Re: [Audyssey] a discussion on freemium games
The other point of the article charlse that I found quite interesting, was the fact that a lot of those styles of games that have you check in occasionally, do a bit of mindless clicking for experience and go back are closer to the mechanical process of a slot machine, than a true resource management game where your actively thinking about the world and where to put things, that the game has gone more into generating cash by actively encouraging you to spend time through mindless clicking than to give you a serious challenge and entertinament. I've certainly seen my share of games that have nothing in gameplay but dayly clicks and yet have custom currencies and very expensive purchices that do not a lot but increase time. Of course this isn't to say all games are like That. Solara has it's share of tactics, as well as lots of fun stuff like described artwork, stories and dayly challenges that have nothing to do with making you pay for Esper, but as I said I've seen far too many games that don't have these factors. I've been recently trying out Lords and knights, and while it undoubtedly has a major element of resource management and pvp for those who are interested in such, it also does have some of the hallmarks of this style of play, for example going back every so often and needing just to click a few buttons to get your in game resources, as well as some pretty pointless uses for gold, though Lords and Knights is still very up front about when you are and aren't needing to use paid currency. Re: [Audyssey] a discussion on freemium games
I think I see the point of the article. Customers should be told, right up front, what they are going to encounter. In a sense, the game companies are trying to get your money by having you play in such a way as to unknowingly give it to them, and are, to a point, ripping you off by not giving you much for your money even if you are aware of what you're spending. --- Be positive! Those of you who are Simpsons fans might already know the dead Homer society article (or rather novellaa), on the concept of Zombie simpsons, ie, why the Simpsons is no longer where it was and what it might be devolving into, (If you don't know it and are a simpsons fan i definitely suggest giving it a read, sinse at the same time it manages to be both highly readable and entertaining and extremely well researched). However, checking out that article again I notice that the webmaster has written a similarly in depth treatment of The Simpsons Tapped out game on Android which may be found here http://deadhomersociety.com/tapped-in/ I am %90 certain that this game is inaccessible, however Why have I posted this in General game discussion? Because the discussion of The Tapped out simpsons game goes into heavy detail on the concept of Freemium games, that is games that are essentially free to download and play but have a premium currency that is used to buy certain features or expantions in the game, especially I might add for these sorts of games that fall somewhere between resource management and a slot machine. I found the comparison of these to gambling and the idea that their ultimate aime is too get you into a state where you lose money quite worrying, however I have noticed such tendencies myself in games from the defunct Legend of Zork (cryticized as a payment system disguised as a game), to Epical gladiators, and possibly some of the Storm8 titles, games that exist more for the repetitive task than anything else. Of course, such a thing is a sliding scale, and a game like Puppet Nightmares or even a time management style game like Solara isn't guilty of all the same shabby tricks, for example spending of premium currency with no confirmation that Tapped out is guilty of, however I did find some cryticisms here quite fascinating for example the need to contribute four or five times the price f a standard mainstream game to unlock game features for essentially not much reward, indeed I have been investigating Lords and KNights for a db entry and I was interested to see how many of these cryticisms applies. As I said, from the article it is clear that Simpsons Tapped out is a relatively extreme example of this form of gambling disguised as a computer game, but it's probably worth thinking about some of these things next time you considder whether to buy that extra bag of gold and just what the game is actually giving you in return or what it is trying to do, and a bit of awareness of possible abuses of a given system never hurts, especially with how common this idea of freemium perchices is. Hi Joshua. though they're called "skill items" what they actually are are skills. When you get one either through buying it in one of the skill shops or finding it in a dungeon you'll be told which of your creatures got the skill. Alternatively, if you have creatures of level 50 or higher you can buy skills for your skill book which you can then assign to creatures of higher level on their puppet's info page. hth. A simple game like darts could be fun because you would attempt to throw a dart into the center of the target. There are other party games like horse shoes, ring toss, etc which could easily be made into audio games that would be more fun and interesting. Re: [Audyssey] games we'd like to play: musical chairs
Hi, Yeah, I think an audio game based on Musical Chairs would be pretty lame all things considered. I don't consider Musical Chairs all that fun to begin with when actually playing it at a party etc, and it would be even less fun as a computer game because there wouldn't be much to do besides listen to the music and press a key to sit down as quick as possible when the music stops. Its just one of those games better played in person than it would be on a computer. As it so happens I can think of a number of party games that could be adapted into audio games that would be a lot more fun and have more replay value than Musical Chairs. There is always the old classic Pin the Tail on the Donkey which requires the player to be blind folded and would be well suited for an audio game. Re: [Audyssey] Anyone playing Puppet nightmares?
