I'll add slightly to that. You have keys based on wasd for directions,
so x for south etc, and r for up and f for down. It takes a good bit of
practice, but hey, that's easily fixed with a bit of RP and people
taking new players on missions and things, which does happen.

Cheers

Dave

Ok. Here we go, I'll try to explain this. It told you in the
tutorial, but hopefully I can explain this.

When you want to fight something, move to the enemy. So, M and then
pick the number.

When you get within one unit of them, type track. Pick the number,
and you'll start tracking. Depending on what target tracking array
you have installed on your ship, you might lose your track. If you
look at your status, you'll see that the stock target array will only
keep track of your targets 75 percent of the time. THis can be
upgraded with better arrays.

Once you've got the enemy tracked, type aim or, if using
coords, aim aim. Once you've got your lock, you just fire.

I think it takes some time to get used to it, as it's not the same as
promotheus and miriani. As to needing a pack, you can try to do it
without one, but I think it's needed for this game. It's up to you.
Just use lockmode to change your preferred aiming method.

Mike.

I was! actually fighting rats when I got hit. I also don't know what
you mean by "vector based combat" I was trying! to aim with the
directions like 7 for north and + for up, but it didn't seem to work
whenever I tried to aim up, also actually finding where the dam rat
was to attack it was a struggle sinse scanning took such a long time

An explanation of how combat might work against a rat might help, eg,
do you target first and then track? or do you do the track command?
and when is scan useful?

Hi dark,

Do you have one of the sound packs? That helps because you don't
have all
the extra talking of unimportant text? Secondly, don't use
coordinate based
combat. Use vector combat. What that is hit the number 7 to aim
northwest
or 9 for northeast etc. as a new pilot do space combat with a group.
As a
new pilot none of your ships are strong enough to do a single
beacon. As
someone new learn to fly in manual mode stick to rats ground combat
salvage

etc.

I plan on art art to play again and would be willing to help out.

To be totally honest if you are trying to do space combat without a sound
pack is quite hard. X The reason I say that is because there was so much so

extremely hard to catch up with what you need to be here in tim

With a psalm pack, you will hear only we are the enemy is which makes
aiming for tracking then aiming a shooting a lot faster a lot easier and a
lot more manage also said with a sound pack things just one more smoothly.
If you're fighting with rats is probably the easiest thing as a newbie you
can do. If you were doing Vector combat, that would mean if you heard the
rat to your north you hit eight and enter. So that is what it sounded like
you were doing.

I like star conquest, however at times in my opinion it could be very

I think when playing again you have to remember not everyone has the
same background so you should thin about that before judging them on
spelling and things. The most important thing is to try. Next thing is
if your gamers have issues and you want peoople to enjoy and play your
game you will do everything you can to make a wonderful experience for
everyone. At least this is the model I would follow.

I've not seen this, the spelling mistakes thing, but ok. Not sure how
long it's been since you've played, but I think things have changed.
But it's up to you if you want to play again or not.

Dark, the game is not meant to be easy. I don't know how sighted
players play the game, but remember that they're skimming the text and
that's what the pack will do for us. It'll cut out the the uneeded
text. Here's the pack, let me know if you have more questions.

I can see the advantage in vector aiming though how do you aim down?
Also as I said there was a bug sinse whenever I typed "aim +" or "aim
+ 4" or something like that I got told "choose a coordinate on the new
z axis" or something like that and I couldn't actually aim at all. I
got lucky with the rat in the tutorial sinse it was west of me and I
could just type aim 4 which worked.
Also, why the hell is tracking so spammy, I dn't need to be told "a
computer voice says" bl bla can't it just give the coordinates? really
this is a major fault in the game and considering I had one ship
destroyed and one nearly crippled it was pretty serious, and I've got
my voice rate set pretty high.

I prefer vip, so a vip pack would be nice anyway, as Vip works much
better with sapi than mush does (reviewing and such is easier), but I
will confess I'm a little irritated that a pac is necessary, sinse I
thought the game was intended to be accessible off the bat anyway,
really the staff should do a better job with combat display here and
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this before.

If you could send me the pack I might try again, although I confess
I'm a bit irritated with the game thus far as it seems amazingly harsh
when you screw up.
I logged out and got one ship blown up, bye bye starter lone, I messed
up a ground combat (which I admit was my fault), then I got one ship
severely crippled and one ship blown to bits in twoimpossible combats
leaving me with no money, no ship, no suit and no way to progress,
and all the suggestion I got was "go beg my alliance" who didn't
particularly help either (not that I'd go begging money off people).

