You have to turn on compatibility mode in the options menu to get anything
to show up in smugglers4.

 Hi.

I was wondering if anyone had tried the update 1.0H for smugglers 4 which
makes the sensor screen and crew combat screen accessible. The sensor
screen is great, but I'm having trouble with crew combat, I'm not sure if
this is an access issue, or just a me being thick issue, so if anyone
 else
has tried it, please let me know.

You can get it here: http://www.nielsbauergames.com/updates.html

Oh btw, you'll have to have the full version of the game to play the crew
combat, sinse you need to buy a corvet class ship to engage in crew
combat. Stil, if you've got the demo version, you might find the sensor
 screen rather fun.

 Beware the Grue!

Re: [Audyssey] A question about packing sounds in one file

2008-09-15 Thread Jim Kitchen
Hi Thomas,

Yes, I would think so. I have always just used individual sound files. Not
only the resources but all of the work that it sounds like it would take to
have DirectX or whatever know where each part started and stopped. But hey
Kevin asked, so I told him of one way that I know of to combine wave files.
For mp3 files you can just use the /b switch with the copy command and just
copy them together.

We finally got full power back on. Pretty strange that the battery powered
lights and alarm were going off. They usually run out of juice after an hour
or two. They must have been getting just enough electricity to keep them
running for like 14 hours.

- Original Message -
Hi Jim,
That is a resource intensive way of loading and playing sound effects in
a game that might have hundreds of sound effects. In a sense you would
have to have several sound buffers load that sound and then use start
and stop points to play the specific sound you wanted. That is a fairly
memory and processor intensive way of handling audio playback in a game.
Cheers.

Jim Kitchen wrote:
 Hi Kevin,

In Gold Wave press control a to select the entire wave file then control c to
copy it to the buffer. Now open the next wave file and paste in the one that
you copied to the buffer. That is press control p. Keep doing this until
you have them all in one large wave file.

[Audyssey] Smugglers 4 Is this really playable?

2008-09-15 Thread Che
  Hi all,
I purchased Smugglers 4 this afternoon, as I like to support any mainstream
developer that is willing to include features to make their games more
accessible.
But so far, this is a joke I must say. Either that, or I am seriously missing
something here.
I understand this game wasn't designed with the blind in mind, so I figured
I'd have to use the jaws cursor a good bit, I have no problem with that, but I
haven't even done the first part of the tutorial and I am showing signs of
carpel tunnel syndrome here.
When the tutorial says the planet you need to go to has been marked for you
for example, I arrow all over the place trying to find said planet to no avail,
so here I am stuck with no planet to go.
You folks that are playing this game, is this thing actually fairly smooth to
play with a screenreader, or should I just go back to playing Madden 09 on my
Wii and forget about it if I am not willing to arrow around dozens of times to
get one thing done? I had thoughts of creating scripts for this if it turned
out to be playable, but right now I don't see that as a possibility.
Someone please tell me I am missing something here, because the game sounds
really cool.
and yes, I have turned on compatibility mode, (thanks ShadowDragon), and I
have looked at the relevant parts of the manual, even though it is in the
dreaded .pdf format.

I've had some luck, and can do it. I use hot spot clicker to simulate some
of my clicks, however, I've never actually done the tutorial.

Also, if you were to have created scripts, I'd help in any way I could!
Good game, a pain indeed to click around a lot. That and I'm tired of
killing over and over and over and over and over and over to try to get the

Yes that is right. You need to turn accessibility mode on in the options
menu. Also as stated make sure you download the updates if any are out
there. I am not sure if he builds in the patches as he develops them into

Re: [Audyssey] Smugglers 4 Is this really playable?

2008-09-15 Thread Michael Feir
Hi Che. The accessible mode is still a work in progress. You should explain
your troubles to the developer so he knows what to work on. I think you're
having the same problem as I am where locations seem to disappear off the
map just when you need to go to them. It certainly isn't as easy as
Smugglers3. That's for certain. Still, when the accessible mode is all done,
Smugglers4 is definitely going to be a far supperior game. We just have to
be patient and vocal about what does and doesn't work for us.

Hi Che. The accessible mode is still a work in progress. You should
 explain
your troubles to the developer so he knows what to work on. I think you're
having the same problem as I am where locations seem to disappear off the
map just when you need to go to them. It certainly isn't as easy as
Smugglers3. That's for certain. Still, when the accessible mode is all
 done,
Smugglers4 is definitely going to be a far supperior game. We just have to
be patient and vocal about what does and doesn't work for us.

Subject: [Audyssey] Smugglers 4 Is this really playable?

  Hi all,
I purchased Smugglers 4 this afternoon, as I like to support any
mainstream developer that is willing to include features to make their
 games more accessible.
But so far, this is a joke I must say. Either that, or I am seriously
 missing something here.
I understand this game wasn't designed with the blind in mind, so I
figured I'd have to use the jaws cursor a good bit, I have no problem
 with
that, but I haven't even done the first part of the tutorial and I am
showing signs of carpel tunnel syndrome here.
When the tutorial says the planet you need to go to has been marked for
you for example, I arrow all over the place trying to find said planet to
no avail, so here I am stuck with no planet to go.
You folks that are playing this game, is this thing actually fairly
smooth to play with a screenreader, or should I just go back to playing
Madden 09 on my Wii and forget about it if I am not willing to arrow
around dozens of times to get one thing done? I had thoughts of creating
scripts for this if it turned out to be playable, but right now I don't
 see that as a possibility.
Someone please tell me I am missing something here, because the game
 sounds really cool.
and yes, I have turned on compatibility mode, (thanks ShadowDragon), and
I have looked at the relevant parts of the manual, even though it is in
 the dreaded .pdf format.
Signing out from near Alpha Centauri.