I’m playing again, and just got to episode 2 for the first time. I completed episode one sometime before, but after the ending of episode 1 I had to replay it due to new content, and the ending also appeared to have been rewritten. On another topic about the interface: Where can I find skill items? I bought two skill items and can’t find them in either items or equipment. I’m struggling with the Cultest Gathering boss in Onyx City so any skills I can get would be nice. > On Sep 21, 2014, at 10:22 AM, Paul Lemm wrote: > > Thanks Dark > > I haven't played the game in a while , but will give it ago to take a look > at the changes > > Paul Lemm > > -Original Message- > From: Gamers [mailto:gamers-boun...@audyssey.org] On Behalf Of dark > Sent: Thursday, September 18, 2014 6:55 AM > To: Gamers@audyssey.org > Subject: [Audyssey] Anyone playing Puppet nightmares? > > I realized the other day that I wasn't playing a browser game regularly and > that none of the new ones I found kept my interest precisely, so I've gone > back to give this one another try. > > There have been some recent layout changes in the game which, while not > actually necessary for access do make life easier. Re: [Audyssey] games we'd like to play: musical chairs
Hmmm as I understand it, if you were the last one on a chair you were out that is if you were last one to sit. every round the chairs were reduced till only 1 was left, or in some cases none, that last person won the entire game. However I never enjoyed it really that much. As a computer game, I am really not sure how you would make it really that good. It would be simple and rubbishy to see the best. some sort off randomised timer maybe, for the music, and then you would hit left arrow or right try to get a chair in say 10 seconds or something, every round a chair could go and you would have less time till everything stopped. However beyond that point I don't know what the replay value would be. It'd be a good oncer but then I would probably delete it. At 08:39 a.m. 21/09/2014, you wrote: Hi all Here is a new game concept for those of you who are studying bgt or another game programming language. First a bit of background. When I was a kid, I loved to play a game with my friends called musical chairs when we have a party. Musical chairs is a typical party game. If memory serves the minimum number of people must be five. Let's say 8 people is playing. Then 7 chairs are placed in a room. Then music is turned on. When I was a kid, we used fast and lively music like bluegrass music. Each person must find a chair and sit on it as quickly as possible. When the music stops, the person that is not seated on a chair is the loser. I'm not sure what the rule then is: If that person should not play in the next round. I played musical chairs years ago. I cannot remember what the rule then is. this is how I envision musical chairs as an audio game. I would place musical chairs in the arcade category. AS soon as the music plays, the player runs in the room by holding down an arrow key. Hold down left arrow to run left, up arrow to run ahead, down arrow to run backwards etc. All the chairs will make the same sound: either a voice saying chair or a sound that is easily identified with a chair. The other character's in this game concept are computer characters or bots also trying to find a chair as soon as possible. As soon as the player finds the chair he must center the sound of the chair in the center of the sound field by walking with the arrow keys until the chair's sound is centred. he must sit on it by pressing a tricky key combo like windows key plus alt plus shift plus control plus up arrow. If the music stops the character's name will be announced who is not seated on a chair, either the player or a bot. If the player is seated, an applause is heard. If the player is not seated on a chair the moment the music stops a buzzer is heard. If the player is seated on a chair when the music stops, the player is then taken to a bonus game likecandy hunt where the player runs in the room with the arrow keys and pick up different kinds of candy as much as possible within a given time. Candy like lickerish, toffees, nickerballs etc. If the player is not seated on a chair when the music stops, obviously the player does not qualify for the bonus game. I realized the other day that I wasn't playing a browser game regularly and that none of the new ones I found kept my interest precisely, so I've gone back to give this one another try. There have been some recent layout changes in the game which, while not actually necessary for access do make life easier. For example now all the items have lnks on where tofind them and what they can be used for rather than having to traul the long item lists, Equipment now his categories for shops and again a much easier display also soul puppet stats have a much nicer display system too. Probably the biggest change I've noticed is that now all the top menues are hidden by default meaning you no longer have a huge sprawling page to navigate through, (particularly now that most of the item lists are gone and you just have linked pages instead). Oh, and battle is much quicker too sinse your creatures no longer do nothing if not given an action, they default to a standard attack, meaning that you can just hit the execute button while grinding. There are more important game changes of course, like now you can play after episode 5 and encounter more enemies, dungeons are also smaller meaning less grinding and more fun bos fights, but in a way it's the layout changes I like sinse they just make what was initially quite a complex game to navigate all the easier. So, if you fancy having a try at an evil and twisted version of pokemon, go and http://www.puppetnightmares.com/index.php?sh=23512 ? Re: [Audyssey] question about william lomas.
