[Gimp-user] Reducing an image

2008-01-02 Thread Thomas Holland

Hi all,

I have a photo that I want to reduce down to something that I can post
on the web. How do I do that with Gimp? I have looked all through the
menus and found nothing.

Hi Thomas,

you might want to have a look to the Preparing your Images for the
Web section of the GIMP manual (online accessible at
http://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-using-web.html
  ).

Greetings from your documentation writers

[Gimp-user] Opening files in Gimp2.4x from 3rd party thumbnail viewer

2008-01-02 Thread Peter Taylor
Hi,
I use a photo cataloging program called IDimager as a 'front end' for
Gimp. This program displays thumbnails of the complete directory (with
star ratings, etc.), and is a very convenient way of identifying photos.
Since changing to v2.4, a fresh instance of the Gimp is started for each
new photo that I open. Previously with v2.2x it was a dream.Once it had
opened Gimp for the first picture, from then on it quickly loaded new
photos into the existing instance of Gimp. Now that it opens a fresh
instance of Gimp for each photo, it is obviously slower and uses
excessive system resources.

The only change I have made is going from Gimpv2.2 to v2.4. IDimager
has not been updated. I did not configure v2.2 specially, but wonder if
there is a way to configure v2.4 to behave similarly.

Incidentally, another thumbnail viewer I have used is Faststone
thumbnail viewer. That opened a fresh instance of Gimp with v2.2 as well.

I would appreciate any help - even if it means using a different
thumbnail viewer.

Thanks for any help

[Gimp-user] Maps and sinusoidal projections

2008-01-02 Thread James Colannino
Hey everyone,

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but I've been doing some
googling around trying to find an answer and haven't found anything
(though I may not know the proper search terms to use.) Basically, I
have a rectangular projection of a world map that I want to convert to a
sinusoidal map. I looked around for plugins that could do this, as well
as other programs, but couldn't find anything useful.

I'm fairly new to the GIMP, so I may very well just be missing
something. I'd be willing to take a stab at writing a plugin if one
doesn't already exist.

Thanks :)

No idea what exactly IDimage is doing but it probably needs to be
updated for GIMP 2.4 then.

 IDimager

Windows prog so I don't know if my advice will work.

I'd go to the IDimager preferences and see if it is possible to
change the word gimp to gimp-remote where applicable.

I know that sometimes gimp-remote is named with the version # as
well (like gimp-remote-2.4) so you might have to do a little
exploration to find the exact name

good luck

You could script this in the GIMP mathmap plugin:

Alternatively hugin can convert from equirectangular to sinusoidal projection:

Or perhaps IDimage can call gimp-remote instead of gimp? If that doesn't
work one could make gimp a link to gimp-remote. As far as I know it
behaves like gimp when no other instance of GIMP is running.

[Gimp-user] Gimp 2.4 Script-fu problem

2008-01-02 Thread John Coppens
Hello people.

I just compiled and installed Gimp 2.4.3, and it seems to be working fine.
Except that the two scripts I once made didn't work anymore. I believe I
succeeded in correcting the differences for TinyScheme, but in one of the
scripts there seems to be a different bahaviour with the layers.

The script is supposed to add a title on a selected place, and worked
fine under 2.2.x. Now, the text appears as a new layer, but the color
isn't right, the layer seems blocked (cannot select another layer)while
it's still floating, the combination mode (addition/subtraction) is not
respected and the command in the script to flatten the image is not
executed.

No errors appear, but something did go wrong...

I've attached the script, as it is quite short. Is there some text
documenting which, if any, changes were made to the procedures in the PDB?
Something like the migration page for TinyScheme?

John
