[Audyssey] Top Sped Discovery

2012-06-03 Thread Alfredo Castaneda

Hello guys,
Whilst in a game of Top Speed, something occurred to me as being
something quite interesting to those of you who have a passion for
communication other than casual means. I wondered why I did not think of
it before. I was in a mufti-player race. You all know that the space bar
acts like a horn, right? Well, I discovered that you can send messages
over the wire by tapping on the bar as if it were a telegraph key. I
thought it was a really interesting way to communicate, and I found the
process to be quite slow, as the players of course did not know what
Morse code is.
I do not know if this has already been suggested, but is it possible
that there could be chat communications, such as those set in Acefire,
where one could type a message for all players to see, and it could read
something like, Player X says: Message.
Anyhow, I thought I might point this out. This was with Top Speed III by
the way.
On a side note here: My friends and I are finding out that when you are
using a computer that is receiving internet from a router, you cannot
host a game, but if you are on a computer that is on a LAN connection,
and also broadcasting the wireless signal, then you can host games. Is
this true?

I've been having something of an issue myself, though the recent rebalancing

helped, sinse I no longer worried why I was getting my level 24 or 25 self
beaten up in blackwater hollows or the djinni school, which is now I believe

an lvl 27 area.

I did get a little tired of spamming the viking village, nurgling mound and
north swamp, but that seems to be improving now, and hopefully once I fix my

equipment it will be better still, plus I need to check out the dark forest,

(I've been to the wyvern forest and the rogue's forest north of
dragontooth). .

I'm really looking forward to those elemental planes areas, they look lovely

to explore.

Lindsay,

I feel your pain. Your characters are in one of the level ranges that
we know is weak, and while we're working to add more areas around that
level, it can be hard if you don't know what you're doing. I actually
wrote an article on this a couple of years ago:

The level ranges in that article aren't quite accurate anymore - most
of the areas have been raised in level, so be careful going to them.
The article also doesn't include the stuff in the new dark forest,
which I found hugely helpful.

Please let me know if any of those work out better for you, or if the
guide is too out of date to be useful.

[Audyssey] Achaea, MUD

2012-06-03 Thread Lexi A
Hi, all.

I thought while we were on the discussion of MUDS I'd get some opinions.
Recently I've read about a MUD called Achaea. I am wondering if anyone on
the list plays it or who has played it. I've heard the combat is quite
complex, especially during PVP and I'm wondering if its doable with a reader
and maybe some sound triggers? I am seriously thinking about creating a
character on the game so if anyone has any tips on how to play using JAWS
and vip mud it would be great to know about them and also any in game tips
that might make things easier. I am not sure how to script using VIP MUD
but I'm willing to try if scripts are needed to make gameplay easier.

Re: [Audyssey] Top Speed Discovery

2012-06-03 Thread Kevin Andrews

Alfredo,

It is possible to play top speed even if you're behind a router. If the
host is behind a router they simply need to forward the correct port,
and the process for doing this varies slightly depending on the
configuration of the router. I've played with friends, and the host was
behind a router. If you're all on the same network then obviously none
of that needs to be done. As far as your suggestion, I do agree that
would be a nice feature - perhaps they'll add it in a future release.

[Audyssey] Mushclient music and ambience problem still not fixed

2012-06-03 Thread dark
This is really address to oriol.

The issue I mentioned before about ambience and music in the alter pack of mush
being messed up still doesn't seem fixed.

Everytime I enter a new area, quite often the volumes of one or other will
reset, when i start the game I don't get music, and in some areas like the
viking village I don't get ambience.

I'm not sure what this is, but I've tried on both machines I own and it happens
both ways.

i know some people don't really think much to the music and ambience, but I'm a
fan of them myself, so if Oriol could look at this that would be great. yes,
it's possible to play without, but not with quite the same atmosphere.

All the best,

Dark.

