Re: [Gimp-developer] tga loader patch

This is a patch and long-winded README for the targa file format plugin

will cause problems (read: crash) on files that are smaller than the 495
bytes of the extension area (of a version 2.0 targa file).

I'm fairly sure I applied an equivalent fix to either the branch or HEAD.
I thought I'd applied it to both, but if people are sending us patches
then I guess I didn't.

Yup, I've checked, I did fix this on the branch. HEAD isn't my problem,
since I don't have any systems where I could test it before checking in.

[Gimp-developer] new releases of GTK+ and friends

2001-09-19 Thread Sven Neumann

Hi,

new releases in the development series of glib, Pango, Atk and GTK+
have appeared on the FTP servers. I have just committed a bunch of
changes for The GIMP so that the HEAD branch compiles against these
releases. Actually it now requires these releases to build
successfully. In particular you need

  glib-1.3.8
  pango-0.19
  atk-0.4
  gtk+-1.3.8

You will also need to have libtiff, libpng, freetype2 and pkgconfig
installed before installing the packages mentioned above. We will
try our best to keep the HEAD branch of The GIMP compatible with
these releases for a while (preferably at least until a new version
of GTK+ is released).

A lot of stuff in The GIMP is broken at the moment (most noteably
the Text Tool), but it is nevertheless a good moment to give it a
try. We consider doing a 1.3.0 release as soon as some of the
outstanding issues are solved, but I do hereby encourage the brave
and curious among you to install the packages mentioned above and
check gimp HEAD out of CVS. Any feedback and especially any help
is very much appreciated.

Salut, Sven

[Gimp-developer] [ot] GIMP in Hollywood

2001-09-19 Thread Branko Collin

Linux Today linked to an article about the growing acceptance of
Linux in Hollywood (meaning: Linux being used by film production
companies). Apparently Shrek was made for a large part using Linux
boxes.

There is a small mention of the GIMP:

: Hammerhead has ported its tools to Linux and uses Linux
: RenderMan. Partner Thad Beier says, We use GIMP, which
: is unique among Linux open source tools for being supported
: by companies in the industry, such as Rhythm Hues and
: Silicon Grail. GIMP, an image editor with features
: similar to Photoshop, provides 16-bit per channel
: support (64-bit RGBA). It is an example of the leverage
: obtained by building on someone else's existing open
: source code.

Yes, it's the Hollywood branch cut off somewhen around 0.99.x or 1.x.
