[Gimp-user] Can I skip the GIMP User Installation screen upon first start?

2006-01-02 Thread Jason Bassett

Hello

Is there any way that I may set up the GIMP on a multi user Linux machine so
that when a new person logs in and runs The GIMP, they do not need to go
through the GIMP User Installation screen to set directories etc. I would
instead like these settings to be pulled from defaults that I set myself.

The reason is that inexperienced users will be using the machines and I do
not want them to be encountering more screens that is required.

I have tried editing various files such as /etc/gimp/2.0/gimprc but this
only changes the defaults that appear for the user to accept.

What about installing one, set your preferences and everything you need,
then backup the .gimp/2.0/ files ?

Then use a script to perform multiple installations at once.

AFAIK the install process just creates the .gimp-2.2 directory in
the home directory of the user and stores some preferences files in
there. You could try to make a template .gimp-2.2 directory - one
which does not have any user dependencies and distribute this into
the user directories of all users you want to use GIMP without
installing it.

I would add the .gimp tree in the system skeleton
( /etc/skel/) for new users.
That way all users added will automagically get the settings..

you can safely follow the instructions at
http://wiki.gimp.org/gimp/HowToCompileGimp/MicrosoftWindows. You just need
to
modify the supplied CompileGimp.sh to download the correct libraries etc,
since I don't think the script is actively maintained. You have to have
mingw installed to build gimp, rather than VS. See
http://wiki.gimp.org/gimp/GetMingwBatch, which is a batch script to
download and install mingw, as well as some supporting libraries etc (like
perl and msys).

contact me?

Thanks,

Hello Dave, could you please forward this invitation to the rest of GIMP
developers?

This is an invitation to be part of the jury that will decide the winner
of the GUADEC logo and theme design contest. We would like to have a
member of the GIMP community in this jury. We are inviting:

* GNOME Foundation - the owners of the brand
* GUADEC committee - the contest organisers
* art.gnome.org - main source of contributors (I)
* gnome-look.org - main source of contributors (and II)
* GIMP development team - experts in creative GTK+ tools (I)
* Inkscape development team - experts in creative GTK+ tools (II)
* Drupal.org - experts in themes
* GNOME Catalan translation team - the local perspective
* The community - vote based on a poll

We are sending all the invitations today, since yesterday the GUADEC
beta site was soft-released: http://beta.guadec.org

We have designed a procedure to decide the winner that shouldn't take
much time, nor debates. It is based on a first round of nominations and
a second round of votes. The whole decision process will last one week,
starting on Feb 1st.

More information about the contest: http://beta.guadec.org/?q=contest

More information about the jury: http://beta.guadec.org/?q=node/27

We will be honoured if you accept this invitation! :)

2006-01-02 Thread Axel Wernicke

Hi Pure_Genius (somehow I doubt that this is your real name, but anyway)

I'm not sure if I understood correctly what you want, but you now,
that you can dock multiple dialogs into one window just by dragging
them into the sensitive area of the dialog window? This way you can
group dialogs however you feel comfortable. Have you had a look into
the related part of the GIMP manual (http://docs.gimp.org/en/
concepts-beginners.html#gimp-concepts-docks) already?

Don't hesitate to ask again in case I didn't hit the point here.

Greetings, lexA

I went with the copying of .gimp folder into /etc/skel. I did the same with
