Re: [Audyssey] joining the Interactive Fiction Group
Hi Ari, All of the tens of thousands of News Groups are still very active. Including the Usenet groups. A sighted friend of mine set up an inaccessible News Groups robot program for me that scarfs the sound files from such groups as alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.sound-effects and alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.video-games. So far I have gotten over thirty thousand sound files that I search through for use in my games. However I have been told that as long as your provider provides the News Groups that Out Look can be set up to access them. HTH BFN Jim How can there be self-help groups? Re: [Audyssey] joining the Interactive Fiction Group
well, sinse you can just read the groups page like a web forum rather than having messages delivered to you, traffic doesn't matter. but things did seem to get a tad technical, in discussion about the parza and various merrits of If languages, and how game X could've been better for being in language Y. that was a couple of years ago though, so it might have changed, or i might just have caught a particular bundle of tech discussion. For keeping up with If releases and reviews though, i'd recommend the web magazine Spag, - which certainly isn't too technical and is often quite fun. You can read it online at http://sparkynet.com/spag/frame.html Hmmm, it's a long time sinse I checked that. Beware the Grue! What I did notice about this group is that they give you a lot of news on new games. http://www.roguelikefiction.com is pretty interesting. I'll have to check that mag out. Re: [Audyssey] joining the Interactive Fiction Group
Hi Ari. As far as I understand it Usernet was the networked of computers before the internet became wide spread and main stream, though I'm stil not sure why some people stil mention usernet groups. As reguards interactive fiction though, the very official group I know is google groups rec-games-int-fiction which can be found at http://groups-beta.google.com/group/rec.games.int-fiction You can have it go through your in box as a mailing list I before, or do what I did and just use it like a web forum. it's quite accessible except for setting up an account which requires image varification, but as this is google just send them an E-mail and they'll sort your account and password out very quickly, - mine were done within a day as I remember. the groups nice for finding out about new If and of course voting and the if comps work through it, but things got a litle too technical quite a lot of the time for my taste, which is why I'm not a member anymore.
