Re: [Audyssey] The old text game known as adventure or colossal cave
Folks, Here is a review fromAudyssey; Computer Games Accessible to the Blind Issue 18: May/June/July, 1999 "Adventure 551" Reviewed by Kelly Sapergia "Adventure", or "Colossal Cave", was one of the first text adventure games of all time. It was first made in the late 70's. And it's still popular with Interactive Fiction players in the late 90's. There are numerous versions available for just about every computer platform. Even for a lot of the Adventure Game creation programs, like AGT, and Inform. And now, we have a new version of the game in TADS. Welcome to "Adventure 551"! One thing you're probably asking yourself at this point is "What's so good about another version of the game?" Well, this version is based on Dave Baggett's TADS version from 1993, but with a twist. "Adventure 551", which I'll refer to as "ADV551", features two games in one. One is a 551 point version by Dave Baggett (which I've never tried, unless it was in the "Colossal Cave Revisited" game), and the normal 360 point version. You can switch between these two games with a single command. Another bonus is that ADV511 will let you get rid of those annoying dwarves, and the pirate who shows up at random to steal your treasure. That made it more fun for me to play. I've never been able to win Colossal Cave in any form, and this one's no exception. But that doesn't mean you can't have fun with this game. One thing I wish the author of ADV551 could have done was to make it easy to get through the mazes without wasting time walking around in circles looking for the exit. That's infuriating! But on the bright side, the game is well written, and I'm glad I downloaded it. I'm rating it 9 out of 10. Note from Phil: this is a free DOS game, not a Windows game, I just posted it for those who never played it. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. If you are looking for preludeamals you won't find it, The game is, Lunimals an eco system simulation game This is a life simulation game, where you attempt to create, and maintain, a complex eco-system on the moon. This beta has 7 missions, each with their own set of quests. Unlike his previous games, this one is not self voiced with him speaking. The game should work with your preferred screen reading software, or you can use the built-in SAPI. It has been tested with NVDA and Window eyes. This game has simple graphics included, so if you have sighted friends or children, they can have fun with the game as well. https://p9.secure.hostingprod.com/@www.kaldobsky.com/ssl/audiogames.php - Original Message - From: "Michael Maslo" To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Tuesday, January 24, 2017 8:15 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] preludeamals (way too much fun) Where can I get this game Sincerely, Michael Maslo On Jan 24, 2017, at 19:06, Travis Siegel wrote: I don't know how many folks here have played aprone's preludeamals, but if you haven't, you should. [Audyssey] Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
Just listed on Bookshare: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story by Alexander Freed Go beyond the film with a novelization featuring new scenes and expanded material. As the shadows of the Empire loom ever larger across the galaxy, so do deeply troubling rumors. The Rebellion has learned of a sinister Imperial plot to bring entire worlds to their knees. Deep in Empire-dominated space, a machine of unimaginable destructive power is nearing completion. A weapon too terrifying to contemplate . . . and a threat that may be too great to overcome. If the worlds at the Empire's mercy stand any chance, it lies with an unlikely band of allies: Jyn Erso, a resourceful young woman seeking vengeance; Cassian Andor, a war-weary rebel commander; Bodhi Rook, a defector from the Empire's military; Chirrut Îmwe, a blind holy man and his crack-shot companion, Baze Malbus; and K-2SO, a deadly Imperial droid turned against its former masters. In their hands rests the new hope that could turn the tide toward a crucial Rebellion victory--if only they can capture the plans to the Empire's new weapon. But even as they race toward their dangerous goal, the specter of their ultimate enemy--a monstrous world unto itself--darkens the skies. Waiting to herald the Empire's brutal reign with a burst of annihilation worthy of its dreaded name: Death Star. I took a quick look around the web site, but only saw the trailer and a link to the kickstarter page. Do they do a guided demo of the game? What I mean, is there someone playing the game while the developer explains things here and there? So, regarding the movement system, is it similar to Manamon's, i.e. pushing the up arrow moves the character north, the left arrow moves west, and so on? How does it actually work? The movement, I mean? What about random encounters? How long are they making the game? If you cannot answer these questions, then fair enough, but I am probably going to contribute, but want to know what I am getting into. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Hi Phil. I'd be interested to know the access on this one. I've not had a new actual boppit device now for about 12 years or s. My mum joke's I'm not allowed! another since I mastered both of the ones I have in one weekend each getting the max score :D. I still have my two original ones here. One I think is the extreme, it sort of looks like a car steering wheel with the double sided boppit button in the center on a round thing (that also has the headphone jack), and the twist it, pull it, spin it and flick it controls round the sides. I then have another one my mum bought me a couple of years later, with two wing like controls with pull it and twist it coming out from the center with the boppit button, I think that's the blast. That has fewer controls but it does have a light bop mode, inaccessible without sight but doable for me. I've been vaguely interested in trying out some of the newer ones, and this one sounds rather cool, let me know on how the access to it is since the motionn sensative bit could be quite fun, especially if I can play with Mrs. Dark. [Audyssey] Bop-It 2016 the blind accessible hand-held game has new moves.
Bop-It 2016 Release date: July 1, 2016 Updated with 10 new fun moves, whip it, drink it, selfie it, hammer it, answer it, cradle it, saw it, sing it, golf it, and comb it. 3 AAA alkaline batteries required This version keeps the same functions from the original (bop it, twist it, pull it and bop it) but adds a bunch of motion-based commands that make it much more varied. You'll go through the motions of combing your hair, cracking a whip, hammering a hammer, answering a phone, taking a selfie, and other such motions as you play, and the unit does a good job of recognizing whether or not you've performed the action (it's actually pretty lenient as long as you are even close to getting the right motion). There's a bit of a longer learning curve here than with the super-simple original, but it's worth the effort as the expanded gameplay feels both familiar but fresh. Re: [Audyssey] The train now standing at platform N A Soft is Tube Sim, and its ready to depart.
