The threshold is remembered until you close gimp, or, if you have the "save tool options on exit" preference enabled, it's also remembered between sessions. If you want a more precise control over the range, you could duplicate the layer, use colours/map/rotate colours to map them all to white (say) and then select by colour or region, then delete the temporary layer. And the error is not in 'autoconf', but when i try the first > step: './configure' > > Should i start it differently? If the error is "configure: not found" or bash: ./configure: No such file or directory you need to run autogen.sh, using the --prefix=$HOME/opt option. Unless you have, say, 64G of RAM or more, /dev/shm isn't a good destination to use really. To build GIMP 2.10.28 on an older Debian Linux, you will need to start with building the following: libmypaint (the 1.3 branch) libgtk+2, libgdk2, glib from gnome, using jhbuild babl (with meson; i'm not sure autoconf is still supported for babl and gegl) gegl Install ALL of these into a custom prefix - if you put them into /usr/local or / you will break your system. Some of these have additional dependencies themselves. GIMP is a very large and complex program. Then finally you can take the gimp 2.10.28 source tarball and run ./autogen.sh --help, which will take a while and then list options. Then you can run it again with the options you need -- including -- prefix above all. But the Wiki page i shared with you the other day says all of this and more. If you want to build _older_ GIMP releases, don't bother - you'll need to run them in a virtual machine with the appropriate Linux release in it, e.g. using docker. And having said all of that, you do not need to rebuild GIMP to get clone working without the Alt key. I just tried here and it works fine. The one time i've seen a problem with Clone was when i had some accessibility options enabled that show the current location of the mouse pointer with concentric rings when i press control - with that enabled the clone tool stopped working. If that's not what is going on for you, try renaming your gimp profile folder and then starting gimp. OK Check also in tool options you do't have Registered selected. At the bottom right of Tool Options for teh clone tool is a Reset icon you can press, see if that helps. You can also check you have not clicked on anything in Channels - all 3 (or 4) channels should be selected. Channels is under Windows/dockable dialogues/channels You can also right-click the layer and check its properties. Under Switches, only Visible should be checked, and the two Coomposite items should both be set to Auto. Mode should be Normal but i think you already showed that was the case. Also, if the image is in Indexed mode, use Image/Mode to change it t RGB. Also make sure you do not have caps lock pressed. To compile gimp yourself you will need its dependencies - a recent enough version of gtk+ in partcular, as well as gegl and babl and mypaint, the last 3 installed into a custom prefix such as ~/opt/ to avoid breakage with the system one. https://wiki.gimp.org/wiki/Hacking:Building has an overview, you'll need to check out the 2.10 branch though, git checkout 2.10 after the git clone and before doing anything else. > > > Liam -- Liam Quin - https://www.fromoldbooks.org/ with fabulous vintage art and fascinating texts to read. https://www.delightfulcomputing.com/ Full-time "slave" in voluntary servitude ___ gimp-user-list mailing list List address:gimp-user-list@gnome.org List membership: https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list List archives: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gimp-user-list

However, are you running any screen recording software? Are you using a graphics tablet as well as a mouse (and which version)? Since you don't say, I'm guessing this is on Windows 10 - are you trying the Windows 11 preview? Did anything else change on your system? Are other programs affected? E.g. inkscape, Krita? Scan a very few, a mix of different types if possible, as you may end up doing it differently with experience. For most photos, i use 16-bit RGB at 1200dpi or higher; eventually you run into problems with the film grain. It can also help to scan a photo card, and maybe to use green paper or card behind (on top of) the prints when scanning, but this depends on the paper used for the prints. Without seeing an example i'm a little in the dark, sir, but you could try: 1. open an image 2. under the Colours menu, try Linear invert If that doesn't work OK, you can then try Colours->levels and press Auto Input Levels and see if that helps. If you still do, maybe there were some pixels around the edge that were not selected. An alternate workflow to using