Hi list.

Anybody have any tips for Castaways, mission 6?
My people starve faster than I can feed them.

Even when I set everybody to fishing, except the cook.

[Audyssey] Swamp questions.

Hi list.
Is there a way to pause Swamp when playing multiplayer?
Also, how do you save your character so it doesn't lose all its 
equipment when you log off outside the safe zone.
I read the read me file, and looked on the forums on the audio games web 
site, but there's over 7000 posts on swamp alone.

That makes it rather hard for me to find what I'm looking for.

I'm looking for the imp mines in Altar Aeon.
When I first started playing it was on the mainland, then it was moved 
to Kordan, then it was moved again and I never found it again.
I'm not asking for the exact location, just the Island or what ever area 
it was moved to.

a mine shaft. It is currently boarded up, and the rotting timbers lead

but when I use the updater its, I cant download the update from the server.

Thanks, it seems to be an issue with the sound pack.
When I log in using quick connect I don't have the problem, but I don't
have sounds either.
I guess I'll have to play that way, to bad, I really like the sounds.
I had the same problem on my old XP machine.
I'm using windows 7 64 bit.

it happens with the alt+letter and the keypad
Like I said, I had the same problem on XP home, 32 bit, and now on 
Windows 7 64 bit/
I remapped the direction keys on the keypad with go north, go east, and 
so on.
It lets me move around, but I prefer to use the Alt_letters, but it 
still doesn't work that way

Thanks, it seems to be an issue with the sound pack.
When I log in using quick connect I don't have the problem, but I don't 
have sounds either.

I guess I'll have to play that way, to bad, I really like the sounds.
I had the same problem on my old XP machine.
I'm using windows 7 64 bit.

Thanks for the information on how to drive the train, but I already knew 
that.
My problem is I'm only able to move a short distance in either direction, 
then I hit something.

At least that's what I think is happening.
I think I need to couple up some cars or switch tracks, but it doesn't seem 
to work like it says in the readme file.

Well spursim had to many controls.
check all the breaks are off, and that you are not reversing.
you then need to advance the throttle and regulater if you have one 
slowly.

Listen to the pitch of the train.
If you over or under rev then you won't be going far fast.
Try to get a speed of 50-70, remember the cut off is 80, if you can get to 
80 or 75 or 8 or as close to 80 as you can without overshooting then thats 
fine but if you try to go over 80 then you stop.

Hi list.
Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug?
I wall in a section of land using different terrain features such as forests 
and so on, and the enemy still appears inside my defenses.
This happens on both missions three and four.

If that's the case, then to me walls are almost not worth messing with.
I mean what's the point in building a decent defensive perimeter if the 
enemy is just going to  pop up inside it.

It may not be a bug, enemies can show up on the outer edge of the map, no

I don't normally join in on these discussions, but I've been wondering.
I hear people say that the blind gaming community is small, and there is 
only so much money to be made on blind games.
What I want to know is, is there a reason a blind developer couldn't try to 
team up with sighted developers and make games that both sighted and blind 
can play?
If it could be done, the blind developer might make more money, and might 
even educate people on what blind people really need and want.

Not what the sighted think the blind need.
Just my two cents, if I'm making any sense at all.

manpower and financial resources.
For example, lets compare Shades of Doom to Doom 3.  Can they compare?

Well, for an audio game Shades of Doom is a pretty good game, is
pretty close to Doom 1, but it took David Greenwood quite some time to
put it together and release it. That is just trying to create
something equal to the technology of 15 years ago. However, as I
recall it took ID Software two or three years to produce Doom 3 with
an entire team of software developers working on it full time.  We
can't reasonably expect our accessible game developers to compete with
that kind of product unless we have the same kind of financial budget,
same number of skilled developers etc. It just isn't going to happen
in this life time bro.

If I understand correctly from the web site, this game is only supposed to 
work wit an Intel processor.
If that's the case, I just wanted to let you know it is working on aAMD 
machine.

Other than being tied to a computer's hardware, I really like this game.
I'm not complaining, you have to do what you have to do to protect against 
piracy.

