Hi. I'm also deaf. I guess there's a lot of us. I use didgital hearing aids no idea how powerful. I can play most games still, sarah is too much for me but I can handle GTC and Sod and such. - Original Message - From: "Thomas Ward" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Sunday, November 09, 2008 11:44 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] deff people Hi Matthew, Speaking of people with partial loss of hearing or near deaf I've been wondering on ways of improving mota ffor those with hearing as well as visual disabilities. Re: [Audyssey] deff people
Well, Thomas, the problem is, You would need a screen reader running in the background to get the braille to work wouldn't you? Sounds like a good Idea as far as health and all. But, might be a waist of time. When I play your other game, I had no problem with needing a braille to know my health and so forth. And the sound panning helpped a lot. Correct me if I'm wrong about the Braille part. Just as I recalled, running your game and a screen reader didn't go hand in hand. Re: [Audyssey] deff people
Speaking of playing games for some folks that are either able to hear some. You can still play three D games, as long as you can hear in one ear well enough like me. What I've done, is move the computer speakers, or should I say power sterio speakers on my right side, the left speaker is on my right front, and the right speakers is on my right back. That way when playing like shades of Doom, or something, I can tell if it's left or right, depending on where the sound is. Takes some getting used to doing it. Matt. -Original Message- From: K. Re: [Audyssey] deff people
Hi Sean. H, how about online games such as Sryth? lots of stuff to do and no typing in commands. then, there's the various gamebook style stuff, which is probably easier and less frustrating to play than If, sinse there's no typing in of commands. For starters you could try ffproject.org, - though if you want a full list, just search audiogames.net under "gamebooks" (I can guarantee the entries there are uptodate). Hth. Beware the Grue! Well, I can answer this one. Since I'm pretty much labeled Blind/Deaf. Yet, I can still hear some audio and play audio games. But, any way. All in play, Kindom of loathing, uhm, thrist, furry-paws, uhm, several others that I play with with nothing but Braille. The question is, can the said person read Braille good enough and comprehend the mechanics of games. If the person has been able to hear or see in the past, makes it much easier.
