[Gimp-user] Save For Web Option?

2006-04-05 Thread Mark Sargent

Hi All,

am a rather experienced Linux user for the past 2yrs or so, but, not
much with Gimp. I used to use Fireworks/Photoshop on Windows some time
back, and am wondering where within Gimp I can just save as for web, and
it allows me to resize etc. I can't seem to find that option anywhere in
the menus. All I see is, save, save as, save a copy, save as template. I
have a 14.5mb file that I need to get to under 500kb or less. Could
someone point this non-gui fool in the right direction? Cheers.

Mark Sargent.

Re: [Gimp-user] Save For Web Option?

2006-04-05 Thread Dave Neary

Hi Mark,

Sorry - we don't have it.

It wouldn't be hugely difficult - you'd nee a plug-in that can resize,
index, save as png, save as gif, save as jpg, with a quality slider,
that would show file size and a decent preview for the different
formats. But we don't have it.

If anyone knows of a decent plug-in that does, I'd be delighted to hear
about it.

Cheers,
Dave.

Store it in .jpg or .png format. By setting the quality parameters you
can influence the size.

What format your file is? BMP? TIFF? If so, just saving to jpg would
make the trick.

[Gimp-user] Window decorations

2006-04-05 Thread Roy Sanderson
Hello

I've recently upgraded from RHL 7.3 to Fedora, and hence from Gimp version
1.2.3 to version 2.2.10 One thing that has puzzled us is that when doing a
'grab' of a single window (via File-Aquire-Screenshot), there is no
longer the option of grabbing a window without decorations (i.e. without
its title bar, control buttons etc.). Other than selecting, copying and
pasting from the grabbed window in Gimp to exclude the decorations (which
is not always accurate and users are complaining) is there a way of getting
the 'Without Decorations' button to show as in version 1.2.3 on the
Screenshot command?

Many thanks
Roy

Similar complaint here. No matter how I try to shot just selected area I
can't. When cursor turns into crosshair I can't select just desired area
of window, but the whole window or screen.

I have the same problem...SuSE 10 Gimp 2.2.7 (with an empty Logo, just

This description of the same problem is rather different, though.

That works for me, but if it doesn't work for you, try the

pattern and gradient for each device you have active (even if
all you use is the standard mouse).

i think this saves a different default pattern, brush, etc. only.

and also, i think the question was how to make gimp start with a
different tool than it does by default.

this has been fixed in gimp-2.3 and (to me) the screenshot getter makes
much more sense now than in either gimp-1.2 or gimp-2.2.

that being said, i have not yet tried to select an area on the desktop.
to me, you can select the area on the desktop, or you can use the
superior tools and select the same stuff from the image.

if you hadn't mentioned my name, i would have waited quietly for an
answer to your question.

my theory about the storyboard plug-in is that it should seem natural if
you have had experience with the real life story board it probably
emulates.

my personal experience with it could be described easiest with the words
clueless and frustered.

sorry. maybe someone who knows how it works will pipe up here.

[Gimp-user] animation problem

2006-04-05 Thread Adly Mabro
Hi, I just installed gimp 2.2.10 on my new Athlon64x2 desktop running
windows XP.

My small gif animations will run perfectly from filters/animation/playback.

All the layers have a subject image near the center of the frames, with a
transparent background, with the (replace) attribute enabled.

However once I point at the animation and drag it out of the window during
play, as soon as the click is done, white areas within all the layers at the
intersections of the images, become apparent as they are flipping, which
normally are not there when the animation remains in its play window playing
perfectly, without being clicked.

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks, Adly
