The systems I have now run xp and the coppies I have are lagit.
when the next system fails,

My laptop is an oem model, so there may be a chance I will be using the vista

now and then. The only thing that is lagging behind is the processor
speed. I can buy just a motherboard, processor, and a big stick of mem,
like top of the line, for $600, and have a super machine.
I have like a 100 GB drive. I don't need anything larger. All I need is
speed and mem.

laptops have specialised components, they are also smaller.
My system is probably worth more than the origional price as I have upgraded it
with external modules over the years.
The nice thing is when this system dies I still have external modules to use.

You mean, why do laptops cost more then?

Because their components are smaller and you pay for convenience.

[Audyssey] Quake server

2006-12-20 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi All, I should have posted this
before. smile *doing the blonde thing* lol!

   For those who might be having trouble installing / running Jedi Quake;
if you already have AQ installed, you can enter the console and type:

connect tbrn.net and then press enter, and it will connect you to a Quake
server running Jedi Quake. Actually, there are a couple of small updates
but it's essentially JQ.

You may find you're downloading several files, which may take a bit, but be
patient and the game will come up when they're all downloaded...

OH, also, if you log on to the server, you'll need to have a player
name, which is other than the default player so if you need to change
your player name, you can do so by entering the console and typing:

name (your fav name)

where (your fav name) is the name you'd like, without the parentheses,
and then press enter.

   Hope y'all have fun!...

Smiles,

Cara

Re: [Audyssey] Toshebas and gaming was Judgement Day

2006-12-20 Thread Cara Quinn
Everett, well that seems to be an issue with a lot of others here as
well, which I'll clear up soon. A new copy of the manual with working
links may already be written, but I need to get in touch with the person
who did it so it may take me a few days. Once I locate them, I'll post the
manual on my ftp site, and that way the sounds will be a whole lot easier
to figure out.

You should have as much functionality as anyone else. The only diff
between the shareware Quake and the standard release is that the standard
release has more maps.

As it is now, you can visit:

http://tbrn.net/modgirl

and download either one of the two AQ installs from the AQ folder.

Once you have it installed, you can go into your Audio Quake folder, and
then into your id1 folder, and finally into your sounds folder, and there
you will find several folders containing sounds which you can play. their
names should be pretty self explanatory so yu can get acquainted with some
of the sounds for now.

After that, see my last post, about connecting to a server running JQ
unless you'd like to download the latest release which is on the same ftp
site, and install it yourself. It's up to you...

Anyway, hope this helps, and will let the list know when I've posted the
new manual...

Smiles,

Cara

 Hi Dark,
I don't know of any official list of them, but here are a couple more I
use to add to the list I already gave. Windows-f brings up the Windows
find dialog, and Windows-h brings up the Windows help system. Oh yeah,
and Windows-b will drop you right on the system tray no matter where you
 are.
The Windows key shortcuts are super invaluable when you learn them you
wonder how you did without. Why got to start and run when Windows-r from
anywhere will take you there. Why go tot the start menu to run find when
Windows-f from anywhere will open the dialog to run the find. If you
want to land square on your taskbar no matter where you are Windows-tab
and you are instantly taken there.
BTW. I might add I amd doing this using Windows XP SP2. If you are using
something else besides XP you will have to check and see if your Windows
version supports those keys. I know some of them have been around since
 95/98, and some are newer.

[Audyssey] sryth again

2006-12-20 Thread moonsinger
Guess what? I won the championship and got the hale blade at 46 mr. Now I
added my mr to 47 then equipped the blade so now it's 51 with stamina of 54.
That was awesome!! But I thought I'd get more mr I thought it was 8?
Also, can't beat gralgerack. Barely beat the skeletons then the warriors
trounced me. They won't give me time to equip some other weapon. What can
I do?
Also, a general question:
I aquired the skill of bashing hoping it'd improve my mr if I raised it up
some levels. So far this hasn't worked. Why?
Also, at 51 mr are there any adventures I can conqueer if gralgerak's tomb
isn't attainable yet? Or any methodologies to beat his tomb? I beat it
with another charecter using fortification but this one, Xora doesn't have
that skill and my powers are 21 each on distruction telekenesis and
illusion. They fizzle a lot.
This game is really truly great.
Thanks for all your help. Also, what do you think about the new interface?
I kinda miss the go north to trithic instead of this travel thingy. It's
confusing.
Peace out and have a great morning!

find dialog, and Windows-h brings up the Windows help system. Oh yeah,
and Windows-b will drop you right on the system tray no matter where you
I know some of them have been around since
 95/98, and some are newer.

thanks. I do play several instruments and sing fairly seriously which is
probably why I personally find the boppit esque games rather easy.