Stephen,. This games simulates reality and you cant just exit reality. Escape pauses the game if you need to take a break for any reason. If you were driving a real train you wouldn't be able to just leave it in the middle of a tunnel and they have done the same thing in Tube Sim. To end a run early, hit F7 and you radio the control room asking for relief. When you open the doors at the next station your shift finishes and your taken to the main menu where you can exit the game. - Original Message - From: "Stephen" To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Thursday, December 22, 2016 4:54 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] The train now standing at platform N A Soft is Tube Sim, and its ready to depart. [Audyssey] Dungeons & Dragons
the role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons is now in the National Toy Hall of Fame. Dungeons & Dragons, was praised for creating a system of imaginative play that has entranced both kids and adults. When it emerged in 1974, Dungeons & Dragons was groundbreaking, says curator Nic Ricketts of The Strong. In addition to its own merits, the game created by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson established a pattern for how similar role-playing games might work both on table-tops and, eventually, on computers and other devices. As Ricketts says, the game's mechanics "lent themselves to computer applications, and it had a direct impact on hugely successful electronic games like World of Warcraft." national toy hall of fame http://www.toyhalloffame.org/ --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Hi Michael. Phil has a list over at http://www.pcs-games.net/MacGame-co.htm though it's not been updated in a year and I noticed it was missing a few games I know about. As far as I know there's silver dollar and change reaction from draconis, the games from audio it, (the inquisitor series, space encounter, flarestar etc), graille to the thief, blindside and I believe the blind swordsman since it's built in flash, though don't quote me on that last one. There is also I believe interactive fiction and muds for the mac, and likely browser games too. There might be more I'm missing, since I don't have a mac myself I only note the games in passing. all the best, Dark. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. [Audyssey] Blindfold Spite card game for iOS
Blindfold Spite By Kid Friendly Software, Inc It is a fully accessible card game for iOS, iPhone and iPad, inspired by the Skipbo card game, for both sighted and visually impaired people. The objective of the game is to be the first one to empty your stock pile. You have a stock pile with 30 cards, 4 discard piles, and your hand of 5 cards. Your opponent has the same. The deck consists of cards from 1 to 12. The game starts by playing a 1 card from your hand onto a build pile. Then if you have a 2 card, you play it, then a 3 card and so on, until you play a 12. The build pile is cleared off, and you start again. If you cannot play a card, you discard a card, and your opponent goes next. There are other rules, but that's a quick summary of the game. You can play with up to 3 computer opponents, and change their skill level. Blindfold Spite comes with coins to learn how to play, with additional coins available as an in-app upgrade for $4.99. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/blindfo . 19894?mt=8 --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Its called spur land. Spur is a popular restaurant in south africa and in this monopoly board I sharememories of my favorite spur dishes. Let me know if there is any squares on the board that you want info on. I had some trouble creating the board file. I have windows7 64 bit. I prefer to have user account control on 100 percent to notify me of unknown programs about to run. So after I created the board, I was looking for it in both the kitchen sinc folder under program files 86 and the kitchen sinc folder under documents but I couldn't find it. But strange enough, the monopoly game picks up the spur board. So I can play monopoly using my created board but the physical file was not there so that I can upload it. So I disabled user account control and rebooted my computer. Then going into the monopoly game my spur board was no longer there. So I had to create it again from scratch. So then I turned on user account control again and rebooted my computer. Now the spur board is there but its got a txt extention. Funny enough, the monopoly game picks up my spur board and I can play monopoly with it although the extention is txt. From my prrior computer which was windows xp I know that all board files has got another extention but I can't remember the extention. So here is the link to my spur land board; you just have to give it the propper extention after you placed it into the kitchensinc folder. [Audyssey] Harry Potter and the Cursed Child audiobook
Why are there no other audio versions of the new Harry Potter book except for this one? Harry Potter and the Cursed Child audiobook released on RNIB Library 2:30 PM EDT, AUGUST 16, 2016 Hypable by ANDREW SIMS A Harry Potter and the Cursed Child audiobook has been released on the Royal National Institute of Blind People's Talking Books library, for those in the U.K. with sight loss. Many Harry Potter fans have been hoping for a Cursed Child audiobook since the script book was released on July 31. While there are no plans for a wide release, an audiobook version of the eighth story does exist exclusively on the RNIB Library. Braille and large print editions of The Cursed Child are also available on the RNIB Library. A rep for J.K. Rowling tells us that the Cursed Child audio edition in the Talking Books library is "available to their members in specific, secure formats and is standard practice for all their publishing in order to make a book as accessible as possible." A sample of the audio edition can be found on RNIB's website. From listening to it we've learned that this book has one narrator acting out all of the characters. The script book is read exactly as it is printed, with the name of the character being read before each line is said, and the narrator puts some emotion into each line. Rowling's rep tells Hypable that outside of the book on RNIB, there "are no plans currently for the general release of an audio edition of the script book." The lack of a wider release for people outside of the sight loss community may have to do with the fact that the script book only exists because of the play. If an audio book were to be released to the masses, it could affect ticket sales for the play, since an audiobook of a stage show, if done properly, would likely have multiple narrators to cover all the voices. The audiobooks for the original Harry Potter series were narrated by Stephen Fry in the United Kingdom and Jim Dale in the United States. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. [Audyssey] New York sites, was I'm getting married in about five hours
