How, as a standalone? if I call xsane without the Gimp open, it by
default scans to viewer, file or others, but under Gimp, it scans to the
 Gimp.

My xsane under Gimp is located under 'file/acquire' from top-menu.

Right, I mean that I tried to verify if xsane worked, was in order. So,
launching it on its own, outside the gimp I could work with it to acquire an
image, a fax, etc. So xsane exists works, isn't out of order. Its the
combination of xsane the gimp that doesn't seem to work properly.

How do you know that it is seen by GIMP as a plug-in? Did you locate
it in the Plug-In Browser (as found in Toolbox-Xtns)?

Sven, when you launch the gimp, at the very beginning during the booting a
rectangular box with the word Gimp 2.0 and many running words occupies the
display. One of those running words is plug-ins and another is xsane.
This intutevely makes me think that xsane has been detected.

[Gimp-user] Re: Perl modules with Gimp 2.0 MORE...

2004-07-13 Thread Vittorio
Seth,

Many thanks for your quick reply.
Now it all works fine!

Unfortunately for me the ChangeLog file wasn't that clear.
But now, at last, I know how to use it! Thanks again.

Now, the perl module I have just fixed (called join2pics, labels are in
Italian) with your help combines two picture into one. In a nutshell, if you
want to print on a A4 sheet four pictures ( as I often do with my digital
camer's photos) you just call twice join2pics combining the picture you like
either horizontally or vertically.
I think this module, translated into English, could be helpful to other
people. How could I contribute it to other GIMPers?

Happy GIMPing to you

 OK, so you have gimptool-2.0.

[Gimp-user] kde gimp problems when zooming in

2004-06-16 Thread Vittorio
Context: P4, linux debian testing with boxed kde 3.2 and gimp 1.2.3.

1)
I often update my linux box by means of 'apt-get update' and 'apt-get
upgrade' .
(I suppose that) After one of this updating operation I'm no longer able in
the gimp to zoom in an image to 1:1 by pressing only the key 1 which
instead open the dialogue windows to open a file (in a nutshell 1 has become
a shortcut of file-open !).

What should I do?

2)
only the shortcut '1' is clearly suggested in the zoom menu of the gimp to
zoom to 1:1.
Is it possible to give other shorcuts for the other sizes (2:1 or 1:2, for
instance) and how?

Probably your window manager is playing tricks. Some wm like to use
Alt+Click for things (and Alt+Move and so on), so the apps never see

 1) lp is 360 dpi
 2) lp720 is 720x720 dpi
 3) lp1440 is 1440x720 dpi

Now, using the print command under the gimp I have (tentatively)
selected in 'setup printer' the epson 640 as my printer, and lp as my
 printer name.

It works! But I find it all a bit confusing

I mean I've chosen lp (which is 360 dpi to me) and I've selected other
resolutions than the 1). Then why should I tell the Gimp what my
printer is? Isn't already selected by magicfilter? Shouldn't be enough
to select printer name only (either lp, or lp720 or lp1440)?

Is there anyone out there able to explain the basic of printing with
 the gimp?

 Vittorio

[Gimp-user] Printing with the Gimp 1.2.3

2002-10-29 Thread Vittorio
It all works but I don't understand..

Under debian woody I have the gimp 1.2 and gimp-print. I've set my
Epson 640 printer as my default printer by means of magicfilter
according to the following scheme:

1) lp is 360 dpi
2) lp720 is 720x720 dpi
3) lp1440 is 1440x720 dpi

Now, using the print command under the gimp I have (tentatively)
selected in 'setup printer' the epson 640 as my printer, and lp as my
printer name.

It works! But I find it all a bit confusing
