I am not clear as to whether live diatoms are being suggested or just diatoms because they are nano silica particles as in diatomous earth. If the latter then Gregory Benford suggested the spreading of diatomous earth as diatoms in the stratosphere, about four years ago (1) as an SRM method.

Dr Gorman I am referring to all three - Diatomaceous Earth and live diatoms as a SRM solution. Nano silica with micro nutrients to keep the live diatoms alive and cause further bloom after they fall into the oceans. DE is NOT in nano size. Is is in microns. Michael I understand that

Hi all, I've been concentrating on the Arctic methane threat for the past few weeks. The threat is extremely serious. But this talk of $600 per tonne of CO2 for air capture is another bombshell. That's $2200 per tonne of carbon! I had been assuming that we could take carbon out of the

The fast growing arctic willow could be harvested and reburied by dumping the biomass onto lakes or sea. The soil in the Arctic is thick and the dried wood could also float to the sea if loaded onto the rivers (it sinks later to the seafloor). There are number of fast growing trees and bushes

John, I would not put much credence in APS's $600/tonne CO2 figure. Since $0/tonne air capture now accounts for 50% uptake of emitted CO2 (15GT CO2/yr), it would seem to me that should be plenty of low cost ways of increasing this. If, on the otherhand, you choose to ignore these very