Dark, While you're waiting, here are some things to do in New York: One of the first places to take a visually impaired visitor is the Brooklyn Botanic Garden home to the first garden in the United States specifically designed for blind or limited vision visitors. The Alice Recknagel Ireys Fragrance Garden, created in 1955, offers plants selected for their fragrant or tactile qualities. Visitors are encouraged to touch and smell all the plants. The Fragrance Garden plants, grown in raised beds, are the perfect height for those in wheelchairs or kids in strollers. They are very popular with small children and can be enjoyed by anyone. Braille labels identify the plants, and young kids also enjoy the tactile guides. Lighthouse International, based in New York, publishes a guide, "Let's Go! Museums in The Big Apple." The guide details information on facilities for the vision impaired at museums throughout the city. Some museums offer regularly scheduled touch tours, offering a tactile way for kids and adults to experience the museum; others have verbal descriptive tours where guides go into great detail about what you are encountering. Additionally, the non-profit Art Education for the Blind publishes a New York Beyond Sight audio guide with descriptions of favorite attractions by prominent New Yorkers. Their website provides many other resources for travelers with sight impairments Family members of any age will appreciate a rainy day or an afternoon at the Andrew Heiskell Library for the Blind at 40 West 20th Street in Chelsea. This barrier-free branch of the New York City Public Library has adult and children's reading rooms which provide specially-formatted materials, equipment for listening to recorded books and magazines, and a variety of other electronic reading aids. There may even be a free concert or lecture at your visit, so check their schedule ahead of time. Exploring The Intrepid Sea, Air And Space Museum With The Blind The U.S. S. Intrepid offers monthly guided verbal description and touch tours through the USS Intrepid, a WW II-era aircraft carrier. You can also book a private tour. For those with low vision, the museum offers verbal description and tactile guides using smart pen technology. Borrow the guides at the information desk and take the self-guided tour, with raised line maps, tactile images of artifacts and audio. Coach tells you where to go, and which of 5 different types of shots to make: such as a free throw, dunk, hook, jump or post shot. Philip, I've really enjoyed playing the Jungle game. I found it sluggish with JAWS running so I took it out of memory and the game then ran great. Lori, Good ideas. The game is set in the Summer between Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince, after the gilly weed was taken. However I will add it to Snape's office, as I'm sure he would have replenished his supply of it by then. I could add more food to the kitchen, but it can't be constantly replaced or the player could jus eat and eat, gaining tons of extra magical energy. - Original Message - From: "loriduncan" To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Tuesday, June 14, 2016 4:34 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Sarah game question There is Fred and George's swamp on floor 5 I think where the gilly weed is, although thinking about it now it's wierd how the weed isn't found in Snape's office where Dobby found it. Re: [Audyssey] Sarah game question
Lori, The ground floor corridor includes stairs to the basement floor and stairs to the first floor and the dungeon levels. As stairs both go up and down, I figured to use the down word in each description. So I had the map say Staircase down to ground floor corridor instead of Staircase up to first floor corridor. I probably should change that description because it really doesn't tell you where the stairs are going. Thanks, Phil - Original Message - From: "loriduncan" To: Sent: Friday, June 10, 2016 11:44 AM Subject: [Audyssey] Sarah game question Hi everyone, I was playing the Sarah game from PCS games last night for old times sake, and I noticed something wierd happening while I was using the map in the broom cupboard. Once it's done scanning the great hall it then goes to the right where the staff room is, and then I hear sarah say, "Staircase down to ground floor corridor", but I thought I already was on the ground floor, and I know that particular staircase leads to the basement. I wasn't sure if it was perhaps a bug, but thought I should mention it to Phil for perhaps fixing in the update. Also when I was in the cupboard I tried out the apperate spell just to see what'd happen, and found myself supposedly in a corridor, but when I tried moving in any direction I got the sound of poor Sarah smashing into a wall, so am I in a borded up passage or something? Also, just out of interest Phil, when Filtch leaves his office, would it be possible to hear the office door opening? It'd be so cool to be right outside when he opens it, then you could see if you could run away in time rather than apperate. I really hope the update comes out soon, I can't wait to try out those skiving snack boxes on Filtch, just a shame they don't work on Peeves. :) "Oh Sarah oh Sarah, oh what have you done. Re: [Audyssey] New game, crazy party and card battle
Michael, Both the French and English versions are inside the zip and are in, Crazy Party beta37.exe. To get the English version you need to run the game file and use your arrow keys to change from français. I hit up arrow to get English, then hit enter. The game does not work well with JAWS. So I turned off JAWS just before running the EXE file. It then defaulted to my SAPI voice. - Original Message - From: "Michael Maslo" To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Monday, May 30, 2016 9:29 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] New game, crazy party and card battle Can someone please me the download for this game for English? Re: [Audyssey] New game, crazy party and card battle
Hi Jacob and Dark, I got it ot work! the sauvegarde.dat file is generate after the language choice. I did unzip a fresh copy, moved to the exe and removed JAWS then hit enter. My SAPI voice came up and I was able to up arrow to English and hit enter. The next screen asked for name and I hit enter, typed in my name, with no voice feedback, then hit enter. The SAPI voice then pronounced my name so I did type it in correctly. I played chase the duck and found it very interesting. I had to use alt f4 to exit as the escape didn't work but at least I can enjoy playing the games. Thanks, for all the help. Ron, I did as you suggested, removing JAWS and my SAPI voice came up speaking French. The up arrow key did nothing. Hitting enter only got more French spoken by the SAPI voice. So no english. Re: [Audyssey] New game, crazy party and card battle