Hi. Aardwolf you can turn exp off until you want to gain exp.
And discworld you advance your character when you want with
skills and such. You are always gaining exp on discworld even by
just sitting and talking with people but you only spend it when
you want. I agree with you on mm. That is why I stopped playing
there. And I must admit alter aeon is nice in the respect that
you only advance when you want like discworld. I may actvally
play discworld again. I don't know I am pretty busy these days.

Materiamagica I have tried, but the way you could level yourself

It took me four attempts just to get most of the stuff from the
newbie area,
and when i finished that, I looked around the forest for marks,
but found
that in my looking I'd got past level 20 and so made myself
ellegeable for a

This I didn't appreciate at all, indeed it seemed that in mm
either you had
to play with a wiki and spoiler list open, or wander around and
just hope to
find stuff while you were still elegeable for it, neither of

Hi jessica.

The odd thing is, I love quests and exploration, and fights in
line of

that.
To be told to go and kill an evil wizard, or slay a hole bunch
of orcs,

then
wade out and do it is really my thing, in fact sinse I do a

which is

never

really been tempted by the game.

I suppose ultimately it's just that if I had enough site, I
wouldn't be
playing multiplayer rpgs at all! I'd be playing single player
ones, sinse

for me the hole online with other people element is sort of an
afterthought, yes, I'll say hi to people, maybe trade, and
maybe drop

a
heal spell, but I'm not really keen on actually grouping, and I
actively

dislike pvp.

Because of this preference for single player story and questing

 Lindsay,

I feel your pain. Your characters are in one of the level ranges that
we know is weak, and while we're working to add more areas around that
level, it can be hard if you don't know what you're doing. I actually
wrote an article on this a couple of years ago:

 http://www.alteraeon.com/articles/experience-runs-on-archais.html

The level ranges in that article aren't quite accurate anymore - most
of the areas have been raised in level, so be careful going to them.
The article also doesn't include the stuff in the new dark forest,
 which I found hugely helpful.

Please let me know if any of those work out better for you, or if the
guide is too out of date to be useful.

 Thanks,

 Dennis Towne

Re: [Audyssey] Alter Aeon: Discuss

2012-06-03 Thread gamers
Hi Lindsey.

Interestingly I notice from the levels of your characters that you fall into
that bracket of 65 to 90 which is where I have often found it hard to
progress. With Alter Aeon I often find when you get to Archies the real
challenge begins. Up until that point your hand is being held quite a lot by
the quests and when you get to archies you have to be a lot more careful
about where you go. It is difficult to advise you on areas and specifics
without knowing where you currently try to go. The mainland is a real
mixture although it is getting better, there are places where you can get
decent XP without dying but they are spread out quite a bit I find and often
can be slap bang next to areas where you will get your arse kicked in a
second.

Progression at times like this can often be a case of more than simple hack
and slash. AA gives you many opportunities to get xp and when staying alive
is harder to do then it is often time to not step out of the easier areas
just yet but switch tactic and gain the xp from other means such as skill
improves or high return skills like turn undead. If you just want to hack
and slash to get xp then get yourself into groups and benefit from the added
security they offer. I personally prefer to solo quite a lot and do have to
switch my playing style quite a lot to maintain that stream of XP. From
simply gathering exploration points to focusing on particular skills and
spells to get improves, doing quests obviously helps too.

Hope this helps a little and if you want to provide more info on the areas
you currently go then I would be happy to offer more advice.

