Now the problem. If I change the Floating Selection that I Pasted

don't change the Floating Selection it appears I can not change to

It works fine if you anchor the floating selection. But I think the

Hi, looks to me like there is a dependency (to gimp-print) missing in the
MacPort portfile. Have you contacted the maintainer of that GIMP MacPort
yet?
btw. there is also GIMP 2.3.16 available on MacPort as port named gimp-dev.
You might want to give this a try instead...

 Hi gimp-user,

I'm not sure what they are called in photographic terminology, but I
have a picture of a long winding road with sunspots. The sun shines
through the trees and is so bright that the eye immediately goes to
those spots. They are pretty big at the beginning of the road. I need
to brighten the picture, but how do I tone down those spots on a
gravel road. They appear almost white.

I've played around with a couple of processes, but nothing looks
realistic or addresses the problem. Any suggestions?

 Thank you.

Do you have an example online somewhere? Do you have a raw file for the
image? The reason I ask, is that if the spots are blown out (that is
they are pure white with no detail) there may not be much to do short of
actually retouching them out of the picture. The raw image might still
have detail that a camera created jpg lost.If so, you could create
overlays to capture the high and low details (I can dig up some links on
how). You could create a mask to tone them down, but then you end up
with gray dots and my personal opinion is that looks worse.

Unless this is a special picture, it may not be worth your time.
Chalk it up as a learning experience on how to better visualize your
final images as you look through the viewfinder.

[Gimp-user] Plug-in's at registry.gimp.org

2007-06-01 Thread DJ
Hi Gimp-user,

I'm interested in a plug-in greycstoration, at
http://registry.gimp.org/list?description=grey.

There appears to be two different ones, but one says it is official
and supported.

Are plug-in's that are accepted as part of GIMP standard install,
removed from the registry?

When you install a plug-in, how do you know where it will end up on
the menu, other than to look at the code? And if you look at the
code, do you take the opportunity to relocate the plug-in to a
location that makes sense to you for usability and management?

It would be nice if the registry database was like FireFox add-in's,
where Gimp could query if there has been an update to an add-in that
you have installed.

Thank you.

Re: [Gimp-user] Plug-in's at registry.gimp.org

2007-06-01 Thread Elwin Estle
GREYCstoration shows up in FiltersEnhance. As far as I know, you can't
control where
plugins show up (tho if you are a programmer??) I have heard that you can
change the
location of where scripts show up.

As for where to get it, I got mine from:

http://www.greyc.ensicaen.fr/~dtschump/greycstoration/

..Which doesn't seem to be the same page that is linked for the homepage as
listed in the
Plugin Registry.

As for installation, it goes in your plugins folder. Some of them have an
installer,
some of them are just a binary that you have to place in the correct folder.
I'd give
you a path, but I run the portable version of Gimp at work and at home I use
Linux. It's
something like gimp\app\lib\2.0\plugins or something similar.

is the best while other is outdated and deprecated from his authors

[Gimp-user] Another GIMPTOOL question: If it's not in the GIMP development libraries, where is it?

2007-06-01 Thread DJ
Hi Gimp-user,

I've run across a couple of plug-in's I've wanted to try, but
compiling them was something I didn't want to tackle, until now.
I thought I'd give it a try, at least once :-)

Resynthesizer
http://logarithmic.net/pfh/resynthesizer

Another one I wanted to try:

Refocus
http://refocus.sourceforge.net/

I did installed via the very slow YAST the GIMP development library
and gtk needed library. All 2.2.13. I know 2.2.15 is available but
there isn't an rpm for SuSE 10.1, at least that I found. :-)

When I type make per the README, it is looking for gimptool. I saw
on the list some previous reference to gimptool. I thought by installing
the GIMP development library I'd have it, but indeed, I do not have a
gimptool installed. I didn't see it at rpmfind either.

What step am I missing?

I've always wonder with Linux, do users have multiple machines
(Virtual maybe? Boot Partitions?), one for development, and one
for production, or do they have development libraries on their
productive machines? We were always told not to mix the two.
HHHmmm, perhaps a topic for another list.

Thank you.

I downloaded the official and supported one from:

The README.txt said to copy a file, GREYCstoration_gimp_pc_linux to

This has happened to me when the plugin tries to startup but crashes. You
should be able to notice this if you run gimp from a terminal emulator --
IIRC it tends to produce a 'broken pipe' message.