Dark, I should have read this part in the instructions: About the screen readers The game was tested with NVDA, but it should work properly with Jaws. It should also work with System Access, Window Eyes, and maybe even a SAPI voice. The JAWS screen reader is known to interfere with the arrow keys. To overcome this problem, Crazy Party intercepts the keys when this screen reader is detected. Sometimes, however, this does not work well, and if you have trouble, it is recommended to test it with NVDA. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. [Audyssey] audio_drama_about_bob
Hi Folks, I noticed an audio_drama_about_bob on the AudioGames.net Forum by Aaron. It was fantastic. Here is what he said: Some of you wanted an audio version of Dark's story. Well, I had nothing else to do today so in the space of a few hours, I created this audio version with music and sounds, it's voiced by a synth but I hope you still enjoy it. Also, it would be really funny if someone else makes another version because the text story is here on this topic. http://aaron.tdrealms.com/audio/audio_d . ut_bob.ogg So I did one too. http://www.pcs-games.net/bob.mp3 Here is the text by Dark. Okay, lets keep this short and sweet. Once upon a time there was a website that got updated, the end! Oh? what's wrong with that? Oh yes, I forgot all good stories need characters and conflict and plot, and also dinosaurs, and alien invasions, and hoards of zombies, and neuclear apocalypses, and killer robots, and big explosions, and evil gods rising from the dark unknown for world domination. Okay, lets try that again. Once upon a time there was a website called Bob (there, characters!), who was being updated when suddenly an alien attack fleet lead by commander convenience from the planet conflict (there you see, that is clever, it's called meta fiction, see clever clever!). Anyway, the aliens then decimated most of the worlds' population, however a small band of heroes managed to smuggle an old ex soviet era warhead onto their ship which exploded. This was fine, accept the radiation from the exploding ship caused a zombie plague which produced a hoard of flesh eating undead that lived on people's brains. Then, Doctor plot device (again, see the clever?), suddenly realized that dinosaurs had such big brains it'd take the zombies far too long to eat one, so they could be used as zombie bate to lure the undead into convenient locations where the specially designed robot shock troops could eliminate them with their zombie death killing rays of extreme zombie destruction. This plan worked, however what nobody realized was that the hole sequence of events was really the design of a dark god called dark, who was actually writing all this rubbish down in a story just about site updates and had finally got utterly sick of the hole thing so randomly desired to destroy the world for some reason, well just because, you know, destroying the world is a totally unexpected ending. And so everybody lived happily ever after, if by happily you mean obliviously, and if by ever after you mean the space of about two seconds until Dark's evil power of evil made the world explode and everything went boom! Then however Dark felt a little sorry for this, since humanity really isn't all that bad and just decided that it'd all been a joke anyhow, and the planet earth popped back into existence as if none of this had ever happened but with one small change to reality, that website called Bob I mentioned a while ago, well it got updated, - ha! Well the moral of this story is, don't try to write coherently at three in the morning, though at least I can leave everyone with some updates. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Heist - Shine up your .38 Special and get ready for a heist! Whether it's diamonds, cold hard cash, or expensive cars this table rakes in the big bucks! Great sound effects and lots of bonus jobs on the side! . Haunted House - Take a stroll through a graveyard to the old haunted mansion on the hill. Think you're brave enough to spend a night there? It'll take more than nerves of steel to rack up every last ghoulish point this table has to offer! Complete with spooky music and plenty of cobwebs! . Safari - Welcome to the jungle.. now, go home! That is if you can make it home! Explore the thick underbrush and jungle ambience while hunting wild animals and escaping quicksand. If you've got a sharp aim and don't mind mosquitoes the size of Jersey, take an adventure in the wilderness with Busher Bob! . Soccer Star - Take to the stadium field and don't forget your cleats! It's man against machine on the green in this 'goal'-oriented theme. Each round is timed and it's either your goal or theirs! Score for points, more time, and to win! Gatorade not included! . Wild West - Trade in your pinball for a six-shooter and bullets and take down the town's sheriff while escaping the law for horse thieving. And, after you're done taking out the law, stop in the saloon for an ice cold beer or brawl with the locals. . Pac Man - Gobble up points, avoid ghosties, and turn the tables on 'em with mega power-ups in this pinball rendition of the classic game Pac Man.** . Great Ambient Sound Effects . Two Modes of Play: Classic and Accessible . Two difficulty levels: Normal and Insane . Fast-Action Game Play . Cool Music What's New in Version 1.8.0 . At the bottom end towards you is the drain, ie, the place where your ball will go if you don't flip it away, a little like the goal in air hockey. Either side of the drain are two flippers, which are small flat peaces of metal or plastic that flick upwards, and can bounce a ball up the table, (though it'll inevitably roll down). The table itself is full of mechanical apparatus all designed to change how the ball moves and get score. There are pads your ball can roll over to create more score, bumpers to bounce off, spinners that spinn around when your ball hits them, parts of the table that might lower in order to give you access to higher scoring areas etc. The object is to bounce your ball around, making sure it doesn't go down the drain and scoring as much as possible. The esp pinball games for the pc from draconis are a wonderful simulation of pinball and also have great explanations of all the things you can find on tables, as well as some very funny challenges, I'd highly recommend them. I've not played the blindfold version for Ios, though I do intend to, sinse pinball (when you can hear what is happening and track where the ball is going as in the esp games), is a huge amount of fun. hth. [Audyssey] Hadean Lands: Interactive Alchemical Fiction
