Re: [Audyssey] baloon fight
Hi Nicol, Honestly, I have no idea what that sound stands for. I have never played that game myself. To be rather canded it wasn't the kind of game I would have played when I was sighted. I was usually into walk along beat-m-ups like Castlevania, Double Dragon, Legend of Kage, Bad Dudes, Batman Return of the Joker, Ninja Turtles, and things like that. In other words games with plenty of fighting and wall to wwall combat and action. My friends and I would have viewed something like Baloon Fight as down right childish back then. Understand when that game came out I was a preteen or teenager by then. So I played whatever my friends were into mostly. To pick up a game like Baloon fight would have gotten me laughed at and put down by my peers. Baloon Fight would have been looked at as too childish, and no one at that age wants to be picked on by his/her peers for playing a game. Naturally, I'm older now, my views have changed, but I don't have any experience with the game to help you with it. Cheers! Re: [Audyssey] baloon fight
Though I never owned a nes, my dad did once get one of these compilation things that plugged into the tv, and baloon fight was the game I played most on it, it reminded me slightly of joust, but was more interesting given the extra enemies and bonuses, also the fact you had more hits than in joust. As an interesting fact I actually think packma n talks or dynaman is more fun than the original packman, sinse you can only get a litle of the maze presented to you in 3D at once, which makes it far more an exploration game than the original graphical game. Re: [Audyssey] baloon fight
hmmm the bgt folder has a blast a balloon game. I guess with arrows etc it could be possible. I imagine this as baloons come at you at different speeds, and you have to centre them and shoot as many as you can or get a sertain number per level. Potentually you could have blank empty ones ones filled with water etc with different sounds. In addition if you get hit with something like water or shaving cream you may fall over if you get hit with hmm a bee or hot sause you loose a life or something. it sounds interesting to be sure. I'd definately want to play it if you want to program that in bgt I'd actually play that. You can put any sound in the balloon, ie you could well put glass just for sfx. Or you could miss and hit something else like a window at random or something. Obviously we will leave people out of that, but I guess if you burst a balloon in their face or near buy you could give them a fright they would jump and then they would hit their head. Ofcause being a non violent game I was imagining a cartoon boing. THat would be bad though because they would try to burst a balloon at your head causing you to jump and you would have to run. There are all sorts of ideas you could do for this. And then if I go left or right further I die. But if I pressed the joystick up or right I was ok. Does anybody know why that was the case? I loved the sound effects in balloon fight. Sorry guys, I prefer sendspace as I can use the sendspace wizard and this is a tiny file. Sorry shaun, but my keyboard records the stuff in wave and this file is only 601 kb. Re: [Audyssey] baloon fight
Hi Nicol, Yes, BGT definitely could create a simple arcade game like Baloon fight. BGT is a fairly capable audio game development tool and because it is scripted I'd say there are very few games it could not create. The ability or power of the engine is mostly in the hands of the developer and his/her skill level. Other than that the sky is the limit. As for copyrights I don't see a real problem with copyrights. Generally simple arcade games like that aren't heavily copyright protected, and if you are worried about copyrights make a few miner changes that would make your own version a little different from the original. For example, instead of calling the game Baloon Fight call it Battle Baloons or Baloon Bomber or something like that. Right there you are stating to the original copyright holders you are trying to respect their copyrights by not using their trademark or copyrighted name brand. You are branching off and making a similar game that isn't 100% like the original. You can get creative and add extra bonus levels or special items for doing this or that in the game. You don't have to create an exact copy of the game to get the same sort of enjoyment out of it. In fact, I've found that it is sort of more fun being able to add to or update certain things in the game that the original didn't have. For example, James North started off with a simple game idea like Packman, and ended up creating Dynaman instead. Dynaman has the exact same kind of fun and entertainment as Packman, but it is also fun in its own right because there are a number of things in the game that makes it a little more unique than just another Packman clone. Personally, its a toss up weather I like Dynaman by Draconis Entertainment or Packman Talks by PCS Games more. They are both good games, and are unique enough that there is no reason I wouldn't happily buy both.