I couldn't even take out a lone.

If you send me the pack I might give the game another try.

Hey dark,

I'm glad you asked here, and now that I know it was you, I can help.
Do you have a pack for SC? Their is one for VIP, and once we're done
updating the one for VIP, I'm going to port it to mushclient. The
reason I couldn't say this to you on newbie, is because the staff
don't like players talking about packs on the game. Once our pack is
approved by the staff, we can though. If you need the pack for vip,
I can drop you a link. Now for your questions.

I'm guessing that you didn't have the pack, so combat was a ton
harder for you. With the pack, you'll see the following:

tracking

In SC, their are two ways to lock on to an enemy. Coords and
vectors. My guess is that you had coords selected as your preferred
aiming method. I use vector aiming. W is north, A is west, D is
east, and so on.

For aiming up and down, I do aim -s, or +s. Remember that sine S is
at the center of WASD, it tells the game to aim either directly up,
or down. You can change this with aim +w, aim -x, and so on.

Let me know if this helps, and if you need the pack. Hope you decide
to give the game another try with this information.

Ok. Here we go, I'll try to explain this. It told you in the tutorial,
but hopefully I can explain this.

When you want to fight something, move to the enemy. So, M and then pick

When you get within one unit of them, type track. Pick the number, and
you'll start tracking. Depending on what target tracking array you have
installed on your ship, you might lose your track. If you look at your
status, you'll see that the stock target array will only keep track of
your targets 75 percent of the time. THis can be upgraded with better
arrays.

If there is an updated version of the VIP pack I would love to get a
hold of it. I am sure the pack I have is a couple years old. Over all
to me this is a really good game. Some of the commands get to me
sometimes but that is something that changes between games. Like maybe
because I am use to things this way I would love to be able to type
move to the name of place instead of having to type move then pick a
number in a list. I am talking about when flying around. Also asking
here because I am not sure. Is there away to have tracking tell you
coords of a ship. Instead of north east and so on? Also with this new
sp is there a sound for changing between sectors?
Thanks for any answers to these questions.

Re: [Audyssey] Star conquest very irritating

2016-05-28 Thread dark

Hi Mike.

Nope I had no pack so whenever I was told where the ship was it was super
spammy.

I can see the advantage in vector aiming though how do you aim down? Also as
I said there was a bug sinse whenever I typed "aim +" or "aim + 4" or
something like that I got told "choose a coordinate on the new z axis" or
something like that and I couldn't actually aim at all. I got lucky with the
rat in the tutorial sinse it was west of me and I could just type aim 4
which worked.
Also, why the hell is tracking so spammy, I dn't need to be told "a computer
voice says" bl bla can't it just give the coordinates? really this is a
major fault in the game and considering I had one ship destroyed and one
nearly crippled it was pretty serious, and I've got my voice rate set pretty
high.

I prefer vip, so a vip pack would be nice anyway, as Vip works much better
with sapi than mush does (reviewing and such is easier), but I will confess
I'm a little irritated that a pac is necessary, sinse I thought the game was
intended to be accessible off the bat anyway, really the staff should do a
better job with combat display here and I'm surprised nobody has mentioned
this before.

If you could send me the pack I might try again, although I confess I'm a
bit irritated with the game thus far as it seems amazingly harsh when you
screw up.
I logged out and got one ship blown up, bye bye starter lone, I messed up a
ground combat (which I admit was my fault), then I got one ship severely
crippled and one ship blown to bits in twoimpossible combats leaving me with
no money, no ship, no suit and no way to progress, and all the suggestion I
got was "go beg my alliance" who didn't particularly help either (not that
I'd go begging money off people).

I couldn't even take out a lone.

If you send me the pack I might give the game another try.

All the best,

Dark.

I'm guessing that you didn't have the pack, so combat was a ton harder for
you. With the pack, you'll see the following:

In SC, their are two ways to lock on to an enemy. Coords and vectors. My
guess is that you had coords selected as your preferred aiming method. I
use vector aiming. W is north, A is west, D is east, and so on.

For aiming up and down, I do aim -s, or +s. Remember that sine S is at the

can change this with aim +w, aim -x, and so on.

Hi.

