I remember both worms and lemmings, having played both cooperatively with friends who were pretty big fans of the game. I'm not sure about the 2D interface, sinse it very much required lots of overview, but something with an overview map in the manner of Toc I see as eminantly possible,

I call it 2D since while you didn't move directions like north, south east and west, you did move up down, left and right. Reason specifically liked things like worms is that they're more short term/time games - so at the end of a session, it's done with and you can start another one to play