In fairness though there are plenty of things I'm absolutely appauling at!
For example on just about every single racing game I've ever played you

call me Mr. Demolition, because that's what I do both to my car and the

sounds cool! methinks i'll have to check that out.

My mum was royally annoyed after she gleefully presented me with a
 boppit,
for me to take to get the max 250 score on it within a half hour train
 journey.

Last Christmas she attempted to (in her words), Occupy my mind with a
boppit extreme, only to have me gain a score of over 800 on beat botp
 and
over 600 on vox bop in the first day, (after that point I got slightly
board, but I probably ought to find out at some point if the thing conks
 out
when you get to a thousand).

anyway the upshot of all this is that I'd love an actually challenging
 puzle
game for those long train journeys (presumably it takes headphones),
 when
 I
 don't have my computer handy.

 Hi,
Nemesis Factor is a puzzle game. It is a hand-held game, where you
 must
complete up to 100 puzzles to complete it. Puzzles can involve
 pressing
the five colored buttons in a certain order, combinations, covering
 or
uncovering a light sensor, twisting and turning the device, etc.
 Every
puzzle is accessible, and it is a lot of fun.

ok if you go to the cathedral of silver rain and get 3 blessings from the
priests, then before you attempt the gralgarak adventure, unequip any weapon

weapon, this will fool the goblins that you are fighting unarmed.
you may have to use a blessing of protection with the second lot of goblins,

 I
added my mr to 47 then equipped the blade so now it's 51 with stamina of
 54.
That was awesome!! But I thought I'd get more mr I thought it was 8?
Also, can't beat gralgerack. Barely beat the skeletons then the warriors
trounced me. They won't give me time to equip some other weapon. What
 can
Also, what do you think about the new

[Audyssey] Intro and STFC

2006-12-20 Thread Mark Pemberton
Hi all, I am Mark and have just joined the list. The targeting in stfc is
always 100% accurate. I remember in trek2 you could mis at greater distances
and better still, be missed. Also what about your ships fighting ability gets
better after each engagement always insuring you survive of course! I really
like the idea of a battle hardened ship and crew bouncing a rooky enemy.

Re: [Audyssey] sryth again

2006-12-20 Thread Brandon Cole
Hi,

Well, the thing about Gralgorack's tomb is that it scales to your melee.
It's meant to be that difficult. However, I can suggest that you use
blessings of protection during the last two battles, as it will help you
immensely. That combined with the Hail Blade's healing ability will
certainly win you that fight. As for other adventures, Sleepless Night is a
good one to try, as you'll get a ring that adds 3 more to your melee at the
end. To answer your question about bashing, the weaponry subskills influence
how well you use certain weapons. So if you wanted Bashing to raise your
melee, you would have to be using a bashing weapon of equal or greater value
than the slashing weapon you're using now. I am very tempted to ask, though,
do you have the skill of weaponry slashing? If not, it would be a major help
to you as your melee would increase for every ten levels of it you had while
you were using a weapon such as the hail blade. I hope all this nonsense
helps some. Good luck.
Sincerely,
Brandon

I aquired the skill of bashing hoping it'd improve my mr if I raised it up

Re: [Audyssey] sryth again

2006-12-20 Thread Ron Schamerhorn
Hi Chris

I too recently obtained the Hail Blade and my MR was only raised 4, part
of the reason is depending on the weapon you were using previously. I had
the blade of the Fox [+4] so you would need to look at your MR without a
sword. My mr is presently 58 [that's some help from training and equipment
not necessarily weapons].
As for quests, which ones have you already completed? The Haunting in
Durnsig is fairly easy, the mirc, and also Stoneback Hill.
I tried the same thing with weapon subskills and have had the same
result, though I figured it'd work out sucks when you need 512 to get
one level which does nothing in the big scheme of things!
BTW Is there any way of knowing when the hail blade is going to work it's
magic? Or the Nimble boots for that matter?