fuzzy select: (4) use Rectangle Select to draw a rectangle around the coin, slightly larger than the coin. (4b) use Select->Invert so the edges of the image are selected (4c) use fuzzy select on the gree but holding down SHIFT so that it adds to the selection. Now continue as before. Or, if you prefer, when you get to cropping, if gimp gives that message, use the Crop tool from the toolbox to drag a rouch rectangle around the coin. It doesn't have to be perfect (and you can adjust it), as long as it doesn't touch the coin. Then press ENTER to do the first crop. After, you can use image->crop to content, and it should work OK. slave liam > (Here the background is white and on the > picture there is only the coin.) > Thank You for Your help in advance. > > Zoltan > > Liam R E Quin ezt írta (időpont: 2021. márc. 26., > P, > 0:09): > > > On Thu, 2021-03-25 at 17:24 +0100, Zoltán Kluik wrote: > > > Dear Liam, > > > > > > Yes, the image is in RGB colour 8 bit. > > > What does it mean? > > > > Colour means as opposed to greyscale (just grey, no colur allowed). > > > > RGB means that any pixel can be in any colour, as opposed to > > indexed > > which would mean a fixed list of colours > > > > 8-bit means each of red, green, blue (RGB) can take any whole > > number > > value from 0 to 255 - this is appropriate for JPEG images for > > example. > > > > With the following image I did this: > > > > (1) open the image in gimp > > (2) select the Fuzzy Select tool from the toolbox > > (3) in Tool Options, make sure the threshold is good - i used 13. > > The > > higher this number ,the more the Fuzzy Select tool will select > > colours > > that are not quite the one you click on. > > (4) i clicked on the green background 9still with fuzzy select). > > This > > selected eveything except the coin. > > (5) i used select->grow to increase the selection by 2 pixels. Moderately, you would still need to grow & shrink the selection because it's not a 100% even green, so where the fuzzy select has a tolerance so all the green can be selected, colour to alpha will make partial transparency in places. Also, there may be tiny dots of green in the actual coins, which aren't in reach of fuzzy select but select by colour or colour to alpha would affect them. slave liam ___ gimp-user-list mailing list List address:gimp-user-list@gnome.org List membership: https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list List archives: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gimp-user-list

Sending this message again with the image compressed more, so it gets through to the list... (3rd attempt!) On Thu, 2021-03-25 at 17:24 +0100, Zoltán Kluik wrote: > Dear Liam, > > Yes, the image is in RGB colour 8 bit. > What does it mean? Colour means as opposed to greyscale (just grey, no colur allowed). RGB means that any pixel can be in any colour, as opposed to indexed which would mean a fixed list of colours 8-bit means each of red, green, blue (RGB) can take any whole number value from 0 to 255 - this is appropriate for JPEG images for example. With the following image I did this: (1) open the image in gimp (2) select the Fuzzy Select tool from the toolbox (3) in Tool Options, make sure the threshold is good - i used 13. The higher this number ,the more the Fuzzy Select tool will select colours that are not quite the one you click on. (4) i clicked on the green background 9still with fuzzy select). This selected eveything except the coin. (5) i used select->grow to increase the selection by 2 pixels. This makes sure that if e.g. there's a pet hair in the picture, it gets selected out. But this also selects the edge of the coin, which we don't want. (6) then, i did Select->shrinl and entered 1 pixel, to get back the edge of the coin. (7) Probably we don't want an ugly hard edge so i used Select->Feather by 1.5 pixels to soften the edge of the selection. (8) i did edit->cut (or Control-X), to remove the green. If you don't have the default black and white colours selected in the two small panels under the toolbox, press d to reset them to defaults and then do cut. (9) then i did Image->Crop to Content, to get rid of the extra white areas. (10) finally i exported the image. This is much faster to do than to describe. Maybe ten seconds at most. Just before exporting ,i actually also used Colours->Levelsand pressed Auto Input Levels; you may not want that; it makes the dark parts of the image black. You can get a better result by including a photo card (you can get them on ebay or from any photography shop) in the picture and using the white and the black as white and black points in Levels. It's pretty much instant although then you have to crop the photo card out of the picture. Another is to