on the street. The
 man
on the street will know what you are talking about if you refer to a field
 in a dialogue box.
In normal English control means you take control of something, I control
 my
child. You're in charge of it, you're taking control of it.
So can we call movement in a game a game control? Can I sayh that the
function of firing a gun is also a game control?
Why did devs also chose to refer to game elements as game controls?
 Its just very interesting

Hi Søren,
This happens because I made the doors smaller than the door frames. So at
certain angles you can detect objects or rooms inside the doors.
And if one wall meets the corner of another wall there is a slight gap that
things could be detected through.
In the December 2005 public demo I had the penKnife in such a space so
people could detect it but not get it.
Being a developer, I could use the move through walls feature and grab the
penKnife.
smiles,
Phil

Subject: [Audyssey] the word happen in accessible gaming

 HI folks
I enjoy playhing around with words in the English language. I want to
 take
the initiative to discuss certain words in the English language; their
connotation to accessible gaming.I don't hope anyone minds.
The word happen is very interesting. Let me tell you why the word happen
 is
so interesting to me in accessible gaming.
I was listening to thetrupenum review on main menu.
When the guy was about to load the trupenum game he said:
All right, lets press control+alt+t and see what happens.
Its interesting that he use the word happens. The moment you press a hot
 key
or you select a program to open, you can say once that program is
starting up, its something that is happening.
If I download a game and I'm trying out the demo and I have never ever
listened to a review of this game and I start it up and I am amazed by
 the
sound when it starts up, I say: wow, something interesting happened just
now. I just like the word happen. When you forget the food on the stove,
 it
happens that the food overcooks. When you have a bottle of ginger beer
 and
you open it too quickly, it happens that the ginger beer overcooks. Just
the same with accessible gaming, if you take a wrong action like opening
 the
electric door in sod, if you deny to do something in a game like jumping
 too
late over a barrol, something happens accordingly or if you do something
good in a game like successfully killing a creature, something happens
 accordingly.
I like the word happen. I don't know why. In games certain things happen
 if
you do certain things. If you don't jump over a soer lid it happens that
 you
 fall down a soer.
Developers writes if functions, in other words if the player does this,
 this
 wil happen.
If I'm playing sod and I open a door and I'm hearing a syborg, its
 something
happening. It happens that the syborg appeared in that room.
So whether a game starts up when you press a hot key or open it via the

No, if you think of the way you need to get there is a right triangle but
the computer calculates the hypotenuse or the third side which is the

Using the Pythagorean Theorem the distance would be shorter than your

 Hi Nicol,
The game engine determines distances from you directly to the center of
 the
object or room subtracting half it's size.
This means if you could walk through walls it would be 27 feet.

Hi Søren,
This happens because I made the doors smaller than the door frames. So at
certain angles you can detect objects or rooms inside the doors.
And if one wall meets the corner of another wall there is a slight gap that
things could be detected through.
In the December 2005 public demo I had the penKnife in such a space so
people could detect it but not get it.
Being a developer, I could use the move through walls feature and grab the
penKnife.
smiles,
Phil

Re: [Audyssey] Fantacy game?

2007-03-28 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Niko,
Well, in the event you were flying on dragons or you needed a truly 3D
maze such as going up staircases etc you might want a 3D array to store
the entire game level. Though the math and coding involved is just
slightly more complex going 3D. With 2D some trig functions can serve
pretty well but as you add extra demmentions to the game the math skill
goes up some.
However, staircases can be faked. You can have a staircase item in your
array and when you cross it load a new level which represents a new
floor in 2D space rather than an actual complete 3D maze.
Some games do need 3D complexity if you have different levels with in
the same level of the game. Such as if you have to climb up or jump on
to a platform to get to where you want to go.

Niko C wrote:
Yes, I would like to se this game be first person. You are right that it
would be 2d because you just walk around in four directions but you might
also want to think about going upstairs or flying on dragons.
As for voice acting, I know not everyone could do a very good job but it
could be possible. Thee are several blind people who act on darker projects
(www.darkerprojects.com) and do a pretty good job. Darker projects if you
don't know is a place where they make audio drama. It is pretty good
actually. And there is nothing wrong with just one developper building the
game but if more than one developper could work on it that would be even
better. Like I said, I'd be more than willing to help out were needed
(especially audio). Don't be afraid to state the practical side of this. I'd
love to be able to make a good fantacy game but of course it takes more work
than people think. I am aware of this.
 Thanks.