Hi All, I should have posted this
before. smile *doing the blonde thing* lol!

   For those who might be having trouble installing / running Jedi Quake;
if you already have AQ installed, you can enter the console and type:

connect tbrn.net and then press enter, and it will connect you to a Quake
server running Jedi Quake. Actually, there are a couple of small updates
 but it's essentially JQ.

You may find you're downloading several files, which may take a bit, but
 be
patient and the game will come up when they're all downloaded...

 Smiles,

 Cara

Re: [Audyssey] Racing points

2006-12-20 Thread Che
Ok,thanks Thomas that sounds doable. Might modify that slightly by
dividing everything by ten and rounding the 5's up.
The tricky point here is how to manage a circuit with online racing, when
some folks won't be able to join races due to time zone differences and
schedule conflicts.
I am thinking of running qualifiers, then having a set date for the main
race, with two races spaced 12 hours apart, then I would have the code merge
the two races best times for the points.
This online play is tricky business, but makes playing the game a lot more
fun as it is always more enjoyable to beat other humans in my opinion.
  Later taters,
  Che

Re: [Audyssey] Quake server

2006-12-20 Thread Cara Quinn
   Hi Jamie;

bind a key of your choice to impulse 63 and then if you like, another to
impulse 64.

impulse 63 activates / swings the lightsaber and impulse 64 turns it
off. It will draw attention to you when it's turned on, as other players /
bots can hear it.

To bind keys from within the game, open the console, and type the following:

bind a impulse 63
bind b impulse 64

I used a and b for the keys but you would obviously use which ever keys you
like. Also, remember to press enter after each of the above lines.

If you want your bindings to always be the same each time you play, then
you can also bind keys from outside the game, by opening config.cfg in your
id1 folder and adding the above lines at the end of the file in your fav
text editor. NOTE: when you add these lines like this, make sure the
impulses have quotes around them, as in:

bind a impulse 63

You need to add quotes when placing lines like these in cfg files...

If you find that your new bindings don't work, open your autoexec.cfg
file, also in your id1 folder and again, use your fav editor to search it
to see if the keys are already being used for something. If they are, and
you'd rather not preserve them, you can either edit this file to reflect
what you'd like the keys to do, or remove the bindings and add them as
above in config. To remove them, you can either add a double slash at the
beginning of each line that you don't want, as in:

// bind a do something I don't want anymore

or delete the line.

Please remember to always back up each file before you make any changes
to it though...

   Anyway, hope this helps!...

Smiles,

Cara

Well smile I just installed the JD demo and
tried all three levels. Very, very nice! woohoo! I used the machine gun
and had no enemies land! Way fun!

How does one know where each level begins and ends? I simply played
until it told me the demo was over... The demo plays the first five
  levels, yes?...
-Not sure how to distinguish between them...

Anyway, Liam, a couple of tech questions; out of curiosity, which
installer did you use? I like it a lot! It has a very clean interface
and
I like the ability to easily read the docs from within the install
program...
Secondly, what language did you code this in, if you don't mind my
  asking?...

Anyway, great job! really really fun!... smile

Will visit the site to check out pricing and such...

Anyway, thanks for all of your effort!!! The game rocks!...

Hmmm, I'm probably getting my boppit versions mixed up.

As well as the standard boppit, last christmas my mum bought me a Boppit
version that goes over 250. That version only has Boppit, twist it and
 pull
it, but can have different voices and go over 250 - up to 800 as I
 said.

Maybe that's the boppit 2, or the boppit 2000 or something, I'm afraid I'm
 terrible at remembering version numbers.

 Sorry about the confusion.

sounds cool! methinks i'll have to check that out.

   Hi Jamie;

bind a key of your choice to impulse 63 and then if you like, another to
 impulse 64.

impulse 63 activates / swings the lightsaber and impulse 64 turns it
off. It will draw attention to you when it's turned on, as other players
 /
 bots can hear it.

