Hello all,

I re-purchased Super liam over 24 hours ago yesterday, and still have not
gotten a response. Where should I go to fix this problem? Note that I sent

[Audyssey] Anyone play core exiles?

2009-10-13 Thread dark
Hi.

I've just started on core exiles from http://www.core-exiles.com/

though it's stil got a lot of in game images, I've found it displays in a
better way with Ie 8 than 7, and making liberal use of Hal's find function can
be helpful.

It looks fun thus far, I've finished all the starter missions and the starting
combat ones, and am just deciding where to go next and what to do. I like the
various choice for things in the game, and the way there's more to do than just
muck about with economics, those npc missions are travel options are
certainly my thing.

I've also found people are pretty decent on the forums as far as answering
questions etc goes.

I like thus far, I just hope there is enough to do in the rest of the game
before things become too crunch orientated.

Is anyone else playing currently? I'm Darkempathy on there if anyone wants to
look me up.

Beware the Grue!

[Audyssey] Chopper Challenge: this is getting On My Nerves!

2009-10-13 Thread Louise Keel
Hi, everyone.

I've recently downloaded a free game I hadn't played before called Chopper
Challenge, from ex-xite interactive. If anyone's unfamiliar with it, it's a
space invader's type game whereby you shoot at a copter man type thing, and
avoid his bombs. The object of the game is to stay alive for ten minutes, and
rack up as many points as possible, on three difficulty levels. You have
health points, you start with 100, and if you get hit by a bomb, these decrease
to the point that if you get zero, the copter man successfully marks your card
and blows you to blazes! Now it should follow that, if you have a good number
of health points, a good number of points, and are still alive at the end of
ten minutes, Copter man should bite the dust. Except he often doesn't, he
destroys you, for what reason I cannot fathom! Also, it will sometimes happen
during the game, that, though I have plenty of health points, Copter man will
suddenly take it into his head to end things and destroy me.

Now, am I missing something here, I've read through the readme, and can't find
any reason for this to happen. Because if I'm not missing something, I'm here
to tell you, this is getting on my last nerve! Is anyone else having this kind
of problem with this game? If the person who wrote it is reading this, perhaps
you could enlighten me as to why this happens. It is, in the main, a great
game, or I'd have just said to heck with it, buggy game, and consigned it to
the recycling bin in the sky, but I like the game, and would like to know why
this is happening, and if it's fixable. Thanks very much for any help anyone
can give me.

Best to all my fellow gamers.

Lulu Keel.
Now faith, hope, love abide, these three. But the greatest of these is love.

perhaps you're going over the miss limit? each time you miss there is a
special number that increases, you can chekc it with the m key. each
difficulty has its own miss limit, if you miss more than that number you're
out of the game early.

It's a brouser based game. Actually it's a bit like an online multiplayer
version of smugglers, where each player has a ship.

You can go on missions given to you by npcs, mine ore, carry cargo or
passengers, make items, own a factory or various other things.

Of course, it's the npc missions that interested me personally.

the game uses many images, and indeed has a graphical map which is extremely
unuseable. The images are being labeled however, and there is a way around
the graphical map using the in built route planner function.

It's free to play, so anyone who's interested is welcome to try it out.

[Audyssey] Crysis averted

2009-10-13 Thread dark
Hi.

Well, in te end things worked out alright. with the help of my software
engineer friend, I was able to do as I thought, and create a new admin account
then delete the corrupted one.

It's saved me a lot of hastle, but there are some very strange things. For
instance, some (though not all), of my program shortcuts have vanished. The
programs are stil there, and in the cases where they had a deffinite exe
file they're not installed, but I'm having to go and physically recreate
program groups for them.

then, while Hal is working, the orphius synthesiser isn't! it's stil installed,
but the program shortcuts have utterly vanished, and it's not appearing in the
compatible synths list for Hal whatsoever. I'm having to use Realspeak daniel
at the moment.

I'm going to contact dolphin and see if I can either redownload orphius, or if
I need to reinstall Hal to get it back.

All very weerd!

Of couse, though outlook express reappeared with my new account, my mail
addresses haven't. I've been able to resetup my Dark address, --- but sinse my
private mail address has a password set by bt, I'll need to ring them and give
them a good yelling at to fix it, and don't get me started on what I'll
need to do with the university It service to restore my student address.

while it's a pain, I'm just glad i'm not having to completely reinstall
everything!

