[Gimp-user] Photoshop Alternatives

You can get the GIMP source code via Git, see
https://live.gnome.org/Git/Developers for instructions.
ok. I'll check it later. I guess it will take a very long time.
I've found that the colors problem is in CMYK. I've found CMYK - RGB
converters, but when i changed the Image - Color Scheme the error The file
has layer groups appears. Do you know how can I solve it?

[Gimp-user] gimp 2.8.2: any way to have advanced always expanded in jpeg export?

2012-11-16 Thread Matthew Miller
I almost always want to at least review the advanced options when exporting
to JPEG. In previous versions of Gimp, when the default options were saved,
this included whether or not the advanced dropdown was... dropped down.

Is there a way to replicate this behavior in the new version?

Suse 12.2, gimp 2.8-git branch installed in ~/gimp, compiled resynth-git

Can call heal selection and Resynthesize, but the do nothing.

Example: I have a white square with one corner missing, the corner shows
alpha. Now I select all the alpha, then call filter-map-resynth, tell it
to look 50pixel further, run it, it calculates for a minute, munches cpu
and all, and then...
Nothing.
The layer is correct, it has an alpha channel, alpha is not locked.
Tried both heal and resynth.

After all the replies, I'm a bit confused about the exact problem you
are having. If it is the problem I and others have had that the plugin
just plain doesn't work per instructions, you can probably find the
answer at:

http://registry.gimp.org/node/24243

I wrote a part of that page on how I got it to work with these notes:

BEGIN PASTE

I think I found the combination that I found before I lost all my notes
when my system / hard drives crashed.

1. Select a RECTANGULAR area you want to take the sample from. This is
NOT the texture source sample and my notes do not cover textures.

2. edit-copy

3. edit-paste as-new image

4. Switch to the new image.

5. Go to the layers window

6. Remove the alpha layer - The critical piece

7. Go back to the image you are editing. Select a target area you want
to fill with the sample from step 1.

8. Now filters-map-resynthesize should allow you to select the newly
created source image.

This works on SuSE Linux 11.1 with resynthesize v. 0.16-1.2

END PASTE

If you are having a compile / crash problem, then the answer lies elsewhere.

Good luck,

Jim

[Gimp-user] 8x10 photo without cropping...

2012-11-16 Thread jenn golden
Hi - I am a bit of a newbie to this prog. And the issue I am having, is
that I created a Magazine cover using my son's football pic. To make a long
story short - I can create a fabulous 4x6, but when I try to send it out to
blow up to an 8x10, it crops way too much of the cover... How do I save or
edit the pic as an 8x10 so that I do not loose my added graphics and
artwork? Please help! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

from 4x6 to 8x10 is different ratio and either you loose some picture or
have blank space. 4x6 expands to 8x12 or 6.67x10 An option, save your
additions to a layer and shrink the layer to the dimentions to fit the
intended size and merge the layer to 8x10

without carnival mirror type distortion, there is no easy change from 4x6
to 8x10.

Re: [Gimp-user] 8x10 photo without cropping...

2012-11-16 Thread Daniel Smith
I am assuming you're asking it this way too because you saved it as a
flattened version of your work? I mean, if you have a version of it
with all the layers as live text and added graphics still separate,
you could just save or copy out another of the background pic and
scale or resize to your wishes, and then re-add and size or position
the text and/or graphics according to taste, right?
Hoping you did save with layers intact somewhere.

 Hello,

I know, this might be a little bit too much for someone new to the
program, but one of the better ways to do it would be installing and
 using the liquid rescale-plugin http://liquidrescale.wikidot.com/
It will scale the image instead of cropping it, so there won't be
anything cut or borders added in. But other than the normal scale-tool,
it tries to detect important parts of the image (like faces or text) and
 keeps their proportion the same.
Feel free to email me if you decide to do it this way and need some help.

 bw,
 Tobl

Thanks! I ended up uploading the original image, then used the website
that is going to make the 8x10 to figure out where it was going to be
cropped - then took my gimp creation and adjusted accordingly - at least
now I know! :)

The Program can't start because libgdk-win32-2.0-0.dll is missing from your
computer. try reinstalling the program to fix this problem...
I have re installed UF raw three times...

You can search for libgdw-win32 in the gimp archives and get a full
explanation. But, iirc, there are two copies of libgdw-win32 on your

it.
Then you should be gold.

The error is because the not-gimp copy of libgdw-win32 is found
instead of
the gimp copy and it doesn't satisfy the program requirements, hence
the
error report.

You will get better and quicker help if you take the time to provide
better explanations of your situation. Most of us have outlived our

[Gimp-user] Sticky state of windows in Gimp 2.8

2012-11-16 Thread nitram2001
I have recently upgraded to Fedora 17 and now have Gimp 2.8 as a consequence.

As a user of Gnu/Linux I am used to using multiple workspaces, a separate
workspace for each job in hand but have found that the behaviour of Gimp 2.8 is
not to my liking. With Gimp set up in workspace 6 (say) the Gimp dialogs for
layers, tools, tool options etc. appear in my other 5 workspaces cluttering them
up. I have found no way to remove the sticky state of these little windows. I
have no problem handling the sticky state with windows of any other application
and I have had no problem with previous versions of Gimp.

Please help me find a way to remove the sticky state from these windows.

Hi gbudavid,

I could install UFRaw on Windows. You just have to obey the instructions
at [1], in the MS-Windows section. The easiest way is the first
alternative there.
Secondly the current version 0.18 of UFRaw is incompatible with GIMP
2.8.2. Please read the Bugzilla thread in [2]. The solution is either to
use GIMP 2.8.0 or - with GIMP 2.8.2 - only use UFRaw as standalone
program without merging the UFRaw binaries into the GIMP directories.

Kind regards,

Sven