Thanks to the link in the Get Lamp page, I found, Hadean Lands: Interactive Alchemical Fiction by Zarfhome Software Consulting and Andrew Plotkin, on the App Store. Marooned in an alien, airless wasteland, your starship fractured, your crewmates missing. Can an apprentice alchemist learn how to survive? Hadean Lands is interactive fiction, a classic text adventure. No graphics! No menus! No point-and-click! You type your commands, and read what happens next. This is the most complex puzzle structure I've ever designed. It's the culmination of four years of work. I launched Hadean Lands as a Kickstarter project in 2010; it was a runaway success. Now it's ready for you to play. - Fluid interface designed for comfortable typing and reading. - Full-length puzzle adventure with interlocking alchemical challenges. - Pop-up palette of commonly used commands. - Built-in game map tap to go directly to any explored room. - Journal tab records all the recipes and rituals that you've discovered. - Full support for VoiceOver (speech output) and dictation (speech input) on devices that offer these features. iPhone version: $4.99 https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/hadean-lands-interactive-alchemical/id918958300?mt=8&ign-mpt=uo%3D4 --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Great game for Ios, Nano empire
Christina, It has no music or sounds. This is James Senter's first game. It costs $0.99 USD and he says if he makes any money he will think about adding them. Here is the Apple app link: https://itunes.apple.com/ky/app/nano-empire/id994354970?mt=8 A network of nano robots gives humans godlike power. What will you do with yours? -Create your own world! Build, upgrade, and explore a unique combination of glorious locations. No two worlds are the same! -Wage war against 10 enemy personalities, from giant scorpion matriarchs to ruthless space pirates! -Embark on secret missions, discover dark truths, and take action. Many lives will depend on your choices! An incremental strategy game designed for depth and replayability. No Ads, No In-App Purchases. Accessible with VoiceOver. IMPORTANT NOTE IF USING VOICEOVER: A crash can occur if you press buttons too quickly during combat. Please wait at least 1 second between pressing buttons. TAP THE FIGHT BUTTON SLOWLY! WHEN COMBAT IS ABOUT TO END, WAIT FOR AN ALERT AFTER EVERY TIME YOU TAP A BUTTON, BEFORE TAPPING AGAIN! This bug will be fixed as soon as possible! You start with a blank world, waiting for you to create something. Tap the "Create" button to see the creation menu. There are five locations available for you to create (you might have to scroll). Tap a location to read about it. Once you've picked one, choose "Yes" to create it in your world! You'll see that your location is now producing resources. Before long, you'll be able to use these resources to create more locations! There are four resources in Nano Empire: Energy is used to create and level up locations. Followers are used in a variety of location actions, often to increase resource production. Attack is your strength in offensive combat. Defense is your strength in defensive combat. Each resource has a production value equal to the amount of this resource you produce per second. Increase production by creating and leveling up locations, and by taking certain actions at locations. The main "My World" view shows a list of locations you've created. Tap a location's name to visit that location. A location name turns gray if you can't currently do anything at that location, but you can still visit at any time. Each location increases the production of certain resources and/or provides a special bonus, which you can see in the location's description. Each location also offers unique actions for you to take. Choose an action from the menu and find out what happens! After taking an action, you must wait a while before taking that action again. Select "Level Up" and pay the required energy to level up your location. Leveling up increases the resources produced by that location and unlocks a new action! Before long, enemies will start to notice your world. Tap "Campaign" to see your current enemy's information. The enemy has an Attack and Defense value just like you do. The enemy will attack your world at random intervals, or you can tap "Attack!" to attack the enemy's world. If you attack the enemy, your hit points in battle will be equal to your Attack value, and your enemy's hit points will be their Defense. Vice-versa if the enemy attacks you. In the combat view, your goal is to reduce the enemy's hit points (red) to zero before they reduce yours (blue). To reduce the enemy's hit points, tap the "Fight!" button fast but not too fast! Drumming with multiple fingers is recommended. You can also use the special abilities "Zap" and "Recruit" once per battle. "Zap" consumes 20% of your Energy and reduces your enemy's hit points by the same amount, plus any bonuses you have acquired. "Recruit" consumes 20% of your Followers and adds the same amount to your hit points, plus any bonuses. Beware: enemies sometimes use these abilities as well! If you win a battle, you plunder 2 resources for every enemy hit point you destroyed. If you lose, the enemy plunders 2 resources for every surviving hit point, so it pays to fight as hard as you can even if you are doomed. If you keep losing, don't give up! The enemy can never steal more than half of your resources. Also, if the enemy wins they will grow complacent and their strength will not increase significantly, so you'll be able to get revenge eventually. Finally, keep in mind that attacking and plundering the enemy is a great way to recover lost defense. Once you successfully attack an enemy 5 times, that enemy will be defeated, you will receive a bonus, and a tougher enemy will be revealed! You can keep creating and leveling up locations to make your world more impressive. You can conquer more and more enemies to demand respect in the universe. And maybe a bigger adventure is waiting. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. [Audyssey] The last messages from Thomas Ward
I am devastated that Thomas Ward passed away. I went through my saved messages and found the last few from him I also got this about his games from Thomas Ward's web site: USA Games Interactive http://www.usagamesinteractive.com/ In 1985 USA Games president and founder, Thomas Ward, discovered he had an eye disease called Optic Atrophy. Over the following years the disease damaged his optic nerves leaving Thomas blinded for life. However, prier to losing his vision he had time to enjoy many classic video games including such titles as: Packman, Space Invaders, Double Dragon, Star Wars, Tomb Raider, and more. He dreamed one day to make his own games he himself could play even though he was blind. In the fall of 1997 Thomas Ward entered college at Wright State University located in Dayton Ohio. While at Wright State Thomas began taking courses in computer science. Two of his favorite fields were software design and computer network administration. He knew almost from the beginning he wanted to design software made for people with blindness and other physical disabilities. In the spring of 2004 Thomas ward founded USA Games Entertainment. A privately owned online game company dedicated to making audio games for the blind and low vision