Thanks for everyone's help.

Beware the grue!

perhaps you're going over the miss limit? each time you miss there is a
special number that increases, you can chekc it with the m key. each
difficulty has its own miss limit, if you miss more than that number
you're out of the game early.

Subject: [Audyssey] Chopper Challenge: this is getting On My Nerves!

Hi, everyone.

I've recently downloaded a free game I hadn't played before called
Chopper Challenge, from ex-xite interactive. If anyone's unfamiliar with
it, it's a space invader's type game whereby you shoot at a copter man
type thing, and avoid his bombs. The object of the game is to stay alive
for ten minutes, and rack up as many points as possible, on three
difficulty levels. You have health points, you start with 100, and if
you get hit by a bomb, these decrease to the point that if you get zero,
the copter man successfully marks your card and blows you to blazes! Now
it should follow that, if you have a good number of health points, a good
number of points, and are still alive at the end of ten minutes, Copter
man should bite the dust. Except he often doesn't, he destroys you, for
what reason I cannot fathom! Also, it will sometimes happen during the
game, that, though I have plenty of health points, Copter man will
suddenly take it into his head to end things and destroy me.

Now, am I missing something here, I've read through the readme, and can't
find any reason for this to happen. Because if I'm not missing something,
I'm here to tell you, this is getting on my last nerve! Is anyone else
having this kind of problem with this game? If the person who wrote it is
reading this, perhaps you could enlighten me as to why this happens. It
is, in the main, a great game, or I'd have just said to heck with it,
buggy game, and consigned it to the recycling bin in the sky, but I like
the game, and would like to know why this is happening, and if it's
fixable. Thanks very much for any help anyone can give me.

Best to all my fellow gamers.

Lulu Keel.

Re: [Audyssey] Crisis averted

2009-10-13 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Dark,
Glad to see you have the problem under control. As for the missing icons
there really isn't anything strange about that really. Some programs
install icons to your local user account's start menu folder rather
than globally to the default start menu folder. The end result is if you
create a new account the icons come up missing. The easiest way to fix
that little problem is to copy those icons from the local start menu
folder to the default all users start menu folder. Once you do that it
doesn't matter if you have 1 or 100 user accounts they all have access
to the icons.
As it happens you aren't the only one that has user account woes in this
area. Unlike Linux developers that always assumes a multiuser
environment far too many Windows developers program software for a
single user environment. For those of us who run Windows in a multiuser
environment it gets to be a pain, because there really isn't any excuse
to program software for a single user environment. With the release of
Vista and Windows 7 Microsoft beginning to kick developers in the butt,
and letting them get use to the idea of programming for a multiuser
environment. The only problem is it is hard to break developers of bad
habbits formed ages ago.

Smile.

Some questions for you in order to get you started playing again:

What screen reader do you use? If it is JAWS, I can send you a free chess
program that you can play against, as well as connect to the Internet to
play against others, although I have not tried this feature out as of yet.

Do you have an adapted chess set for blind people to use, rather than having

to use speech to explore a chess board during the game?

I can also help you, probably one on one, as to which pieces move where and
the basic rules of the game. Or, there is a totally free correspondence
course, either on audio cassettes or in braille, available from the Hadley
School for the Blind. All course materials are yours to keep after you
complete the course, including a very nice adapted chess set.

 Hi folks,

I'm trying to get bakc in to playing chess after being away from it for
quite some time. Is there somewhere I can download a very, very basic
 chess
manual or instructions. I'm not looking for fancy strategies at this
 point,
just something in plain English that I can quickly use to remind myself of
basic chess moves, which pieces can move which ways, etc.

Also, is there anywhere, and with any program preferably free or an
 extremly
low cost, that a totally blind person can play chess online with others?

 Thanks.

Core exiles actually has quite a lot to distinguish it from the standard

player created items and (of personal interest to me), the npc missions.

As I said, it's most like a multiplayer online version of smugglers.

It's a brouser based game. Actually it's a bit like an online multiplayer
version of smugglers, where each player has a ship.

You can go on missions given to you by npcs, mine ore, carry cargo or
passengers, make items, own a factory or various other things.