Paul

Re: [Audyssey] Achaea, MUD

2012-06-03 Thread Jessica and Trish the Golden Dog
Hello. A character named vadimus has created most scripting
needed but it will cost you some game credits which you will
either have to accomulate up with time or buy. Or you can do the
triggers and such you need on your own.
I have mixed feelings about achaea. If you just create a
character just to explore and play the way you like it can be
fun. But you lose out on all the activities house and city
membership can provide.
All iron realms games are like this. They are also very roleplay
intensive. Again if you create a non housed non city character
it can be fun. But if you join a house or city you are required
to obey the rules of that city or house. To me it takes a lot of
the fun out of the games and I really in one way don't understand
why the iron realms games have such high rankings.
It is also very player vs player. Again this is where a lot of
the excitement can be.
I love the potion creation and herb plant picking if you go for
one of the classes that offers that. If you don't you can only
buy the ingredients from shops which can be very costly.
There also aren't a ton of players online which can be a blessing
or curse depending on how you look at it.
If there was a game like achaea that didn't have the intense
roleplay and had all the neat games like egghunt and such and
only had hunting I would play it. But I don't like the intense
roleplay. The limiting of yourself to one class among other
things. It makes for a very real live type of gaming world. But
I want to enjoy myself when playing a game. Not have to worry if
someone is going to steal from me while I am on a quest. Or pk
me for a role play reason that they made up thinking I might be
interested in role playing along. Or trying to reach the nearly
impossible ranks when a great hunt is going on simply so I can
get to the rank that allows me to get some free credits.
like I said I have very mixed feelings about Achaea. I would
like to play there for the fun stuff available. But I hate how
you are limited in certain ways if you chose not to join a house
and or city. It is definitely a game meant to be player vs
player. To play otherwise is almost boring.
But I would like to play a character that gets to dragon level
just to do it so maybe I will create a character that is not
housed and citied just for that purpose and then join a house or
city if I wish to do so at that point.
You can put antitheft features in place and they help a lot. I
have actually chuckled when people tried to steal from me but
couldn't because I had all the proper antitheft stuff on.
But it is still annoying when your in the middle of a quest and
these people just feel like trying to steal from you. Its just
annoying. If the game weren't so confounded real I would
probably like it more.
Please note all iron realms games have the same basic outline
which certain differences.
I love the crafting system on achaea. But I like batmud's more.
Mainly because again crafting jewelry making and the like costs
you a lot of gold or credits which you can get in game without
spending real money but it will take a while.
I gues I have a love hate relationship with the Iron realms
games. I would love just for the fun of it max a character on
each game just to say I have done so. But there is so much about
the games I don't like that I simply have never gotten that far.

Interesting. I agree its probably not something I'd be seriously

Corrected Subject Line:
Hello guys,
Whilst in a game of Top Speed, something occurred to me as being something
quite interesting to those of you who have a passion for communication
other than casual means. I wondered why I did not think of it before. I
was in a mufti-player race. You all know that the space bar acts like a
horn, right? Well, I discovered that you can send messages over the wire
by tapping on the bar as if it were a telegraph key. I thought it was a
really interesting way to communicate, and I found the process to be quite
slow, as the players of course did not know what Morse code is.
I do not know if this has already been suggested, but is it possible that
there could be chat communications, such as those set in Acefire, where
one could type a message for all players to see, and it could read
something like, Player X says: Message.
Anyhow, I thought I might point this out. This was with Top Speed III by
the way.
On a side note here: My friends and I are finding out that when you are
using a computer that is receiving internet from a router, you cannot host
a game, but if you are on a computer that is on a LAN connection, and also
broadcasting the wireless signal, then you can host games. Is this true?

Re: [Audyssey] Fw: [vipgameszonetalk] New project beta testing

2012-06-03 Thread Christina
This looks great!
I went to the website and pasted some of the info I found below in case any
of you want a better of what this game is about.
Christina

The foreign exchange market (forex, FX, or currency market) is a global,
worldwide decentralized financial market for trading currencies. Financial
centers
around the world function as anchors of trading between a wide range of
different types of buyers and sellers around the clock, with the exception
of weekends.
The foreign exchange market determines the relative values of different
currencies.
The foreign exchange market assists international trade and investment, by
enabling currency conversion.
The modern foreign exchange market began forming during the 1970s after
three decades of government restrictions on foreign exchange transactions
(the
Bretton Woods system of monetary management established the rules for
commercial and financial relations among the world's major industrial states
after
World War II), when countries gradually switched to floating exchange rates
from the previous exchange rate regime, which remained fixed as per the
Bretton
Woods system.
The Forex market is useful because it helps enable trade and transactions
between countries, and it also allows an investment opportunity for risk
seeking
investors who don't mind engaging in speculation.
One of the unique aspects of the Forex market is that the volume of trading
is so high, partially because the units exchanged are so small. It is
estimated
that around $4 trillion goes through the Forex market each day. also called
foreign exchange market.