You help catch the rats in order to get some info from the innkeeper. The
info you are seeking is the whereabouts of bad guys. You then go and get
those bad guys. You have to have had completed a few captures before even
getting to this point, so she had to have gotten into the Marshall's office

Hi Chris, thank you for your response as well.

Yes I am also somewhat baffled as to how she got to this point in the
first place, I think what has probably happened is she got in the
marshal's office before and has now forgotten about it. It may just not
be letting her get in there because of the rats is what I am beginning
 to think.

My understanding, is that you use the arrow keys, to point in the

from which the sound of the rat is comming from, I also believe the shop

 comes in to it somewhere.

With the aspect of not being able to get into the Sheriff's office, you
would not have got to the rats unless you had completed the earlier
missions. It sounds to me that your current mission is to clear the
 Rats, so
until they are gone, there is no point in going to the Sheriff's office.

 I hope this helps

Hey all, I know grizzly gulch has been discussed on here before, but a

friend of mine is currently playing it and is kind of stuck for a
couple of reasons, some of which may be technical in nature. I am
sorry if these questions are a bit vague, but it is difficult for me
to tell exactly what is going on as she is in Washington and I am in
California, and it's a bit hard to play the game by phone lol. She
does not seem able to get past the part where you catch the rats, and
I am not sure if the game is being weird or if she is just having
difficulty. So my question is, have any of you had difficulty with
this on an xp box? I seem to recall the game having some sound
 problems with newer machines/operating systems.

Her second problem I am pretty sure is just that she is not doing
something in the game. She has not been able to get into the
marshal's office to get missions. I seem to recall that you have to
do something or other to make this happen, she has thwarted many bank
robberies but this has done no good. Anyone recall what you have to
do here? I would install the thing and play it myself but I am still
running my secondary system with the crappy inbuilt soundcard that I
am almost positive would cause me problems. Any help on these matters

would really be appreciated. I've not played this all the way through

for several years now and I just don't recall these things.

 Thanks in advance.

 Tom

Depending on what type of person you were would determine what skills or

Re: [Audyssey] fantasy game

2007-03-28 Thread Niko C
It would be cool if it could be based on many different stories not just the
Lord of the Rings. Also, if it were based off of the Lord of the Rings, I'd
rather not use characters and follow the exact story line of the Lord of the
Rings. I'm not a big fan of that. I just ment based of the the story like
the world, type of creatures and culture. Not exact storyline.

Hi everyone a fantasy game would be fun. Maybe someone could do one based
 on Lord of the Rings.

Re: [Audyssey] Fantacy game?

2007-03-28 Thread Niko C
I like the 3d game idea. Make a 3-dimmentional array or how ever it's done
in other programming languages. You have your x y and z instead of x and y.
It would be a little more complecated but I'd really like to see a really
good game. A lot of people who code accessible games don't have a lot of
time on their hands and that is why good games can't be made but accessible
games that are being made right now are out of date. You don't see two many
side-scrollers or 2d games in the video game industry. I know that time is a
factor in this but nothing is impossible.

 Hi Niko,
Well, in the event you were flying on dragons or you needed a truly 3D
maze such as going up staircases etc you might want a 3D array to store
the entire game level.

Thee are several blind people who act on darker
 projects
(www.darkerprojects.com) and do a pretty good job. Darker projects if
 you
don't know is a place where they make audio drama. It is pretty good
actually. And there is nothing wrong with just one developper building
 the
game but if more than one developper could work on it that would be even
better. Like I said, I'd be more than willing to help out were needed
(especially audio). Don't be afraid to state the practical side of this.
 I'd
love to be able to make a good fantacy game but of course it takes more
 work
than people think. I am aware of this.
 Thanks.

Re: [Audyssey] Fantacy game?

2007-03-28 Thread Niko C
I agree. I would say the best game experience right now when it comes to
complexibility are muds because of all the things that you can do and choose
from. Also as for religion, I am definitely capible of making my own
religion because I've seen so many.

