Re: [Audyssey] Q

2009-12-20 Thread Jim Kitchen

Hi Thomas,

Yes, but that was before the GMA list. It was on the Audyssey list. And was
much more than being open to suggestions. Like you said David Greenwood put
out alpha versions of Shades of Doom and asked for direction from the list as
to what the game should be and play like. It really was a group collaboration
as to what people wanted to see in the game. Of course he picked what he
wanted to implement into the game. Still not my kind of game. I pretty much
like the kind of games that I have produced. You know card games, board games,
sports games etc.

[Audyssey] Q

2009-12-19 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Jim,
Oh, yeah. i remember that. Shades of Doom was really the first fully
accessible First Person Shooter for the blind. I was quite impressed
when it came onto the seen, and the fact he let us test the Alpha
version of the game. Up until then all I could find is card and puzzle
games, text adventures, which were not the kinds of games I normally
played before I lost my sight. Anway, I joined the GMA list primarily
because David Greenwood was more open with what he was doing than some
of the others who were making games then.

Jim Kitchen wrote:

Hi Yohandy,

It didn't used to be this way. I blame it all on David Greenwood.
grin Back when it was PCS Games and me, we would put out games and
people would play and comment on them. But then in 1999 - 2000 David
Greenwood was working on the first accessable first person shooter
game. He asked on list for suggestions and comments. It became a
group effert. Every since then it is like all accessible games are
group efferts. Not that it is all bad, I mean I have added lots of
features and tweeks to my games from the suggestions of others. Oh
yeah that game by the way was Shades of Doom.

[Audyssey] Q Nine Instructions

It's in the Q9 folder on the Start Menu. It's just called Manual. That's

That would be Core Exiles. I tried it for a while but I sort of lost
interest in it. You might try Sryth at www.sryth.com if you haven't already.
It's accessible, has a lot of content and at only 20 bucks a year for a full
account it's well worth it. And if you want you can donate extra money to
the game, even if it happens to be ten dollars here and there. But again
that's completely up to you. But you do get rewards for donating even ten
dollars to the game. Some might regard this as the gamemaster being greedy
but frankly I can totally understand. For one thing Sryth is actually his
job, and I do mean that literally. And in any case he doesn't hold a virtual
gun to your head and say donate or else! The decision is still completely
up to you as to whether or not you do donate. True some content is only
available if you've accomplished certain feats in the game (such as buying a
grand residence), which are sometimes made easier through donations. but if
you really wanted to and were really determined you could go without
donating and still get the most out of it.

Re: [Audyssey] Q Nine Instructions

2009-12-14 Thread dark

hi Bill.

No problem. you can search the audiogames.net database by genre,
including rpg, which might help.

Core exiles is imho one of the best accessible online games ever, and
certainly a favourite of mine, but I won't embark on a major discussion
here. It's a complex game but worth getting into, with many things to do,
friendly players and no pvp.

You can also try Sryth, Kingdom of loathing, Twilight heros Warriors 2 or
metroplexities, all of which are worth a play, and the links to all may
be found in the audiogames.net database.

Metroplexities is particularly fun I think, especially it's battle
system.

There are probably others I've forgotten about, --- -but really there are
many out there!

If you ask for personal opinion I'd say the best of the bunch are core
exiles, Sryth, Metroplexities and kingdom of loathing.

Oh bill, you might also like smugglers 3 and 4 from

These are stand alone single player games which use text and have you click
on things, but after S3 was found to be accessible, specifically screen
reader orientated compatibility features were added into S4 (remember to
activate the compatibility mode in the options screen before playing).

These are great single player space games, I'm not sure if you'd call
them rpgs in the traditional sense, but certainly worth trying.

Once again, see their index pages on audiogames.net for more details.