To bind keys from within the game, open the console, and type the
 following:

 bind a impulse 63
 bind b impulse 64

I used a and b for the keys but you would obviously use which ever keys
 you
like. Also, remember to press enter after each of the above lines.

If you want your bindings to always be the same each time you play, then
you can also bind keys from outside the game, by opening config.cfg in
 your
id1 folder and adding the above lines at the end of the file in your fav
text editor.

 // bind a do something I don't want anymore

 or delete the line.

Please remember to always back up each file before you make any changes
 to it though...

   Anyway, hope this helps!...

 Smiles,

 Cara

Hi All, I should have posted this
before. smile *doing the blonde thing* lol!

For those who might be having trouble installing / running Jedi
  Quake;
if you already have AQ installed, you can enter the console and type:

connect tbrn.net and then press enter, and it will connect you to a
  Quake
server running Jedi Quake. Actually, there are a couple of small
  updates
  but it's essentially JQ.

You may find you're downloading several files, which may take a bit,
  but
  be
patient and the game will come up when they're all downloaded...

OH, also, if you log on to the server, you'll need to have a player
name, which is other than the default player so if you need to change
your player name, you can do so by entering the console and typing:

  name (your fav name)

where (your fav name) is the name you'd like, without the
  parentheses,
  and then press enter.

Hope y'all have fun!...

  Smiles,

ok if you go to the cathedral of silver rain and get 3 blessings from
  the
priests, then before you attempt the gralgarak adventure, unequip any
  weapon
you are carrying, just before you hit the begin combat button, equip a
weapon, this will fool the goblins that you are fighting unarmed.
you may have to use a blessing of protection with the second lot of

you will definitely have to use them against gralgarak.

 Hi Chris

I too recently obtained the Hail Blade and my MR was only raised 4, part
of the reason is depending on the weapon you were using previously. I had
the blade of the Fox [+4] so you would need to look at your MR without a
sword. My mr is presently 58 [that's some help from training and
 equipment
 not necessarily weapons].

So that's why it's so darned hard. Gosh, that explains things.
And I go tothe cathedral of silver rain to get the blessings.
Will use them definately.
I do have maylay slashing and glad I do.
Man you need tons of exp in order to get it past level 41. *grins*
Nothing good without a challenge.
How much does a blessing cost?
Thanks a ton.
I figure if I beat the tomb I'll have better equipment and can thin hit
graldock and continue on my merry way. I want to sell all this armor and
want good prices. That's why I am making dagger's spire the goal so I can
finally sell my junk I keep carting around (leather boots, iron helms etc.

As for other adventures, Sleepless Night is
 a
good one to try, as you'll get a ring that adds 3 more to your melee at
 the
end. To answer your question about bashing, the weaponry subskills
 influence
how well you use certain weapons. So if you wanted Bashing to raise your
melee, you would have to be using a bashing weapon of equal or greater
 value
than the slashing weapon you're using now. I am very tempted to ask,
 though,
do you have the skill of weaponry slashing? If not, it would be a major
 help
to you as your melee would increase for every ten levels of it you had
 while
you were using a weapon such as the hail blade. I hope all this nonsense
 helps some. Good luck.
 Sincerely,
 Brandon

[Audyssey] Killer web based game for free

2006-12-20 Thread Che
  Hi gang,
Based on Liam's suggestion, I have been playing Popomundo the last couple
of weeks.
I have played a few web based games, but this one is by far the best.
A lot of people might have been put off thinking it is just another music
band management game, and it can certainly cover that base well, but it is a
whole lot more.
Lots of folks play that don't even mess with the music stuff, playing as
lawyers, police officers, doctors, and all sorts of stuff.
There are always lots of people on there to interact with, and you really
get the sense you are developing a character for the long term.
It takes a while to get going, just as in real life, but it is a very
rewarding game, and you will meet all sorts of people from around the world
there.
I made contact with a blind guy in Italy who is also a blind programmer,
and we discuss all sorts of things over email now, plus our characters in
the game can now help each other out.
Anyhow, if you like role playing or character development in the least, I
highly reccomend you check this one out.
  The website is
  www.popomundo.com
If you sign up, send me a message, my character name in the game is Gerry
Johnston, just go to the community link and do a search for my name.
Also, be sure and check out the newbie forum in the game, tons of good
advice there, and they have the most accessible forum system I have ever
seen.
Have fun, and let us know on the list how you like it.
  Che

The following link has commands relative to 95, 98, and ME but work for XP
also:

I found this nifty keyboard command along with others. check it out.