No I don't have a soundpack. I'm not against the idea, but really the game
should be playable without.
I was! actually fighting rats when I got hit. I also don't know what you
mean by "vector based combat" I was trying! to aim with the directions like
7 for north and + for up, but it didn't seem to work whenever I tried to aim
up, also actually finding where the dam rat was to attack it was a struggle
sinse scanning took such a long time to say the coordinates it was at and
tracking only kicked in sometimes.

An explanation of how combat might work against a rat might help, eg, do you
target first and then track? or do you do the track command? and when is
scan useful?

Hi dark,

Do you have one of the sound packs? That helps because you don't have all
the extra talking of unimportant text? Secondly, don't use coordinate
based

combat. Use vector combat. What that is hit the number 7 to aim northwest
or 9 for northeast etc. as a new pilot do space combat with a group. As a
new pilot none of your ships are strong enough to do a single beacon. As
someone new learn to fly in manual mode stick to rats ground combat
salvage

etc.

I plan on art art to play again and would be willing to help out.

Right use vector it's a lot better. I would be willing to help in

Hey dark,

I'm glad you asked here, and now that I know it was you, I can help. Do

updating the one for VIP, I'm going to port it to mushclient. The
reason I couldn't say this to you on newbie, is because the staff don't

you a link. Now for your questions.

I'm guessing that you didn't have the pack, so combat was a ton harder

In SC, their are two ways to lock on to an enemy. Coords and vectors.
My guess is that you had coords selected as your preferred aiming
method. I use vector aiming. W is north, A is west, D is east, and so on.

For aiming up and down, I do aim -s, or +s. Remember that sine S is at
the center of WASD, it tells the game to aim either directly up, or
down. You can change this with aim +w, aim -x, and so on.

Let me know if this helps, and if you need the pack. Hope you decide to
give the game another try with this information.

[Audyssey] Star conquest very irritating

2016-05-27 Thread dark
Hi.

Well I have asked this on audiogames.net so might as well ask here.

?

Promethius I find a little incoherent for my taste in terms of activities and
what not, miriani I don't like the idea of all the pvp and license to grief, so
I decided to try star conquest. I have heard the bit about the enforced rp and
profile creation but I thought I tried that, however I've not had a game where
I've failed quite so badly.

?

I did the tutorial and talked to the new pilot lieason office and did the tasks
he said. Expooring and salvage were fine but combat was a real pest, mostly
because there is no quick way to get the coordinates of the enemy and by the
time you've heard the computer saying "rat automated starship at 3 4 5 " the
bloody thing has likely moved, and no I am not rewritng my entire mud
client just to play one game with all the scripting and such, I have no idea
how to do that I just want to play not program.

?

I did try ground combat and that was cool, accept I got my battlesuit blown up
which I freely admit was entirely my faultfor not bailing fast enough.

i then quit the game and lost my cargo hauler leaving me with two sets of
massive bills and no ship. I just about! had enough for a flitter which I
bought, and tried a little combat again, and got completely slaughtered,
particularly sinse the aim + command for aiming up in combat just didn't work,
I was told "select a direction on the z axis"

?

How the hell does anyone! do combat in this game?

?

with no money, and no ship I was stuck (nd I couldn't get a lone either sinse I
kept getting refused), and the only advice I got was go and beg on alliance
channel. People were actually very nice on the newby channel, but didn't really
have any suggestions.

?

I'd rather not make myself a pain to other players especially when i'm learning
a game and making so many major mistakes, so I deleted my character.

?

Given however that a lot of people do! play star conquest, I wonder, how the
hell do people do it? am I missing something about combat? or does it take all
that scripting nonsense, ie, the game is not accessible without massive amounts
of work.

?

Any advice appreciated sinse I really want to play a space game, I did enjoy
the background and some of the activities, but I am frankly now rather
frustrated.

Back to alter methinks.

All the best,

Dark.

Hi,

If you're on autopilot mode, (type auto) to make sure you're in this mode,
type m 1 1 1 to get to coord 1 1 1. Any set of cords you have, you type m
then the coord.

[Audyssey] star conquest soundpacks?

2012-11-21 Thread Darren Harris
Hi all,

I have vip mud on an xp sp3 machine.

I would like a soundpack for vip mud.

Does anybody have 1? If so could you share with me? my email address is
darren_g_har...@btinternet.com

I've never installed 1 before so could someone give me instruction on how
it's done? Also I've heard that you can replace certain bits of text with
sounds, if this is true can that person also tell me how this is done?

Many thanks.

Hi.

I agree I'm enjoying the new Star conquest after taking a break.