driven by sound rather than graphics. His first accessible audio game for Microsoft Windows was Final Conflict, and soon many more were in production as well In the spring of 2006 USA Games took over production of Alchemy Game Studios' Montezuma's Revenge and Raceway projects. Both projects have increased interest in USA Games's products, and have been updated with new features, sound effects, ideas, and have been made better than before. In addition to games USA Games founder, Thomas Ward, has been active in the testing, research, and development of open source accessibility technologies for FreeBSD, Linux, and Solaris operating systems. In the future USA Games plans to target the open source operating systems with games, support, and new access technologies. As well as president and founder, Thomas Ward, USA Games has a wide range of private testers, sound designers, and others who voluntarily help out to improve our products. We look forward to the years to come serving the blind and low vision community with high-quality games and other accessible technologies. From: "Thomas Ward" To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Tuesday, November 10, 2015 5:51 AM Hello everyone, This is a very important message from your friendly neighborhood moderator and list owner to let you know what to expect over the next few weeks. Unfortunately, I have some very bad news to share, and to be frank about it I have held off way too long without saying anything. The news essentially is this. For quite some time my health has been in serious decline. I've been tied up with medical tests, doctor appointments, and other things dealing with my medical situation thus have virtually no time to attend to the Audyssey List, working on writing games, or about anything else outside of my day to day situation. I had intended to promote one or two moderators in my place to look after the list, but unfortunately my life has been so utterly crazy of late I have not even managed to do that. So I hope that all of you can get along and bare with me as it is likely or even possible over the next few weeks this list will not have any hands on moderation or oversight as I go into and out of the hospital for various operations, testing, and so on. If I can I will try and assign a moderator before I go into the hospital, but given the time frame I'm thinking that is doubtful. Plus I would hate to just dump the list on him or her and leave for x amount of time anyway. In any case here is the scoop. Thursday I'll be going into the hospital all day for various tests. The following Tuesday I will be going into the hospital for an operation, and will probably not have internet access for a few days as I recover So I do expect at least a week or so in mid November without a list moderator to look after things here. I Can see that probably won't be a problem, nor am I expecting one, but I thought you all should know Justin case you try to reach me and I am totally unreacha
[Audyssey] update for Aprone
Hi Folks, I read this post from, Neptune January 30, 2016 2016-01-30 23:09:38 While I have been absent from Audiogames for quite some time, since I don't actually play audiogames. I wanted to jump on and read a few pages of this forum topic and put in a update for Aprone. I know you all have been missing his presence on here and any updates on him, and you have been having several problems with swamp requarding server consistency, unanswered questions and complaints. I want to personally apologize for all of that. If any of you don't know or don't remember I am Aprone's wife, Jennifer. I have been dealing with several health related problems since September. While Aprone tried to keep on top of his programming and help me in the beginning, things seemed to take a domino effect around Thanksgiving and eventually pulled him away from his computer. I thank you all for worrying about his disappearance and praying the storms in the US were not hitting us. We didn't get hit badly with any extreme weather, thankfully. However, it took us far too long to notice when the server had went down. I'm sorry about that. My health is doing better but still not perfect. Aprone has been trying this week to catch up as best he can to get to a point where he can continue helping you all with problems. I'm sure you all could guess how many unread emails and missed skype messages he still has to try to dig through. If yours gets lost in the mix or missed please don't take it personally. Sorry to all who were bummed about the Christmas stuff, I'll make sure he has time to up the quests next Christmas. I hope you all are doing well and your 2016's are going good so far. Thanks for being patient with us. Re: [Audyssey] Any news on Thomas?
Welcome back Thomas! I'm so glad you're recovering. I have to say it was a sneekie way to do research on your future game, Mysteries of the Brain Surgeon. You start out in the Doctor's office, and in the next level you travel to the hospital. You encounter infections, cranky nurses, bad food and the dreaded Catheterization. Hope you're released soon so you can start on it! [Audyssey] A Visit from Dick Clark.
A Visit from Dick Clark. by Phil Vlasak. Inspired by Clement Clark Moore. 'Twas the night before New Years, when all through the house, All the creatures were stirring, including a mouse. The noise makers were hung by the TV with care, In hopes that Dick Clark soon would be there; The children were nestled far away from their beds, While visions of Party favors danced in their heads; And mamma with her cow bell, and I in a funny cap, Had just scrambled our brains with Budweiser on tap. When there on the set there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the sofa to see what was the matter. Away to the flat screen I flew like a flash, Picked up the remote and gave the volume a bash. The sign on the set revealed the Rockin' Eve show, Giving the view of Times Square, way down below, When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But the ABC special that we loved so dear. With a young-looking host, so lively and quick, I knew in a moment it must be our Dick. More rapid than eagles his sponsors they came, And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name; "Now, Discover Card, now, Panasonic and Korbel Champagne, And performances by Willow Smith, Jennifer Hudson and Train. To the top of Times Square, to the top of the Ball! Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!" As dry leaves that before the wild confetti, fly, And a Waterford Crystal ball drops in the sky; So up to the building-top the reporters they flew, With co-host Ryan Seacrest and Dick Clark too. And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof The traditional countdown, without any goof. And I heard him exclaim, as the ball dropped so bright, "Happy New Years to all, and to all a good-night." --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. [Audyssey] A Visit from Lycanthrope Claus .