Of course, it's the npc missions that interested me personally.

the game uses many images, and indeed has a graphical map which is
extremely unuseable. The images are being labeled however, and there is a
way around the graphical map using the in built route planner function.

It's free to play, so anyone who's interested is welcome to try it out.

Hi.

I've just started on core exiles from http://www.core-exiles.com/

though it's stil got a lot of in game images, I've found it displays in
a better way with Ie 8 than 7, and making liberal use of Hal's find
function can be helpful.

It looks fun thus far, I've finished all the starter missions and the
starting combat ones, and am just deciding where to go next and what to
do. I like the various choice for things in the game, and the way
there's more to do than just muck about with economics, those npc
missions are travel options are certainly my thing.

I've also found people are pretty decent on the forums as far as
answering questions etc goes.

I like thus far, I just hope there is enough to do in the rest of
the game before things become too crunch orientated.

Is anyone else playing currently? I'm Darkempathy on there if anyone

Re: [Audyssey] Crisis averted

2009-10-13 Thread dark
Ironically Tom, all my audio games seem to have survived the process
unscathed. It's my text adventure and none audio games which haven't faired
so well, though sinse many (though by no means all), of those
originally came as Zip folders which I personally then created program
groups for it's understandable, - though even the ones which installed
Exe files have had this problem for some odd reason.

It just shows that obviously all the Audiogame dev's had their heads screwed
on regarding user accounts.

About multi-user environments in general, i personally would give a lot to
have precisely the opposite option.

I've always used my own computers myself, and been the only person doing so.
In fact other than buisnesses or institutional networks I'd always advocate
one person use their own computer if at all possible sinse that way they get
most familiar with things (my mum, who is a novice computer user, and my
brother who is very advance had extreme problems in this manner when they
attempted to share a desktop using multiple accounts).

My mum as a consequence has no idea of basic file structure or where things
are stored, or even how to open documents without directly using ms
word.

Some of my weerder dosbox style programs i think I'm going to have to
reinstall rather than playing hunt the run file, though this is
certainly less of a pest than it might have been.

I'm most impressed with Hal, which seems to be able to run independently of
all user account shinanigans, despite the orphius issue.

I even managed to run it in default windows profile.

Beware the grue!

Hi Dark,
Glad to see you have the problem under control. As for the missing icons
there really isn't anything strange about that really. Some programs
install icons to your local user account's start menu folder rather than
globally to the default start menu folder. The end result is if you create
a new account the icons come up missing. The easiest way to fix that
little problem is to copy those icons from the local start menu folder to
the default all users start menu folder. Once you do that it doesn't
matter if you have 1 or 100 user accounts they all have access to the
icons.
As it happens you aren't the only one that has user account woes in this
area. Unlike Linux developers that always assumes a multiuser environment
far too many Windows developers program software for a single user
environment. For those of us who run Windows in a multiuser environment it
gets to be a pain, because there really isn't any excuse to program
software for a single user environment. With the release of Vista and
Windows 7 Microsoft beginning to kick developers in the butt, and letting
them get use to the idea of programming for a multiuser environment. The
only problem is it is hard to break developers of bad habbits formed ages
ago.

Smile.

Re: [Audyssey] Anyone play core exiles?

2009-10-13 Thread dark

How big is the galaxy? Big!

There are five galaxies and I believe about 150 star systems with 700 odd
planets, I could be wrong, but all the exact numbers are on the front
page.

I don't believe you can own more than one ship, but you certainly can own
your own factory.

Things are fairly player driven sinse there are items it's impossible to buy
from npcs, and you need to either buy schematics and build them yourself, or
buy them on the player marke, I also believe new schematis may be foujnd by
player research but I'm not certaint. The same goes for the various in game
resources such as mined and refigned ores or factory goods.

You can even build your own settlement, and contract npc shops to come and
work there, which you can then collect tax from.

I'm not sure what you mean by player created missions. Certainly, players
who run factories or setlements or who craft items will want resources, and
may well offer a contract for them.

In terms of combat or hawlage missions, they seem to be npc run, though I
believe there are mlti-player rades on large targits, though I'm not sure
how they work.

To be perfectly honest, there's a lot more to the game than is easily
explainable.

Your best off just trying it out sinse it's absolutely free to play.