The beta team came up with two more land-based units: artillery and 
armoured personnel transport.  Due to the recommendations coming late in 
the testing, it was decided to wait until the multi-player version was 
released to include these. Instead we gave armour most of the benefits 
that artillery would have such as the ability to bombard cities and 
sea-based units.  You can currently fortify your cities by either 
maintaining several infantry or armoured units within a city, or keeping a 
battleship their as protection.


Personally, I don't think of battles being either land or sea-based, since 
to win anything other than a complete land battle, both types of units are 
required to work together.  Armour can bombard passing ships, battleships 
can bombard land-based units,  troop transports carry land-based units 
from land to land, armour and infantry can be drowned at sea, ships are 
built on land, and fighter aircraft can travel over either land or sea.


I am happy to see you understood that you do not need any great spacial or 
map reading abilities.  The problem for some people new to TOC is that 
they feel they need to understand everything about the lay of the land, 
and for the most part, you really don't need to.  A few weeks ago I was 
playing a game and near the end I realized that for the entire game I had 
a completely wrong view of the map in my mind, but since you command units 
by distance and access, it didn't really matter--I won anyway.  Many years 
ago, someone challenged me with a game idea.  That is to produce a game 
for the blind where you need to control hundreds of pieces over a huge 
map.  At the time, I thought it was nearly impossible, but the idea sat 
there waiting for a solution. Over a year ago it came to me how this could 
be done, and that is when TOC was conceived.

Sure.  The game is available on the Interactive Fiction Archive.  Go to
www.ifarchive.org, navigate to the games/pc directory, and there'll be a
file named fallthru.zip.  That's the game.  The one thing which might
confuse you is that the ifarchive links aren't quite as friendly as they
might be.  They all start with ifarchive on every page.  So it'll be
something like if-archive/games, and on the next page
ifarchive/games/pc

F5 will take you to a list of available fleets, arrow to the one you want.
Then hit alt+F for the fleet menu, then the letter S.
Arrow to the spot on the map you want to go to and hit enter.

One thing which might help this situation of having to remember the
order of columns is if Hal has any way to assign a custom highlight
attribute or something similarly worded.  The selected item is usually
highlighted in a different color from all the rest.

I want to try the game fallthru , but when I go to the download site that's on 
audio games I get the message sorry the site is down for system maintenance, 
please try back later. or words to that affect.

If you are using Jaws, use say all instead of highlighted.
I have the same problem if I use any version of jaws higher than 7.0.
With Jaws 8.0 and above I can read the yearly reports wit Jaws key plus B.
I can also read it using the jaws cursor.

If the turn files are indeed interoperable between the two versions that
would be ideal.  I've taken to using Linux lately for all my computing
and gaming needs, and discovered a way to make the Dos version's map
usable for me under that platform.  Meanwhile, the Windows version
refuses to display any of the yearly reports, which makes news among
other things difficult to read.  So there we are.  I'll thank anybody
who can explain why that particular problem exists, but I don't hold out
much hope since it seems to be unique to me.

I have the same problem with combo boxes.
The way I get around it is, when in forms mode, route the jaws cursor to PC, 
then route PC to Jaws.

That lets me arrow through the choices.

yeah the installer is showing as a virus for most av scanners

night of parasite 3.1 installer is avalible on dropbox.
warning! this is far from perminant.
Due to testing with mainly pkb and other things the dropbox is quite full, 
if the size goes over 2gb I will start deleting things, so be warned the 
public file is not perminant by any means.

however note that since this is a remote system its not going to stay up 
all day, and its not always going to be up.

the system on whilst in the house.

but if not in the house or away for a long time the system goes off.
I may be doing repair work on other computers, with no active connection.
if someone wants to host this perminantly then go nock yourselves out.
The installer is part of the file, so  go nuts with the code.

[Audyssey] Games for Windows Mobile 6.1.

Hi list.
I recently got A T-mobile Dash 3G with windows mobile 6.1.
I tried the games for windows mobile from Braillesoft.
They either don't work, or lock up my phone.
I think they were made for windows mobile 5.0.
Does anybody know of any other games that might work on windows 6.1?

[Audyssey] A legal question about muds.

If I got some source code for a mud, and the creator says I can't use it, and 
this code is based on diku and merc.
If I remember right the diku license says that any works derived from that code 
must remain available to the public, or words to that effect?
Can I use it?