A Visit from Lycanthrope Claus . by Phil Vlasak. Inspired by Clement Clark Moore. The Christmas full moon will be the 1st since 1977... 'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house, Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. The garlic was hung by the chimney with care, In hopes that werewolf Claus would not be there. The children were nestled shivery in their beds, While visions of glowing red eyes danced in their heads. And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap, Had just settled our brains for a long winter's nap. When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash. The full moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow, Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below. When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But an enormous sleigh, and eight giant reindeer. With a large old driver, with whiskers and paws, I knew in a moment it must be Lycanthrope Claus. More rapid than bats his coursers they came, And he barked, and howed, and called them by name. "Now, Thrasher! now, Smasher! now, Rupture and Vixen, On, Vomit! on, Stupid! on, Dopey and Blitzen! To the top of the porch, up the side of the wall, Now jump away, jump away, jump away all!" As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky, So up to the house-top the coursers they flew, With the sleigh full of bones, and a werewolf Claus too. And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof, The prancing and pawing of each large hoof. As I drew in my head, and was turning around, Down the chimney Lycanthrope Claus came with a bound. He was covered all in fur, from his head to his foot, And his claws were all coated with blood and soot. A bundle of bones he had flung on his back, And he looked like a murderer just opening his sack. His tail, how harry! his fangs, how scary! His whiskers were like needles, eyes red as a cherry! His droll long snout had drawn out as it grew, And the fur of his chin was as brown as the stew. The stump of an arm he held tight in his teeth, And its blood it encircled his head like a wreath. He had a broad face and a large round belly, That shook when he growled, like a bowlful of jelly. He was chubby and plump, a hair-raising werewolf, And I screamed when I saw him, in spite of myself. A glance of his eye and a twitch of his tail, Soon gave me to know I had everything to faille. He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work, But at the sound of my gun he turned with a jerk. While pulling my finger back on the trigger, The silver bullet hit as he leaped at my figure. He crashed out the window while his team gave a whistle, And away they flew at the sound of my pistol. But I heard him exclaim, as he fell out of sight, "Cause those damn reindeer left me, I'll give them a good bite!" --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. These dice will be usable with a wide variety of RPG games and would be both functional for blind players and a great novelty item for sighted RPG players interested in being inclusive. We've printed sample models using the model that we're looking at buying and we're pretty happy with the way they turned out. We have already shown we are committed and capable of helping the blind community join gaming with our last Kickstarter that let us open our store. What we need now is enough capital to make our dream of doing the same for RPG dice come true. But if you don't trust me, here's video of with a blind person trying them for the for the first time. embed/khJf863lvqQ frame embed/khJf863lvqQ frame end What about stretch goals? We wanted to limit the number of dice as rewards because our 3d printer can only do so much so fast so our planned stretch goals are for other devices so we could produce other things concurrently instead of backing up the line. Our first one is to get a CNC router at $5000. When we reach this level all backers of full sets of dice will receive their choice of a free Blind Meeple or d20 dice bag with their pledge. The CNC router will let us add what we are calling a Tactile Tactic Grid. This is a 12 inch by 12 inch wooden grid with raised lines. This would allow blind players to do tactical play of games like DnD or Pathfinder without worry of knocking over the pieces. These pieces fit together allowing players to build bigger grids that can break down easily. Tactile grid for RPG games render Tactile grid for RPG games render Tactile grid for RPG games render Additionally it let us add a new reward level for a wooden or plastic version of the game YOINK (we will have to decide AFTER the Kickstarter what material makes the best game when we can try it) that we did for our first Kickstarter and braille puzzle piece blocks which teachers can fit together to teach dot locations. Early Render of Yoink Early Render of Yoink Early Render of Yoink If we reach that we have other ideas as well. Any funds beyond what is needed for the printer will be going back into the company to offer more games and get more tools to make more products. We are also interested in other suggestions for dice that we could add to the project such as fudge dice for RPGs that use them or other ideas. We also have social stretch goals that are shown below. What is with the tiers? 3D printing takes a long time. We wanted to make sure we weren't expected to ship out all of the materials at the same time so we divided the rewards into tiers with different delivery months to make it more manageable. We will be trying to produce the dice in roughly backing order and ship them out as soon as they are done. Since we are manufacturing in house that means we'll start shipping rewards as soon as we get the printer ordered and working. Also you will notice that the tiers are limited. We didn't want to super fund and have to make thousands of dice if somehow this went really viral. If you miss the Kickstarter we will of course have these available at our store but that will only be after all the Kickstarter dice are produced. [Audyssey] Hello Barbie, new talking doll
Hello Barbie Release date: November 10, 2015 Chat with Barbie for a whole new way to play! Hello Barbie doll uses WiFi and speech recognition technology to engage in two-way dialogue! Use is simple with functionality built into her belt buckle -- press to start the conversation and release to hear Hello Barbie doll respond. Just like a real friend, Hello Barbie doll listens and adapts to the user's likes and dislikes with 8,000 lines of conversation. Words: 55,806 This is a US only product. The Hello Barbie companion app can only be found in US app stores. Hello Barbie is simply one of the most innovative dolls on the market. She's amazing, smart, and so much fun. I've spent over 5+ hours talking and playing with her. I really recommend her; although, there is a downside to this doll. Recently, she's been running into some problems. At first, it was minimal and happened once or twice. But today, it got worse. During our little conversation, she stops mid-sentence and goes, "Something's not working right. Talk to you later!" That's all she says now; even after I deleted and made a new Toy Talk account, and even after a factory reset. The instructions are straightforward, explaining what different light patterns stand for. Magnetic feet keep the doll upright on the charging stand, aided by the fact that nothing below the shoulders moves on this doll. The user's birthday can be added and preferred holidays specified in the mobile app. A PDF list of everything the doll is programmed to say is on the Mattel site: http://hellobarbiefaq.mattel.com/what-does-hello-barbie-say/ On the bright side, if you have great wifi, you can go hours and hours talking with her. Another little issue, though, is that she gets on the repetitive side. When we start a new convo, she brings up games we've played, talked about careers we've been over, and is a little bad at speech recognition. The suggested distance for talking with her is 12inches away from your face, but in order to get a better response I hold her 2-3 inches away from my face. Back to our talks: She will bring up old convos that we have had, and will ask the same questions. It gets a little annoying, since we're paying $75 for her. The next thing is posability. From the waist down, she as stiff as a tree. She seems to have a jointed mold on both her knees. From the waist up, she has normal posability, like other Barbies. She has a new elbow mold; she has double jointed elbows (If you collect Monster High, HB has elbows like Gooliope Jellington.) She's jointed in the neck, shoulders, elbows and wrist. Her shoes are molded on. Her pants are sewn onto her; they cannot be removed (also because of her belt, which is also un-removable.) Her shirt is also un-removable, but she has velcro to allow information on the back (I think that's why it's like that, lol) Her hair is really really soft and semi-curly. I was hoping her hair would be more curly, like in the promo pictures, but I guess it's what we get. In the end, she's a very fun doll. Just be careful when purchasing her, and definitely get the protection plan (if offered.) The doll mostly leads the user through a variety of playful games or stories. Going off-script doesn't work very well. If the user goes off-topic, the doll will react as though it didn't understand what was said. Repeat a new topic that the doll is likely to understand (such as "fashion"), and it'll switch to a game, story, or conversation on that topic. Another way to switch topics is to just reboot the doll with the power button on the right hip. Overall, it's lightly amusing for grown ups (hearing a doll say that it has lost wifi connection is funny -- it won't have much to say without wifi) and enthralling for the right kind of child. The biggest technological danger is probably from malicious hackers, not Mattel or Toy Talk, so be sure to set up good passwords on your wifi and Toy Talk account! Re: [Audyssey] Bug in the Sarah Game.
