Re: [Audyssey] Park boss report.

2014-10-05 Thread Nick Adamson
Hi all
Thomas is spot on here.
The park report is not inaccurate, it just doesn't look at the human side of
running a business.
Also, you can pay the staff the suggested wages, they won't be happy but they
won't strike unless you get more visitors.
In terms of negotiation, all you have to do is adjust their pay. They'll go
back to work and will let you know if the change is good enough.
I've tried to make the staff expectations realistic. Entertainers are normally
quite high paid, think actors and musicians. Maintenance staff are genera
pretty well skilled and includes people like safety assesses as well as the
engineers that keep your rides running.
Ride operators are generally unskilled and quite often temps or students.
Hope this clarifies things.
Nick.

Re: [Audyssey] Park boss report.

2014-10-05 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Lori,

One way to help with keeping yourself out of the red is by slightly
raising meal and snack prices. Meal and snack prices will be your main
source of income so finding out how much your customers will pay will
help as far as currency goes.

Another way to help increase profit is find ways to get more customers
such as paper and radio adds if you can afford them. Sometimes they
will get you nothing and sometimes you may pull in an extra couple
hundred customers per week.

P.S.

As for Steve Jobs he was the former CEO of Apple. However, he died a
few months back.

Hi,
Thanks. The principle of negociation wasn't quite what was alluding me; it
was simply how it was applied in the context of Park Boss. I'll have to try
that and see what happens.

Hi Hayden,

Generally when you negotiate with your employees you can try and offer a
price and they will either go back to work or still stay out on strike.
There is no way to just wait them out. I tried that once and my park went
under with everyone stubbornly waiting for me to increase their wages. My
strategy is to try and meet them in the middle. Say I am paying them 8 per
hour and they want 10 I can increase their wages to 9 per hour and that will
end the strike.

Hi Hayden,

Depends on how popular your park is. Firing your entertainers may
cause a drop in customer satisfaction and you may experience a few
less customers, but I haven't noticed anything so bad I absolutely had
to hire them back. If they wanted too much money I found I was better
off without them than with them. My outgoing expenses went way down
and I could afford some loss in customer sales.

Re: [Audyssey] Park boss report.

2014-10-05 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Lori,

Perhaps. However, somehow I don't think that will change things much.
The consultants only look at the bottom line, what financially would
be best for your park, but totally exclude or overlook the human
element in their suggestions.

For example, if the consultants say your employees should only be paid
3 per hour it is technically correct based on your income, number of
customers, etc but not necessarily something your employees would
agree to. They may have expectations of earning a wage much higher
than that like 8 or 9 per hour, and as the boss it is your job to try
and negotiate a wage somewhere between what they want and what the
consultants suggest would be financially feasible for your park. So
firing the consultants would not do you much good since they are just
going to give you the bare minimums when suggesting wages, ticket
prices, etc. As long as you know in advance that their suggestions are
going to be a little low you can try and increase ticket prices and
wages by a couple of pounds over what they suggest to try and find the
happy medium.

Hi Desiree,

I happen to agree with you. I think wages should be allowed to be in
creased in smaller amounts than just pounds, and yes the UK does have
change. They call their coins by different names than the US currency,
but I think for simplicity sake Nick chose to round up or down to the
nearest pound.

Re: [Audyssey] suggestion for park boss

2014-10-05 Thread Dakotah Rickard
How about different kinds of coasters, as in something like Rollercoaster
tycoon: wood or steel construction, either straight, hilly, curvy, upside down,
etc. Just a thought of something maybe to add to a great game, unique to
anything we have on offer. I've been wondering how long it'd take before we got
a tycoon game of sorts. Please, you guys, keep making them this awesome.

[Audyssey] Audiogames.net and forum down?

2014-10-05 Thread Sarah Haake

Hi,

I can't reach the audiogames.net website and the forum.
It still worked for me about two hours ago.
Is anyone else able to reach the site or does know what the problem
might be?

And just in case anyone feels like complaining because I'm sending this
to the list instead of the site owner. First I don't have any contacts
from them right now and obviously can't get them when the site doesn't
work. And second, I also want to know if I'm the only one who can't
reach the site or if it's a general problem.
I just say this because this kind of thing caused a quite long and
tedious discussion last time, which is not at all what I want here.

Thanks and best regards
Sarah

2014-10-05 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Emily,

The game isn't that sophisticated. If you build a kids roller-coaster
the only thing you can decide is where to put it on your park's map.
Other than that you can't name it, decide number of passengers, number
of loops, etc. There is no way to modify the basic template.

You meet and interact with some of the Hogwarts staff, which may or may not
be a good thing, as you explore Hogwarts during the summer months as you
collect treasures and have a lot of fun.

Re: [Audyssey] Park boss report.

