As long as the Sports Gods are spinning off $6 million payments to UF they'll
be allowed to erect icons for worshipful football adherents.

I've been a Gator long enough to remember the UF-Miami annual rivalry game
before FSU became a part of our schedule. I'd trade a weekend in Tally for a
weekend in Miami in a heartbeat.

True. The University is in dire financial shape due to relying upon
Stimulus money. Given the negative impact on State tourism (and related
State revenue), it is unlikely that the State legislature can increase its

The legislature actually increased funding to UF for next year. The stimulus
funds helped keep UF afloat this year. I'll post the budget info when I have
time to do the research.

Actually my daughter, the PR major, is minoring in Event Management and it
appears to be a great supplement to her major as PRs have to plan a lot of
corporate events. I don't know what the football players plan on doing with
it, but there are a lot of them in the program, and I can see some
Darlene,
Thanks! I meant nothing by my comment, but I was curious what one would do
with a degree like that. My first thought was like Steve's and thought play
football. I thought there has to be more to it than just that. Thanks for
the explanation/story!

Congrats to your daughter.
Seems like event management is all over the place now. Even tv shows.

Just to clarify, I meant that David Young would likely use his major to play
football.
I'm glad that these guys can't just major in football, even though that is the
primary/sole reason a lot of them are in college. Most of them don't consider
the fact that the odds are so stacked against them
Shane,
Absolutely no offense taken, my husband's reaction was similar to yours when
she told him her planned minor. Just trying to provide a little context, I had
never heard of it until it started turning up in our players, but as it turns
it it's a en vogue major right now. I have a friend

Steve,
With the IQ of some players, it's probably a good thing that they don't MAJOR
in football. How would you like to be a stud football player, All-SEC, NFL
bound, and fail out of your major (football). Pretty embarassing, huh? :-)

Here's the revenue estimates for FY2009-2010 and FY2010-2011. I don't know
where you got your info about declining revenues in Florida. We are expecting
an increase in the state revenue and the budget was increased accordingly; and,
UF is getting some of it.
More on that later.