SHIFT+Windows Logo+M: Undo minimize all

For keyboard commands for XP only check out

I found the answer for my query. It is:

Lock your computer if you are connected to a network domain, or switch users

Re: [Audyssey] List of handheld games?

2006-12-20 Thread Charles Rivard
Radio Shack sells handheld slot machines. All you need is a method of
keeping your remaining total. One that I have is a machine on which you can
bet from 10 to 50 points in 10-point increments. You can bet on the center
horizontal row only, that plus the top horizontal row, those plus the bottom
horizontal row, those plus the bottom left to top right diagonal row, or
those plus the top left to bottom right diagonal. It is fully accessable by
sound. When you reach a total of 0, you cannot bet any more until you reset
the game to the 500 point starting total. If you lose track of your total,
you can reset it at any time to 500 and start over, or have someone look at
the screen. If you don't play for a while, the machine shuts off, retaining
your current total. It operates on 1 tripple A battery. Sighted people can
turn the sound off.

Re: [Audyssey] sryth again

2006-12-20 Thread Bryan Peterson
You should actually be able to complete Gralgarak's Tomb long before any of
those adventures. Just keep trying it. No matter how high your Mlee Rating
is, that adventure's going to be tough. It's designed that way. If you'd
held on to the Blade of the Fox and Enchanted Dagger I'd suggest you use the
dagger for the first fight, the Fox Blade for the second and then the Hale
Blade for the third. The game will still be adjusted for the prior weapon
even if you equip a new one right before each fight. In effect the game will
still think you're using the dagger when you equip the fox blade, and then
it'll adjust to the fox blade and won't readjust when you equip the Hale
Blade.
It ain't pretty when the pretty leaves you with no place to go.

[Audyssey] Evolution of the Bop-it was List of handheld games?

2006-12-20 Thread Phil Vlasak
Hi Folks,
I think there are at least four generations of bop-its.
The original has 3 sounds and three things you have to do, bop it is a
button in the center, twist it is a wheell at one end and pull it on the
other end.
It makes a sound and a guy says the words and you have an increasingly
shorter time to do what he says.
If you do it coreeectly you get another sound and it picks one of the three
again for you to do.
If you get it wrong he crys out and you get the sound of your number with
tens being one sound and ones being another.
So if you get 33 you would hear,
bong, bong, bong, ding, ding, ding,
The bop-it extreme added two more flick-it and spin-it.
and it is shaped like four arms off a center hub.
The bop-it blast, was released two years ago,
went back to the original 3 things but was shaped like a whish bone.
It had both a male and female voice and actually spoke your score with the
voice.
Bop It Extreme 2 is the latest version of Bop It
Now you can BOP IT! TWIST IT! PULL IT! SPIN IT! to a mix of four different
music styles;Plus, the longer you play, the more the beats evolve and
change.

You Bop It to Pop, Rock, Latin and RB beats.
Phil

 Hello all,
Just wondering what different types of handheld games people know of here?
The only ones I'm aware of are the bop it, top it, and some other game
that had different colored sides and you had to flip around to the right
color. forgot the name of that one.
Does anyone know of any other good ones? I'm thinking of getting a
handheld with in the next few days. Getting tired of bop it. lol
 thanks!

Well smile I just installed the JD demo and
tried all three levels. Very, very nice! woohoo! I used the machine
 gun
and had no enemies land!

 Smiles,

Re: [Audyssey] List of handheld games?

2006-12-20 Thread Everett Elam
Hm there was a fishing game I had a long long time ago that was mega
accessible. I don't even know if it's being made anymore-- it was made by
tigered. You'd turn the reel while adjusting your tention and there would be
sound cues for if your line was about to break, etc. I think my cousin tried
to beat someone with it so... it doesn't make much noise anymore. Anyone
know about this? I loved it. there were eight levels, but I never beat it.
It gets pretty hard, but there are sound cues for everything.