Some of the participants in foreign exchange market are simply seeking to
exchange a foreign currency for their own, like multinational corporations
which
must pay wages and other expenses in different nations than they sell
products in. However, a large part of the market is made up of currency
traders,
who speculate on movements in exchange rates, much like others would
speculate on movements of stock prices. Currency traders try to take
advantage of
even small fluctuations in exchange rates.
In finance, an exchange rate (also known as the foreign-exchange rate, forex
rate or FX rate) between two currencies is the rate at which one currency
will be exchanged for another. It is also regarded as the value of one
country's currency in terms of another currency.

I'm getting a little frustrated with archase to tell the truth.
yep, I can stick to the viking village, wivern forest, and nurgling mound
and nurgling swamp but that is no fun, as I've seen those areas far too many
times, so I go into a new area, am fine most of the time then suddenly bam!
one mob ko's me in an instant fight because there is one harder monster like
nana in asgard (where I've still not managed to find the quest), or Steven
in the hospital, which was a none combat area up to the fight with him,
however for some reason the flee command just failed to work so he killed me
again!

i've just done this twice, once in asgard and once in the hospital, both
times to mobs hwho were the hardest person there, and now for all that I've
played alter for about 5 hours today have wound up with less xp than when I
started with, despite the fact that my new eq seems to be better.

This was why I haven't played much for a while, but for all my playing
today, completing a couple of quests and gaining several explorer points
I've not got anywhere in terms of levels at alls, in spite gaining at least
4 mill xp today in total!

it's actually a shame there isn't a way to save your xp so you don't lose as
much when dying.

switch my playing style quite a lot to maintain that stream of XP. From
simply gathering exploration points to focusing on particular skills and
spells to get improves, doing quests obviously helps too.

Hope this helps a little and if you want to provide more info on the
areas

you currently go then I would be happy to offer more advice.

areas to xp any more, and when I xp, I die, has anyone got any advice?

[Audyssey] Voices needed for the Sarah game.

2012-06-03 Thread Phil Vlasak

Hi Folks.
Some people have complained about the flat and dead voices of the ghosts in
my Sarah game.
I thought it was appropriate to use synthesized voices but who am I to argue
with the public?
I've added a bunch of real humans talking in the game but I have a need for
voices for,
The goblin, Peeves, Nearless Headless Nick, the Fat Friar, Moaning Myrtle,
the fat lady, and Dobby.

You need to record each phrase 2 times. This is for randomize sakes. Upon
playing a voice in my game, it will randomize all the phrases to make it
feel a bit more natural.

For example:
Very important! Please make sure you get the best out of your microphone,
and environment. Be in a quiet as possible room, and remove anything that
might make your microphone sound bad. This is serious! Otherwise, your voice
might need to be rejected.
Rejection is no problem, you can always try again. Just understand that I
want to have the best possible quality in the game, and this includes
voices!
Please be as lively as possible while recording. And if it may involve
screaming, so be it. Don't feel bad, the result will make it worthwhile!

Try to emote everything as good as you can.
Accents are absolutely no problem. Talk in your normal accent, just like you
normally would.
Results can be sent via attached Mail to p...@pcsgames.net and I'll get back
to you.
Please send me the whole recording session in one mp3 file. This being you
start recording, begin acting, then stop. Try not to stop after each
recording. Don't worry, no one will ever hear your outtakes, and I won't
judge you either. This just makes it much easier for me.
Remember your microphone position, the room you were in, and the recording
settings in case I need more recordings from you.
Since most of the ghosts and creatures are all from the UK, To make sure you
have a good enough accent, I'll need you to say a few test phrases.

