find anything definate on it. Does anyone know when / if there will be
a new version of GIMP released. Developing a complete course (vid
tutorials etc) for GIMP and don't want it to be obsolete straight away.

It uses whatever print plug-in you installed. If you want to use the
gutenprint plug-in, then get the GIMP plug-in from the gutenprint
project. I think I already mentioned that.
And as I mentioned, I had already installed Gutenprint from within the
Ubuntu

Because of the nature of my work, I have to repeat the same set of
commands over and over again. These commands are:
1. Create a selection from a path (I don't know if there's a keyboard
shortcut for this)

One workaround is, to Select-Sharpen after creating the selection. This
will remove all antialiasing.
