[Gimp-user] invalid 32 bit .bmp exports in 2.8.4
creating a 32 bit .bmp file in 2.8.4 is not invalid. The file cannot be read by previous gimp or other programs. Is there still a lack of windows developers? [Gimp-user] Funding a Microsoft developer
Hey, I wonder if it would be a good thing to do a Kickstarter type of campaign, to raise money to hire a developer to work on integrating the GIMP with Microsoft platforms, or to put bounties on solutions for specific bugs/issues? There's a LOT of GIMP users running Microsoft operating systems and if they tossed in an average of just a few dollars each... Just a thought. :o) Steve ___ gimp-user-list mailing list gimp-user-list@gnome.org https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list
Re: [Gimp-user] Funding a Microsoft developer
A very good idea. I cannot contribute much, but if someone were to put the effort together and a paypal link, I would be happy to kick in what I could. Have you heard of the website called FreedomSponsors? I think it is an excellent place to put bounties on solutions for bugs, issues and features. There is currently three bugs open for GIMP with bounties on: http://www.freedomsponsors.org/core/issue/?s=project_id=130project_name=GIMP If a developer were up for working on integrating GIMP with Microsoft platforms, he could propose to work on a bug over at freedomsponsors similar to how Nicolas Robidoux did: http://www.freedomsponsors.org/core/issue/78/add-other-samplers-that-properly-reduce-downsample-and-warp-images Just thought I wanted to chime in about that. :-) Bastian ___ gimp-user-list mailing list gimp-user-list@gnome.org https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list

Steve Kinney (ad...@pilobilus.net) wrote: I wonder if it would be a good thing to do a Kickstarter type of campaign, to raise money to hire a developer to work on integrating the GIMP with Microsoft platforms, or to put bounties on solutions for specific bugs/issues? We had this discussion some time ago and decided against hiring developers. In an ideal world it is supposed to be fun to work on the Gimp, we want that people work on the Gimp because they are actually fond of it and they identify with the project. Also we don't want to have a hierarchical structure based on money. It also would put us into the weird position of delegating lower tasks to the paid slave - not really something I'd look forward to... There is a notable exception: The Google Summer of Code is a great thing to reach out to new people: It is helping students that want to contribute to free software while also earning some money. The mentoring project receives some funds and - more importantly - might gain new developers sticking to the project. So if there is a student with some windows experience and wants to tackle some windows specific warts, I'm all for making it a GSoC project. There's a LOT of GIMP users running Microsoft operating systems and if they tossed in an average of just a few dollars each... They really help better by donating this money either to the Gimp project or to e.g. the libre graphics meeting, which is the coolest conference I attend. Gimp is a project distributed worldwide, which sometimes makes communication hard and development a lonely thing - LGM is a huge motivation boost there. Note that the Gimp project funds attendees to LGM, this also is true for windows developers - we need to lure them into open source development :) Bye, Simon -- si...@budig.de http://simon.budig.de/ ___ gimp-user-list mailing list gimp-user-list@gnome.org https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list
[Gimp-user] GIMP dotted lines
Hi friends, how can I draw in GIMP freehanded curved interrupted lines (dotted; dot-dash-dot; dash-dash;...) ? To create lines first with a pencil and to use then the rubber gives uneven and so unsatisfactory results. Thanks for help! Re: [Gimp-user] GIMP dotted lines
how can I draw in GIMP freehanded *_curved_* interrupted lines (dotted; dot-dash-dot; dash-dash;...) ? Hello, I guess you want to draw them freehanded as in just like the paintbrush tool. If you want to do dotted lines (as opposed to dashed ones), you can quite easily use the paintbrushitself. Just open the brushes dialog (ctrl+shift+B or windows-dockable dialogues- brushes)and select a round,(almost) hard brush. Look at the bottom of the dialogue: there you'll find a slider called 'spacing', set it to somewhere around 200 to 300 (thesofter the brush, the lower the spacing; very soft brushes might only require around 100). Nowyou can just draw with your paintbrush (or pencil) as you're used to and it will give you a nice, evenly dotted line. dashed or dot-dashed lines could also be created with paintbrush and pencil, but would require custom brushes. bw, Tobias Lunte//Tobl ___ gimp-user-list mailing list gimp-user-list@gnome.org https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list

Re: [Gimp-user] GIMP dotted lines
Hi friends, how can I draw in GIMP freehanded curved interrupted lines (dotted; dot-dash-dot; dash-dash;...) ? To create lines first with a pencil and to use then the rubber gives uneven and so unsatisfactory results. Thanks for help! Konrad -- Tobias covers it for painting simple dotted lines all right. You can also do freehand dashed lines but you will need to map your desired dash pattern onto a gradient. Gradient editor's not entirely easy to use, so I've attached a sample gradient file that can produce a simple dashed line for you (it alternates the current foreground color between opaque/transparent). So using it: 1 - On your painting tool, expand the Paint Dynamics option. Set the Fade length to a desired value and the fade repeat to sawtooth (or triangular, depending on your pattern). 2 - You'll need one adjustable dynamics (not a preset) for the next step, so if you don't have one yet, open up the Dynamics dialog list and hit its New button to create one. (You'll probably want to do this anyway, go do it.) 3 - Then bring up the Dynamics Editor (e.g. double-click your dynamics entry from the list), map Color to Fade. (Also map Angle to Direction; it makes a difference if the brush is non-round). 4 - Select a brush (round or square will do), set the brush size to your desired stroke width and paint away! Note this method is not technically perfect, but it should be close enough for casual use. -- Stratadrake strata_ran...@hotmail.com Numbers may not lie, but neither do they tell the whole truth. However, I installed 2.4.7, and it cannot read these files. The LoadImage() API function call in windows fails to read these files. My creation is: new image size 5x5 color space rgb color fill with transparency A bit of drawing and then export to .bmp. Thanks, ... what other .bmp viewers should I try?