Ofcause I know its not legal to pirate games. I meant no idsrespect here. some of the games mentioned have gone through so many revisions, montisumers return is quite old, I never said that piracy was legal at all. I do understand where you are coming from with shades of doom, however even so. Even if there is a lagit hacker going out there point is even though there are laws against it a lot of alegal activity goes on on torrent sites. Again I am not saying anything against torrent sites but the fact a user was on one of them searching for something is itself something of a concern. I know a lot of people have setup files of this and that, I see requests for this on the forums. The fact ishen was on a torrent site where pirated stuff is out there is another question that should be asked. Since the laws in my country against piracy, torrents though themselves not alegal are not a safe place to go anymore. and I have no idea what to think at this point. First,of all, yes Shades of Doom 1.x is old, but that does not make it "old junk." Age has absolutely nothing to do with the quality or value of a product. As a matter of fact Shades of Doom still remains one of the better audio games out there, and for various reasons I still prefer the original over the new 2.0 version. So regardless of age that doesn't mean the original version is "old junk." Moreover how old does something have to be before piracy becomes legal? One day, one week, one month, one year, ten years? Fact of the matter is none of the above. Piracy is illegal no matter how old the product is, and a copyright holder has a right to any and all income from said product for a minimum of 50 years in most countries and possibly longer if he or she renews the copyrights frequently. Therefore just because Shades of Doom is going on fourteen years or so doesn't mean it is "old junk" and a punk can now legally crack it if he or she wants to. As a list moderator I'm telling you to stop spouting of garbage like that below or I will whole heartedly boot you from the list. I'm really getting sick of your crap, and its time either you straighten up or hit the road. Consider yourself warned. Hi Ishan, As stated Entombed is far from abandoned. Jason Alan is busy with work and family and doesn't have time to continue development on it full time, but that's not the same thing as abandoning it. Re: [Audyssey] another question of entombed.
Hi Ishan, What I am saying if you get into a battle with a quest objective you don't have the health or the skills to complete at that time you should flee, and come back to it later on in the game once you have leveled up some. You don't have to fight the enemy right then and there, and usually the game gives you the option to flee the battle. Re: [Audyssey] help needed running adventure at c
Hi, Agreed. I think 7zip is a better option than Winzip. However, that's beside the point. I just wanted to point out to Nicol to try something else other than Windows Explorer which isn't the best archive extraction tool for the job. wouldn't recomend winzip 7zip has a really good interface and its opensource. At 04:16 a.m. 20/09/2014, you wrote: Hi Nicol, My first thought is that Windows Explorer is having some sort of problem extracting the contents of the zip archive. Try a different zip utility like Winzip, Winrar, or 7zip and see if it gives you any errors when extracting the files. It is also possible you got a bad download and may need to try and redownload said zip file. Cheers! [Audyssey] a discussion on freemium games
hi.