Lori, It has been a while since I programmed the game. The diselutionment charm only keeps the creatures from seeing you or attacking you. If you bump into them, they will still scare you and take your energy. There is a document in the folder that lists all the magic items and where they are located. I think I named it either scw-walk-through.txt or Sarah-walk-through.txt On the dungeon level There is a total of 5 Goals: potion1, potion3, cloak, headless hat, broom1 spoiler space Potions classroom, potion Potion professor's office, old potions book Potion professor's private store, potion dungeon, invisibility cloak Slytherin common room, broom, headless hat - Original Message - From: "loriduncan" To: Sent: Wednesday, November 18, 2015 3:43 AM Subject: [Audyssey] Bug in the Sarah Game. Hi guys, I've been playing the Sarah game and when I was in the dungens, although I have the potions book, the broom and the cloak, the game still tells me there are magical objects to find. What am I missing? I was wondering if the broom cupboard should have a broom, but if so it's not showing up. Also I've noticed 2 of the 3 statues on the ground floor seem to be bugged as they don't lead anywhere when I go through them. I hit the w key and I'm told I'm either in a class room, or the ground floor corridor, but I can't go anywhere and have to apperate out. There was also a wierd thing when I cast the diselutionment charm while in the large dungen with all the food. I had Sarah say the spell, and got passed nick and Peeves no problem, but then Bins showed up on the staires and seemed to see through it as I lost some energy, that's a really freeky voice to hear at midnight on a cold winter's night by the way lol. The charm was still active as I could hear the music still playing, but he still got me. :( Is anyone else having these issues? Hi Charlse. To be honest I do the same, and so long as you mention the name of the ap and the developer searching the ap store should be fine. The reason that audiogames.net doesn't include ap store links on the database the way there are download links to pc games, is that ap store links are country specific. I have had it happen i click on the Us ap store link and am told to "search the Uk ap store" which makes them a bit pointless to pass around on major international sites and mailing lists and between people of different countries. Sinse audiogames.net is intended to be for everybody around the world it makes sense just to give correct search and developer info and then let everyone find it in their native ap stores, (assuming it's available there). So personally I'd suggest anyone looking for an ap just make sure you have the right name and developer info and do a search, though of course that does make it %100 necessary to mention not just the ap name, but what the developers are called in the ap store itself. Hi Josh, Unfortunately Jim Kitchen wrote most of his Windows games in Visual Basic 6, and I am only familiar with GW basic for DOS and the GMA game engine formats. Re: [Audyssey] New book from NBP: Anyone Can Play
Here is a podcast about this book: iOS Gaming with Judy Dixon Monday, June 15th, 2015 In this brief but information filled podcast, Allison and Robert speak with Judy Dixon about a new book describing 41 accessible games that are available to be played on an Apple iOS device. The book is called "Anyone Can Play: Accessible Games for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch" and is available from National Braille Press Get yourself a copy of this book and never be bored again. http://www.dr-carter.com/?cat=1 - Original Message - From: "Phil Vlasak" To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Wednesday, June 17, 2015 2:37 PM Subject: [Audyssey] New book from NBP: Anyone Can Play Anyone Can Play: Accessible Games for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, edited by Judith Dixon, $12.00 USD with contributions by Nallym Bravo, Ciaran and Coal Corby, Judy Dixon, Janet Ingber, and Atty Svendsen. Not long ago, the only games available to a braille reader were a deck of braille cards and a few expensive board games. Gloriously, the iPhone has brought us all manner of portable accessible diversions - from word puzzles to fantasy adventures. And anyone can play, no experience required! A host of blind gamers have put together their favorite accessible iDevice game apps; they tell you how they work and what it takes to win! The book is divided into seven chapters: 1. Competitive Games: This chapter describes the Game Center that can be found on every iDevice and a few games that can be played against others through the Game Center. 2. Word Games: These are games based on words or letters. It features games that provide clues to either guess or construct the word. 3. Card Games: These are mostly traditional card games, ranging from many types of solitaire games to multiplayer games. In the multiplayer games, the game can simulate opponents, or you can play against real opponents. 4. Adventure Games: These are games where the player is presented with a scenario and can interact with the world by issuing commands or by making choices. 5. Strategy Games: For the most part, these are traditional puzzles and board games requiring a strategic approach to accomplish the object of the game. 6. Role-Playing Games: In these games, the player chooses a character with certain traits. The player communicates with others assuming the traits of the chosen character. 7. Sports Games: These are action games, many of which will have you out of your chair and moving around to play the game as a single player or against an opponent.