The alliances are at the moment Fringe and League are allied and AEU is Non
Aggression.

They also have Tesla the new one in now so you use a battle suit to do tesla
mining and you do group stuff and shoot combat drones.

Cheers.

i was referring to the new SC.
They have the best science fiction setup i've seen for muds, and I
played a lot of them before getting burned out on it all.
i'm not sure how easy it is to code for mush client, but i spent dozens
of hours developing triggers, cleaning out extraneous crap and setting up
sounds for vip mud, and it was all fairly easy to do once you get the
basics down.
For you other gamers out there, i would recommend star conquest even if
you don't like mudding or science fiction necessarily just to check out
the asteroid mining.
it is brilliant how they have set that up, and it is a real time strategy
game all on its own, and you can spend many hours jus trying to come up
with the best way to get the most ore out of the ground.
i was gonna write a book for the fringe before i left laying out
strategies for mining, but the admins pissed me off with their holier than

For those who are star conquest players be aware that the hosts are
watching
combat. They are watching for scripts and macros. If you are using any
type
of macro or scripting, please know you will be called don it and the
penalty

for it will be serious and huge. I got accused of it and lost a lot of
points and such.

Don't let it happen to you too. If you have anything that can be construed
as such get rid of it. I am deciding on whether or not I will be back
there

now.

It's neither a new MUD nor a very good one. But yeah, that's the correct
address for it. I'm still waiting on them to reopen GWSE...

[Audyssey] Star Conquest is back!

2006-12-28 Thread Orin
Hello former and remaining SquidSoft fans,

Well, it's back with new features and things... even a new name, but
I can't spell it. Basicly, it uses the same style of space combat
you'd expect from SC. I also think there's gonna be new income
methods as well, so rock on with that. And yeah, hopefully I'll get
used to combat sometime. I picture that combat system as STFC
multiplayer, and that's just cool in itself.

Well, it's under a new company name as well, and you could get to it
by telneting to toastsoft.net 1234 or going to:

http://www.toastsoft.net

Enjoy all and hope to see you there!

Re: [Audyssey] star conquest beta

2006-09-25 Thread Cary
heh you missing star conquest as much as I am?
unfortunately I didn't make it into the closed beta but I know someone who
did and they said that all the beta is right now is a one-room combat
simulator. the hosts won't reveal to anyone anything about the new version
of star conquest though, so no one knows, not even those in the beta. blah.
I can't wait.
They did say that hopefully by the middle of october it'd be up and running.
I'm not holding my breath though.

Re: [Audyssey] star conquest beta

2006-09-25 Thread James Homuth
I wouldn't hold your breath on anything productive coming of SC.
According to the Squidsoft community journal
(http://squidsoft.livejournal.com ), it's 95% politics, and 5%
gameplay. And somewhere in the middle of that there may be a spark of maturity.

hello. Does anyone know what the actual current status is on star conquest the
website has mentioned something about a combat focused closed beta. I'm not
asking for hints or anything, I just want to know if anyone from this list is
in that closed beta, and what kind of progress they are making towards getting
operational againe. I know they spoke of significant rewrites to the code of
the game and such. Thanks,

[Audyssey] star conquest news

2006-05-17 Thread Scott Shade
I don't know if this is authentic or not. Anyways here is the text from the
squidsoft.net site. I'm hoping some of you know more about this.

Squidsoft.net - Star Conquest: Catalyst
Star Conquest: Catalyst - Things are about to change.

Greetings!

We felt we should provide an update on our progress on Star Conquest. For those
who saw the update on April 1, yes, April Fool's and such.

So what's taking so long? We're drastically updating pretty much the whole of
the game. Some of SC's code was written 8 years ago, and it definitely shows.
Many portions of the codebase have been rewritten from the ground up.

But not all the changes are on the backend, not by any means. Our number one
goal is to retain the classic feel of SC that many players have come to love.
At the same time, it's time for some things to be updated. It's time for the
story to move on.

Star Conquest will reopen in the midst of a long story arc that will change the
face of the world forever. You will have new friends and new enemies, new
places to explore, new ways to make money, new things to do, and a whole mess
of new ways to tinker with your ship. We believe our old fans will be very
happy with the new changes, and we believe new players will be quite pleased to
play the sort of game we can create after years and years of combined
experience.

Keep watching this space. Day One will come soon enough, and we promise an
exciting start to your next tour of duty as starship pilot.