click on the colour swatch in tool options for the bucket fill. To choose from groups of similar colours, go to the Window menu and choose Dockable Dialogues->Palettes. The least obvious is probably layer modes - you will need to switch each layer back to the legacy layer modes by clicking on the icon just to the right of the layer mode drop down. The most obvious is probably that 2.8 is limited to 8-bit per channel encoding (precision). On Sat, 2020-10-31 at 22:33 +0200, Cristian Secară wrote: > > Foreground: Set Color From Colormap > Foreground: Set Color From Palette > (and the same for Background: etc.) A palette is a set of colours, which in GIMP can be given a name and saved and edited and so on. When an image is in indexed mode, it has an associated colourmap that says, for example, a pixel with value "6" is really rgb(0.1, 0.9, 0.2). A palette, if it's the right size (the right number of entries) can be used as a colourmap, but the two concepts are slightly different. There's a dock (a dialogue box) that lists lots of palettes and users can add to them, edie them, delete them. So if you're doing an anime style illustration in "flat" mode, you might have a dozen colours you're switching between, and you can keep them all in a palette. > > I don't know the context for the above, these are just strings from > the .po file, labeled as "context-action". > > In some GIMP translations (e.g. French) the color map is sometimes > translated as color palette (e.g. Colormap Menu > Menu de la palette) > and that confuses me. > > Cristi > -- Liam Quin - web slave for https://www.fromoldbooks.org/ with fabulous vintage art and fascinating texts to read. The PDF import does not know the dpi setting used for the original scans, and defaults to a very low value (72dpi as i recall, where scanned text should normally be at least 300dpi). Note also that PDF isn't a good way to store images, as the JPEG compression tends to be lossy and the images can deteriorate each time you load and export them (in any program, not only gimp). At some point you have to run without a safety harness. If you approach GIMP with the mindset that the program evolves, and tutorials you find might not work exactly, then you'll have a lot more resources available to you. The best tutorials teach this and also give explanations for each step, so later you can go back and learn to make up your own methods. My own favourite book is "The Artist's Guide to GIMP" and again it's for an older version, but again, all the tutorials become out of date. On Linux you can arrange to have two versions installed and start them with gimp -n (new instance); probably also on Mac; i don't know about Windows, but in principle you could, especially if you don't run both at the same time. -- Liam Quin - web slave for https://www.fromoldbooks.org/ Full-time slave in voluntary servitude ___ gimp-user-list mailing list List address:gimp-user-list@gnome.org List membership: https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list List archives: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gimp-user-list

When you click on the image with a brush, what happens exactly? When you drag, what happens? In tool options for the paintbrush, is the Mode (at the top) set to Normal? Just below the Mode, is Opacity set to 100% ? Are Brush Dynamics set to Off? Make sure also that Anti erase, near the bottom of tool options, is not selected. This makes the operation super easy. Under Guides in tool options, select Number of Lines and move the slider to 24 or so. 4. click on the image, and some lines should appear. These are the guidelines you just chose; if you want more, you can move that slider again. 5.Your goal is to make the guidelines parallel to the edge of the paper in the photograph. to do that, drag the corners. You'll need to zoom in and out a bit with the + and - keys (+ may be shifted on yuor keyboard). 5. when it's about right, press ok (or Transform) in the little floaty dialogue in the image window. It might say something else depending on your anguage of course. 6. use image->flatten image, to remove any transparency. This step isn't needed in all gimp versions. 7. use the crop tool if needed to trim the picture 8. use file->export and export to a new png file. 9. reward yourself with a chocolate. :) slave liam (ankh on IRC) -- Liam Quin - web slave for https://www.fromoldbooks.org/ ___ gimp-user-list mailing list List address:gimp-user-list@gnome.org List membership: https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list List archives: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gimp-user-list

You may also need to take the 8.5x11 paper try out of the printer before it will try other sized paper.