 Hi Niko,
Also I'd like to see this Fantacy game offer the ability to pick
different types of characters. weather I would be a Bard, Barbarian,
 Wizard, Ranger, etc...
Depending on what type of person you were would determine what skills or
abilities you would have just like in DND type games. That gives the
game totally different and perhaps endless replay value.

 Niko C wrote:
No. I'm looking for a more origional story line and more complecated.
 Also,
I think there should be things included like dragons and stuff and long
hikes through the wild where you have to learn how to keep warm and dry
 and
 stay safe from enemies.

Re: [Audyssey] Montezuma's Revenge News

2007-03-28 Thread jason
Hello everyone it's Jason writing about this matter.
Personally I am a fan of the old stuff even though, I am 25 years old but I
like the new and old stuff. I am a fan of the 50's 60's 70's music and old
games as well. But I also listen to the new stuff that is out today as
well.
I am also a fan of the old time radio and sports games that Gary Widington
puts up on his sight. sometimes I listen to old movies and old classic
games and I wish I could go back in time to relive these events as well. and
I also wish some times the old days would come back again because this world
can be cruel at times and even then. The point is who cares in my opinion
what kind of game it is just be appriciative of what the gaming developers
have to put in for their time of developing the game. Remember don't take
everything for granted.

 Hi Michael,
I respect your opinions, but I do have some trouble understanding why
just because a game is old to sighted people why does it have to be old
and boring to many blind users that never had a first chance to play?
This kind of reminds me of my college dorm mates first reaction when
they discovered I had a large stash of 80's, 70's, and 80's rock bands
in my cd case, and their first responce was, Man, that is as old as
dirt. That stuff is crap. Why don't you stop living in a time warp, and
listen to snoop Dog, Scar Face, etc?.
My answer then is the same as today. Just because something is old
doesn't make it bad. Peoples taistes may change, interest might change,
but the workmanship that whent into that song or game hasn't changed. In
it's day back in 1984 Montezuma's Revenge was hugely popular just like
the Betals, Beach boys, Rolling Stones, etc were back in the 1960's.
Just because a few years have gone by I don't think people have stopped
listening to the Betals or stopped playing Montezuma's Revenge. In fact
the only reason they aren't popular any more is a new generation has
sprang up to replace them, and they have different interests than the
old generation that grew up with Monty or the Betals.
Keep in mind the entire intent of remaking Montezuma's revenge is to
capture the original game in all it's glory in accessible format. If I
do as you say and put in allot of 21st century influences then the game
 is no longer Montezuma's Revenge.
Let's think of it this way. Is there a sighted game you really want to
play like Mortal Combat, Doom III, Stark Trek Elite Force, Star Wars
Empire at War, etc? Ok, say I were making that game, a game you wanted
to play because it was your favorite game and it wasn't accessible. How
many of my own changes would you want me to make in the game? Take out a
special game level that was in that game, add levels that aren't there,
drop out certain bonus items, etc...

Re: [Audyssey] Things to know when you order Sarah

2007-03-28 Thread jason
Hi, All this message is for Soron. When you have gotten that message, you
should of immediatlly called your creditcard company or your bank instead of
second guessing yourself if the card works usually Creditcard companies
rarely make mistakes, but it can happen just at times when you need it the
most, just trying to help you so you don't end up with bad credit.

That is a question for your bank. Not for the list and not for Draconis
Entertainment. Any merchant processing a credit card will get one of two
answers. Approve or Decline. That is it. If they get an approve message,
they will also get an approval code and process the order. If they get a
decline, they get no further information because it can be declined for many
reasons. A decline does not mean you are a bad person, it does not mean you
don't have the money. A decline is just that, a decline. Maybe your bank is
having a bad day.

Hi.

I don't understand why my visa-card doesn't work in the shop. I'm always
getting the following message:
Your credit card was declined. Please try another card or contact your bank
for more info.

I'm sure my credit card works.

I have tried to ordre the game directly from the game and sended my ordre in
a mail to Phil, but he said you haven't set up a vendor shopping card so he
can complete the ordre. It could be nice if you could set up the vendor
shopping card to Phil so I can use my credit card.

If other have successfully ordered some games in Draconiss shop useing their