[Audyssey] Legend mud down?

a message saying Connection timed out.

How do you repair SAPI from the windows XP CD?
I've tried all the suggestions mentioned on this list, all accept using a 
restore point.
My SAPI hasn't been working right for so long I don't think I have a restore

Here is another fix that I was told about.  Not sure if it is actually

correct the control panel entries for Sapi.


Another thing that you can do is to use the Windows XP restore feature to

Well, most of the time I am able to guess when to fire without using the 
built in targeting solution. I find being able to figure that out on my 
own comes in handy in some seriously tight situations. My favorite tactic 
is to take on the destroyers when they are actively hunting me. For 
example, take mission 2. To be honest I find that mission a bit boring 
because taking out the destroyer guarding the oil  platforms is a piece of 
cake to sink. So to make the mission more interesting I will get his 
attention by flashing my radar, sonar, or something to let him know I am 
out there. Then, I basically try and out fox him in a one on one battle. I 
rarely loose on level 5 up against a single destroyer in a one on one 
fight. Though, I am speaking of the regular Lonewolf enemy destroyers. the 
ones I created for the Lonewolf Midway Island mission are real tough guys. 
Don't try and take one of those on in a one on one fight.

[Audyssey] Eamon and the A2 immolator.

Has anybody tried running eamon in the A2 immolator?
It's supposed to be the most screen reader friendly immolator out of several in 
the EAG_90F.rar file you can get from Frank Kunze site.
It's a large file, 171 Mb, but it has allot of stuff related to Eamon.
Right now I'm trying to figure out how to run .dsk files in the immolator
So far no luck..

I got it installed and configured for text mode.
But it's so slow . I waited a half hour for it to read the intro screen and 
it still didn't finish.

Is there any way to speed it up?

I don't buy audio games anymore because developers are tying them to your 
system.
If you have to reformat, or replace your hard drive you have to send in for 
a new key.
That can get to be a pain after a while.
Most people I talk to feel the same way.

 The reason that there are so few audio games being released is because
 very few people buy them, or even download the free audio games.

 I think it was Che sometime last year who was lamenting that his game,
 which has been spoken of well by people who play it, hadn't been
 downloaded as much as he'd hoped. And his game is free.

 As Thomas has said, programming games ain't easy. Even if you are doing it
 for free, it takes a lot of effort. (Though Jim Kitchen seems to have
 found the sweet spot as far as designing games that can actually get
 finished.)

 And if you are trying to keep a company afloat, you go where the money is.
 Otherwise your electricity gets cut off.

 On a positive note, here are some things you can do to make more audio
 games get built:

 1. Buy some yourself.
 2. Download free audio games and email thanks to their developer.
 3. If you like a game, mention it to your friends.
 4. Likewise, mention it to your library or schools.

 Supply will increase or decrease to meet demand.

[Audyssey] Looking for free web browser based game code.

Hi list.
I'm looking for free MMORPG code or any other type of web browser game code as 
long as the game is accessible.
I have 2 windows 98 machines setting here doing nothing, and I want to put A 
web browser based game on one of them, and if I can find a version of Linux 
that will work on older machines I want to run a mud on the other.
I already have the mud code I want to run, but I need some web based code.
If or when I get them up and running I'll post what types of games they are, 
and how to connect for anybody who's interested.

If you don't already have them, go to www.gutterstar.net and get the scripts 
for Gmud.
While you are there you might want to check out the java mud client and it's 
scripts.
I like it better than Gmud and find it easier to use than monkeyterm.

I replaced all the sounds in the sound folder and I still get the chip-monk 
sounding units.
Anybody else have the same problem?

I downloaded it after you posted to the list that the new pack was up.
I'll download it again, remove soundRTS and make sure all soundRTS folders 
are gone from program files and reinstall it. Then I'll try the pack again.
Maybe I missed a folder and put it in the wrong one.

[Audyssey] Soundmud.

Hi list.
Has anybody gotten Soundmud to work?
I downloaded and installed all the files in the read me, but still cant get 
it to work.
It tells you the files you need to run it but not how to start the game.