Moaning Myrtle:
A high pitched teenage female voice interrupted by sobs and cries.
My name is Myrtle. I do have feelings, you know. Even if I'm dead.

Stop it. You're making fun of me.

I've never come out to speak to anyone before. Well never for a girl.

Dobby the house elf:
His voice was high, a teeny, quivering squeak.

I'm Dobby, Miss. Just Dobby. Dobby the house-elf, bound to serve one house
and one family forever.

Begging your pardon, miss, Dobby has a helpful mirror, for you, Anytime,
Miss, just say Dobby help, and Dobby will try. But Dobby is wanting paying
for his work, miss.

Dobby heard tell of it from the other house-elves when he came to Hogwarts,
Miss if you want hiding, The ghosts can't find you in the broom cupboard.

Binns:
drones like an old vacuum cleaner
voice dry, reedy, and wheezy; tends to drone on and on
often cleared his throat with a small noise like chalk snapping

I am Professor Binns. My subject is History. I deal with facts, not myths
and legends

It is such a very sensational, even ludicrous tale.

it was an age when we were feared by common people. and suffered much
persecution.

It is believed to be some sort of monster, but I tell you, the thing does
not exist.

Peeves:
often makes A loud, rude sound, like the air being let out of a balloon,
or a pop sound.
makes rude noises, an evil cackle and sometimes screeches,

I'm Peeves, run for your lives!

GOT YOUR CONK!

Who's there? I Know you're there, even if I can't see you.

Wandering around at midnight, Tut, tut, tut.

Ah ha! Naughty, naughty, you'll get caughty.

Nearless Headless Nick:
In a friendly helpful tone.
I would prefer you to call me Sir Nick.

Anything I can do?

Hello, hello, Enjoying yourself?

You'd better get out of here.

Fat Lady:
Password?

Who's there?

Are you going to give me the password, or will I have to stay
awake all night?

goblin:
In a low pitched Bulgarian accent.
My name, Griphook

You have some gold, Miss?

Eye vill take, your gold.

Hi Phil, I'm still up for recordings and will send you them just as soon as
I can book a session with my radio producer.

I must say though, out of all the ghosts I think Bins is the much better
voice as he stands, how on earth did you make a synthetic voice do that, did
you dry him out beside a fire for a few hours? :)

Corrected Subject Line:
Hello guys,
Whilst in a game of Top Speed, something occurred to me as being
something quite interesting to those of you who have a passion for
communication other than casual means. I wondered why I did not
think of it before. I was in a mufti-player race. You all know that
the space bar acts like a horn, right? Well, I discovered that you
can send messages over the wire by tapping on the bar as if it were
a telegraph key. I thought it was a really interesting way to
communicate, and I found the process to be quite slow, as the
players of course did not know what Morse code is.
I do not know if this has already been suggested, but is it
possible that there could be chat communications, such as those set
in Acefire, where one could type a message for all players to see,
and it could read something like, Player X says: Message.
Anyhow, I thought I might point this out. This was with Top Speed
III by the way.
On a side note here: My friends and I are finding out that when you
are using a computer that is receiving internet from a router, you
cannot host a game, but if you are on a computer that is on a LAN
connection, and also broadcasting the wireless signal, then you can
host games. Is this true?

2012-06-03 Thread john

You should post on gossip or xp if you die, and say where you
did. I know I was on when you were and I'd be more than gladd to
grab your corpse and give you a res. That should give you some of
your exp, all of your gold and some of the knowlige back. As far
as loosing exp goes, it only gets worse; you loose half at later
levels (up to 10 mill).
Regarding death, do you consider non-aggressive mobs before
fighting them? I know that all of the mobs on the second floor of
the hospital are much much more dangerous, and most of them cast.
Some of this info might have been on consider. Also, I can't say
how much it helps to have other's with you, even if it's just an
afk necro who's tank your healing.

