Hi Gary,
Vista's user account control is customisable, but at the moment I can't
remember the program that controls that. I want to say secpol, but not sure.
Anyway there are different levels you can set user account control to
like: automatically elivate, don't elivate, prompt for password, and
Hi Raul,
Thanks for that little tidbit. I know in my own screen reader project I
am having to make exceptions for the way Vista does things so i
completely understand what GW Micro had to go through to convert Window

Hi Gary,
That error you are recieving is indicative of a missing DX8VB.dll file
which I have mentioned many times does not ship with Windows Vista. You
have to get it from somewhere else and drop it in
c:\Windows\System32
in order to get games like Ten Pin Alley to work.

Hi Shaun,
I know that. That is one reason you can disable or bypass UAC when
applications in that case don't register themselves properly with the os.
Actually, I think BSC's trouble is with the software they packed their
games with. If Troopenum was a stand alone VB 6 game it would be fine.
How
Hi Blind Guy,
Officially, GW Micro says no. You need 6.1 or higher. However, that
probably is not taking in to account weather user account control is
active or not.
I know when GW Micro worked on Window Eyes 6.1 they had to do some stuff
to make it cooperate with user account control. However,
tom Even with xp even with some newer progs and data files these
still do not have security digital sigs.

Hi Blind Guy,
Yes you can. They all work under Vista. It is just that some games need
a little work around to make them run properly as in the case of Pipe 2
and Troop 2.
However, once issues are solved Vista is a good gaming platform. It is
just as good a gaming platform as XP once you know how

Hi Blind Guy,
Generally, speaking most accessible games run well under Vista without
issue. Especially, if you supply the latest DirectX patches for Monty
and Raceway, and copy the DX8VB.dll and DX7VB.dll for older VB6 games.

Hi Blind Guy,
Well, those files can be found all kinds of places on the web, and some
game installers such as Sarah and the Castle of Witchcraft and Wizardry,
Jim Kitchen's Winkit, GMA Tank Commander, will automatically install
those files if they are missing.
Ironically, according to the Direct
Hi Shaun,
Well, it is a difference between playing the games and not playing.
Allot of this could be solved if Justin would digitally sign his
software, but to do that he needs some newer software. To do that he'd
have to upgrade his games.

This is really neat, this little document. But what if someone did not
have access to an xp computer, and needed those 2 dll's, would it be
possible to put those up on usgames.us, so people can get them from
therer if they need these 2 dll's?
