I run a Red Hat Linux 6.1 and made an upgrade to the newest libs (glibc, gtk...) Also have installed Gtk-Perl-0.700 but I think, this is not neccessary to basically run gimp. Are you sure, running ./configure finds everyting it needs? Have you installed all else neccessary libs, e.g. libjpeg, libtiff (upgrade) etc.? Make sure, you have also installed the development parts of the packages (e.g. gtk+-devel 1.2.6-1 on my system)! Have you made an "make uninstall" in the root dir of previously installed gimp-version or removed any old rpm-packages, that have installed gimp in your system? Don´t know, if my hints may be helpful, anyhow, hope you will be successful, Cheers Olli -- Oliver Bienert Phone: 030-47475624 eMail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent by KMail --
Re: make install woes
I have downloaded the latest gimp. As root I did the following: ./configure make make install First attempt failed due to some -devel libs that were not up to speed, upgraded and then ./configure went off without a hitch. First attempt to 'make' ended in a segfault after hours. I did not note the exact errors other than 1 2 and 3. It was trying to do something with the Gimpressionist when it went down. I tried again this morning to 'make' hoping to get the errors for you and it made without any errors. Feeling lucky I fired off the 'make install' command. It ran to completion without any noticable errors. At long last I launched the Gimp only to find the same OLD version as before. What have I done wrong? Thanks in advance for any help. -- Jon Winters http://www.obscurasite.com/ OpenVerse http://www.openverse.org/
Re: make install woes
Hi Kappa, I had the same problem when I tried to install a new version of gimp without installing also a new glib and gtk. I thought it is not necessary because the gtk and glib version was the right one. But gimp cannot install if it has not a fresh gtk and glib. I deleated gimp, gtk, and glib, reinstalled gtk and glib from CD and then installed Gimp. It worked.