Hello Cara. That is interesting. I have never heard the context menu
 key
be called the right windows-key. Although it would make sense in the
case of it not being usually on the right, but also because it
 simulates
the right-mouse-click. How about you and I start a new campaign. We
 call
the left windows the start button key since that is essencially what it
does, and the right windows key the context-menu key since that is what
 it brings up?

 What do you say?

Nah, you are a busy person, LOL.

 Thanks in any case.

 * Cara Quinn [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2006-12-19 06:11]:
I believe that method should work regardless of whether extensions
 are
showing, but thanks for the note. smile

As far as the right windows key, I certainly don't want to cause
 any
confusion, but most people I know, call that key the right windows
 key,
rather than the applications key, and the other, the left windows key,
 so
effectively, some keyboards would have two left windows keys on them.

smile Am certainly not saying that you're wrong, and it may be a
matter of people simply using an incorrect name for a key, no biggie.
 The
only place I've ever heard that key called an applications key is in
context of a screen reader, so perhaps that's correct.

Anyway, thanks for the note and have an awesome day!...

 Smiles,

Everett, well that seems to be an issue with a lot of others here as
well, which I'll clear up soon. A new copy of the manual with working
links may already be written, but I need to get in touch with the person
who did it so it may take me a few days. Once I locate them, I'll post
 the
manual on my ftp site, and that way the sounds will be a whole lot easier
 to figure out.

 Smiles,

 Cara

Ok,thanks Thomas that sounds doable. Might modify that slightly by
dividing everything by ten and rounding the 5's up.
The tricky point here is how to manage a circuit with online racing, when
some folks won't be able to join races due to time zone differences and
 schedule conflicts.
I am thinking of running qualifiers, then having a set date for the main
race, with two races spaced 12 hours apart, then I would have the code
 merge
the two races best times for the points.
This online play is tricky business, but makes playing the game a lot
 more
fun as it is always more enjoyable to beat other humans in my opinion.

[Audyssey] comedy game... maybe?

2006-12-20 Thread Everett Elam
Ok, first of all, I know that I'm new to this list and my messages are a bit
goofy sometimes and I hope I'm not irritating any of you. That's not what I'm
out to do.
I'm seriously asking for this. I'm going to assume all the blindies here are
familiar with walmart... hahaha. I want a game where you go around trashing
walmart and getting points for what you destroy, how bad it is destroyed, etc.
I'm serious as sin. If I get a sterio recorder, I'd go out and record samples
of walmart and anything else and send them into a developer. I'd pay upwards of
$50 for this! We need it! It needs realistic stereo/surround sound, good voice
acting and funny scenes so Its not just a bobbies revenge sourt of thing, but
omfg would that not be great? Come on! How many of you haven't gone into
walmart and thrown something into the next aisle only to hear an old lady
shriek in surprise as she's bonked on the head? Or how many of you have gone
into the pepsies and shaken every last one of them so that the next unfortunate
customer will pick it up and turn their kitchen into a catastrophe? Liam? Tom?
Drop whatever you are doing, and make me this game!
Seriously, action and adventure is awesome, rpg is wicked, but don't you guys
think we need some funny games too? My sense of humor is my life line to
sanity, which is probably why I'm so adamant about this, but I think it would
be just awesome.
Take care and discuss it please! I think it would rock!

 Hi Folks,
I think there are at least four generations of bop-its.
The original has 3 sounds and three things you have to do, bop it is a
button in the center, twist it is a wheell at one end and pull it on the
 other end.
It makes a sound and a guy says the words and you have an increasingly
shorter time to do what he says.
If you do it coreeectly you get another sound and it picks one of the
 three
 again for you to do.

 Phil

 Hello all,
Just wondering what different types of handheld games people know of
 here?
The only ones I'm aware of are the bop it, top it, and some other game
that had different colored sides and you had to flip around to the right
color. forgot the name of that one.
Does anyone know of any other good ones? I'm thinking of getting a
handheld with in the next few days. Getting tired of bop it. lol
 thanks!