2014-10-05 Thread Desiree Oudinot
Hi,
I think the concept is that if you raise the wage just a bit, say half
of what they're asking for, that's negotiating. But I agree that this
needs to be more well-defined in the documentation, or a feature
should be added in which you talk to your employees and ask them what
they want.
It also occurs to me, now that I'm on this subject, that wages should
be able to be increased in smaller increments than just a dollar more
or less. Pardon my ignorance, but I'm not sure if this can be done in
UK currency or not. Much as we have dollars and cents here in the US,
are there smaller denominations than just pounds? I feel really silly
even asking that, but there you have it.

Honestly, I've never once generated a park report. Granted, my first
park went bankrupt at sometime around week 65, because I couldn't seem
to balance my prices. My second one... I don't even know what
happened. It went from a balance of about 300,000 pounds to negative
by about that much in two weeks. It was ... I don't even know.

Different types of roller coasters have different ways to seat you, or you
might be standing. Carousels have different animals, which can be real
artwork. You buy them premade rather than custom built, and they would be

Hi Hayden,

Same here. The first couple of parks I created I followed the park
reports rather faithfully and every time I took one of its suggestions
I ended up making the situation worse instead of better. I found out
through a little trial and error to use my own common sense and pay
people a wage I thought they should be making for their current job
rather than listening to the park reports.

For example, I remember this one park where I was paying everyone
about 8. The park reports told me I was paying them too much and I
should pay them 3. So I lowered wages to 3 per person. The next thing
I knew all of my employees were on strike and they now wanted 10 per
person. I ended up triggering a mass strike all because I followed the
park reports' so-called expert advice. I'd been better off to go with
my own judgment which was closer to their demands than the park
reports were.

Cheers!

You're looking for a staircase leading up. Somewhere on the first floor
you'll find a teleporter that, if you step in it, warps you back to the
regular gaming facility. So instead walk right past it until you hear the
staircase noise. Go up and take the south teleporter. The others will warp
you back down to the first floor.

[Audyssey] JAWS 16 not working with the Playroom?

2014-10-05 Thread hayden presley
Hi All,

I finally downloaded the new beta of JAWS the other day, and found to my
great irritation that upon logging into the playroom, I got no spoken
feedback. I was wonder if anyone else has had the same issue, and if so if
they have discovered a workaround that precludes the need to use JAWS 15 or
earlier.

2014-10-05 Thread hayden presley
Hi Thomas,
You mentioned that after striking, the employees wanted more than they were
being paid before you dropped your wages--something which brought to mind an
interesting phrase at the end of the strike eMails. If you recall, it is
mentioned that the wage might be negociable. I can't tell if this is simply
fluff, or if wage prices are, in some way, actually megociable. Problem is,
should the latter be true, I see no way of accomplishing that. Have you had
any experience in negociation with them? Perhaps you can just hold off
paying them for a week and they will shoot you a new suggestion? I honestly
am not sure.

Hayden

Hi Hayden,

Same here. The first couple of parks I created I followed the park reports
rather faithfully and every time I took one of its suggestions I ended up
making the situation worse instead of better. I found out through a little
trial and error to use my own common sense and pay people a wage I thought
they should be making for their current job rather than listening to the
park reports.

For example, I remember this one park where I was paying everyone about 8.
The park reports told me I was paying them too much and I should pay them 3.
So I lowered wages to 3 per person. The next thing I knew all of my
employees were on strike and they now wanted 10 per person. I ended up
triggering a mass strike all because I followed the park reports' so-called
expert advice. I'd been better off to go with my own judgment which was
closer to their demands than the park reports were.

Cheers!

Hi Thomas,
Oh, absolutely. I was simply referring to the previously made suggestion to
name them after famous rides straight out of the box. (At least, that's how
I read it.) Should Nick decide to include rides like Splash Mountain with
the game, I could see the situation possibly becoming a bit dodgey.

Hi Hayden,

Good point, but there are ways to avoid copyright and trademarks.
Namely if all attractions start out with a generic name and there is a way
to edit the profile for each attraction and give it your own name and have
it spoken by Sapi the copyright holders never need know about it. Chances
are they wouldn't know about it unless it was made public somehow. So being
able to edit and change the names of the rides yourself need not be a big
problem with copyrights and trademarks since it wouldn't officially be a
part of the game.

Hi Thomas,
Funny you should mention that. I believe my last entertainers were being
paid something like 10 pounds more than my park staff. I certainly
considered firing them more than once, but I wasn't sure precisely what kind
of ramifications this might have to the number of customers.

Hi Desiree,

For what it is worth I agree with you. I find the entertainers in Park Boss
far too winy and demanding. They constantly want more and more money while
they are nothing more than a side attraction. The attraction operators and
the maintenance do the real work of keeping the park running and they only
complain if I don't pay them a decent wage based on what the park takes in.
I have fired my entertainers more than once if I thought they were being too
greedy.