I'm getting a little frustrated with archase to tell the truth.
yep, I can stick to the viking village, wivern forest, and
nurgling mound
and nurgling swamp but that is no fun, as I've seen those areas
far too many
times, so I go into a new area, am fine most of the time then
suddenly bam!
one mob ko's me in an instant fight because there is one harder
monster like
nana in asgard (where I've still not managed to find the quest),
or Steven
in the hospital, which was a none combat area up to the
fight with him,
however for some reason the flee command just failed to work so
he killed me

again!

i've just done this twice, once in asgard and once in the
hospital, both
times to mobs hwho were the hardest person there, and now for all
that I've
played alter for about 5 hours today have wound up with less xp
than when I
started with, despite the fact that my new eq seems to be
better.

This was why I haven't played much for a while, but for all my
playing
today, completing a couple of quests and gaining several explorer
points
I've not got anywhere in terms of levels at alls, in spite
gaining at least

4 mill xp today in total!

it's actually a shame there isn't a way to save your xp so you
don't lose as

much when dying.

Hi Lindsey.

Interestingly I notice from the levels of your characters that
you fall

into
that bracket of 65 to 90 which is where I have often found it
hard to
progress. With Alter Aeon I often find when you get to Archies
the real
challenge begins. Up until that point your hand is being held
quite a lot

by
the quests and when you get to archies you have to be a lot more
careful
about where you go. It is difficult to advise you on areas and
specifics
without knowing where you currently try to go. The mainland is a
real
mixture although it is getting better, there are places where
you can get
decent XP without dying but they are spread out quite a bit I
find and

often
can be slap bang next to areas where you will get your arse
kicked in a

second.

Progression at times like this can often be a case of more than
simple

hack
and slash. AA gives you many opportunities to get xp and when
staying

alive
is harder to do then it is often time to not step out of the
easier areas
just yet but switch tactic and gain the xp from other means such
as skill
improves or high return skills like turn undead. If you just
want to hack
and slash to get xp then get yourself into groups and benefit
from the

added
security they offer. I personally prefer to solo quite a lot and
do have

to
switch my playing style quite a lot to maintain that stream of
XP. From
simply gathering exploration points to focusing on particular
skills and

spells to get improves, doing quests obviously helps too.

Hope this helps a little and if you want to provide more info
on the

areas
you currently go then I would be happy to offer more advice.

Paul

Hi all,

I used to play alter aeon, but found it very hard to xp. My two
main
characters, Deborah and Tina, are quite high level, and I
struggle to find
areas to xp any more, and when I xp, I die, has anyone got any
advice?

2012-06-03 Thread dark
I'm not really a group player, that's the problem. Dentin has stated the
game is playable solo, and that's largely true, but it seems only if you
stick to specific areas, and if the mobs in the hospital are so tough, why
is it only level 23?

As for aggression, nana or whatever her name is in asgard was agro, so no
dice, and the guy in the hospetal showed up as a minus 1, indeed the fight
wasn't going too bad accept for some reason the run, and flee commands all
didn't work.

You should post on gossip or xp if you die, and say where you
did. I know I was on when you were and I'd be more than gladd to grab your
corpse and give you a res. That should give you some of your exp, all of
your gold and some of the knowlige back. As far as loosing exp goes, it
only gets worse; you loose half at later levels (up to 10 mill).
Regarding death, do you consider non-aggressive mobs before fighting
them? I know that all of the mobs on the second floor of the hospital are
much much more dangerous, and most of them cast. Some of this info might
have been on consider. Also, I can't say how much it helps to have other's
with you, even if it's just an afk necro who's tank your healing.
