[Gimp-user] I don't understand how GIMP treat pasted selection -- something with a floating anchor

2009-01-09 Thread Alchemie foto\grafiche
 From: Cristian Secar? or...@secarica.ro
 the first paste
action the new created layer remain there for ever, even
 after six or
ten thousands other further actions. I only want to combine
 layers when
I give the command to flatten the image.

That was a usability issue in older version of Gimp is solved now in gimp 2.6.

Simply instead then copy and paste, you have to copy and PASTE AS/New Layer.

Unfortunately the Gimp Help is not yet fully updated to Gimp 2.6 so the
function may be not described there , but luckily is sufficent simple to not
require documentation, just is needed to notice that menu option

Another similar functions that avoid the user to have to unnecessary fiddle
with floating selection in gimp 2.6 is Layer/new layer from visible.

Paste as as also other useful options i.e. paste as new imagine

It's really easy. The main problem is to get the script into the right
directory with the right permissions. ;-)

If I am allowed to plug my own stuff here - have a look at
http://forum.meetthegimp.org/index.php/board,12.0.html for examples,
http://forum.meetthegimp.org/index.php/topic,202.0.html for how to start
and even at http://meetthegimp.org/episode-038-a-phython-in-a-barrel/ a

you'll don't need that one.

[Gimp-user] Autosizing text to fit a fixed width?

2009-01-09 Thread Bernard Rankin
Hello,

Is there a way to create a single-line fixed width text box in GIMP such that
the text inside starts out at some desired size, but is automatically shrunk in
size to fit the width of the box if the supplied text is too long.

[Gimp-user] Has anyone encountered this?

2009-01-09 Thread Dave
I have been playing with Gimp for about a year now. It is a pretty rich
featured application and I'm happy with it's output. It's not Photoshop but if
you do the budget, it becomes $800+ versus $0. Kind of a no-brainer.

I'm building a banner for a particular page on our website. I have repetitive
layers that I move around (M key). Everything has gone along just fine. I can
move each layer to where I want it and then fix each layer to the entire
canvas. OK. Good right?

Not!!! Now when I am down to the very last two layers, the move function has
been lost, with the icon showing the cross through the circle indicating the
layer can't be moved. What the heck is up with that? I never had that issue in
Photoshop.

Anyone seen this before?

You haven't stated which version of GIMP you are using or which operating
system. Since you mention using Photoshop, it would mean some version of
Windows.

[Gimp-user] From Clipboard as Layer

2009-01-09 Thread daviodan
It is possible to exist in future versions of the GIMP option:
File-Create-From Clipboard as Layer? Sometimes it is necessary using more
screenshots.

I tried it with GIMP 2.6.4, it worked but we need to create a new
image first before the menu become active, otherwise the menu is
disabled. Also the file open dialog appeared behind the image window.

At least the first issue can easily be addressed. The plug-in should use
the empty string as image-type parameter in the procedure
registration. It probably uses * which means activate this plug-in if
there's an image, no matter what image type.

Just use Edit-Paste and convert the resulting floating selection to a
new layer.

I got around it but I still don't know how. Not complaining considering the
cost of this app. I wish I could tell you how.

Since I can't reproduce it, it's going to remain out there until I or someone
else can find the steps to reproduction of the event.
