[Gimp-user] Problem with colorify Hue-Saturation
I have an RGB image (as set by Image-Mode) which is currently black shades of grey. I want to alter this, in its entirety, so it is blue shades of blue (a specific colour of blue). I have tried to vary Hue-Saturation and to colorify (manual says colorify should work on RGB) but although the tools come up on screen, when I adjust the colours in the dialog box my image does not change (I have preview turned on). The maybe easiest way to do this is to create a new layer atop the Background layer. Fill it entirely with the color of your choice. Then set the lays more to Color. [Gimp-user] Fix photo with uneven exposure
I am very grateful for any advice anyone would care to offer!!! Hi! As already mentioned, there are several ways to correct such things. To equalize the brightness levels you could use my tutorial here: http://www.gimpusers.com/tutorials/equalize-homogenize-brightness After that you'll get something similar to the attachment: equalize. Apply contrast now using the levels tool (Color / Levels) and move the rectangles as seen in the image: levels. The final result will be an image with mostly white background and well readable text. Hope that helps! [Gimp-user] Background
In my webpage header I putted a logo. First, I made the logo background (which was white) transparant in GIMP and saved the file. Second I putted the logo in my header, yet the logo doesnt seem to be transparant as it is in the saved file because the blue header background colour is lighter at the place of the logo. Hi Robert, you can easily manipulate transparency values in different color adjustement tools. One could be Colors / Curves. Be sure to check the Alpha channel where you can handle all the (semi)transparent pixels. Then move the bottom point a little to the right, in the background you'll see that the slightly gray pixels will vanish and the background will shine through completely. See tge attached file for more clarification. [Gimp-user] How to design new GIMP themes from scratch
Hi guys, I've been using GIMP for years now, even professionally for the last year. There's one thing I still haven't ever done, and would love to do: designing a new interface for GIMP from scratch. I'm just not sure how to go about it. I could of course take the images of another theme and edit them as I see fit, and publish the final result as a new skin. But I don't want to do that - I want to do a proper job and design one from scratch. I have searched for a tutorial about this, but strangely enough, haven't found any. The graphical part is not an issue. It's the technical part I'm not sure about, like for example: - how do I make sure I get all the necessary image files? Is there an encrypted theme file or something I have to unzip or whatever? - are there any additional programs I need to use to do that? - same for putting it together: Do I need to compile the images into a theme file, and if so, what program do I need for that? And also: - are there any tutorials around about this that I might have missed - is there a popular location where new GIMP theme are hosted and shared? There are obviously people who know how to do this, since there are plenty of good themes around. I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out with this. Thanks in advance! Afaik you'll have to really get into GTK2 theming because GIMP 2.8 is mostly based on GTK2 to my knowledge - only some widgets are used from gtk3. However themeing in gtk2 and gtk3 is taking place differently. In GTK3 it's mostly CSS based while in gtk2 it's not. I however cannot give you more information about the theming itself, the only thing I tried was to theme the whole desktop environment (Ubuntu) and it also affected GIMP of course. But it was too time-intense so I skipped that ;) -- devvv (via www.gimpusers.com/forums) ___ gimp-user-list mailing list gimp-user-list@gnome.org https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list

[Gimp-user] Questions about gimp compairing gimp to PS
I have photoshop, and i have gimp installed, and I dont know much about gimp and how it is compaired to Photoshop I want to stop using photoshot and only use gimp, exclusivly. i have a few questions in general im still figuring out gimp and how to use it like photoshop. so i can get back to doing what i normally want to do, that i was doing with photoshop #1: in over all view how does gimp stack up to Photoshop and all of its features, are they compairable? to each other. GIMP has all of the basic stuff you need for image manipulation. the only thing is, that you sometimes don't have the comfort of Photoshop. also some special stuff is not available, for instance GIMP has no Pantone® colors availabe. but for most people GIMP will be a sufficiant alternative to photoshop. there is no list available that compares all the features. some features are comparable, others are not (almost all of the color correction tools have a counterpart, basic filters do, some other filters don't have a pendant in GIMP) – but it was never GIMPs intention to be a free PS – is beeing developed in its own way! #2: are gimp's tool's brushes filters and ect.. are they as good as photoshop. do they give the same quality output that PS does? the brushes are great, there are hundreds of them available in the web to enhance GIMP. they give you the same quality output. GIMPs brushes engine is getting more awesome with every release. #3: is there anyway to install all of the availbe plugs for gimp, in a easy, effenct method/,manner, or do i have to download them all and do it that way? no, sadly, there is no plugin control center or something like that yet. there are some filter packages available however which are pretty nice. i.e. the gimp fx foundry http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimpfx-foundry/files/?source=navbar. the G'MIC plugin itself contains hundreds of filters. #4: is their gpu support like photoshop to speed up rendering? not yet, but it's in the works #5: how fast is gimp compaired to PS when rendering not just 3d also 2D paintings such as the ones seen on deviantart, thats what i do most of the time. w/o gpu support currently definitely at least a bit slower but with upcoming gpu/multicore support this will be hopefully improved in future releases of GIMP. however gimp is not slow at all when opening/viewing images. #6; does gimp make use of muti-cores when doing rendering photos and images, ect.. not yet, but it's in the works. currently you can only use multiple cores if you process different filters at once, but the same filter cannot work faster with more cpu cores right now. at least thats what I think. what do you mean with rendering? # 7; what is the core limit with gimp, are there any? I don't know, I guess the limit is higher then your computer could offer ;) #8 thank you all for your time effort, in reading this and if you provide an, answer thank you very much. you're welcome! In ending this msg, thank you my ninja's. for ninjaing this question. :) -- devvv (via www.gimpusers.com/forums) ___ gimp-user-list mailing list gimp-user-list@gnome.org https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list
[Gimp-user] Gimp 2.8 and Windows 8
Ok I just got this computer with windows 8! I've downloaded GIMP 3 times (2 different sources) and each time I click open (there is no run option) my mouse turns into the little loading symbol and then nothing happens. It shows up in task manager as running, but nothing comes up at all. Even when I end task and try to delete the file it doesn't work. Help I really need to use GIMP :( I just tried it on Windows 8 and it works very fine for me. When you're launching it for the first time it takes pretty long to start up. Did you just give it some time before killing the task? [Gimp-user] gimpusers.com mailing list connection (changes)
Dear GIMP developers and readers of the gimp-user mailing list, as you probably know gimpusers.com is providing a forum-like Web interface that is connected to the official mailing lists, so that users who are not familiar or don't want to use mailing lists can use this way of communication too. In the past, every posting that was made using our Web interface was connected to gimp-user mailing list automatically and without exceptions. We have completely reworked the forum in the last weeks, so that it is now possible to choose whether a certain thread should be connected to the mailing list. We have made this because there may be discussions on gimpusers.com that are not really on-topic on the list. It will be a symbiosis of a basic forum and a mailing list connection. Some of the new stuff that concerns the list connection: * Users can choose if they want to connect/share a new thread with the list. * Readability and quoted stuff in the Web interface has been made much more user-friendly and uses more available space. * Detection of user signatures (where possible) * Custom author names have been removed. gimpusers.com users now always post under their gimpusers nick name. * Attachments are now possible. They're not attached to the list email itself (too much traffic) - instead we provide a link to view them online. * more automatic preventive measures agains spam (including recaptcha for every message that could go to the list) * All development list (dev list, gegl developers, gimp.org web list) threads are read-only from the Web interface * Names of authors that are writing via their email program are not trackable in any kind to remain a certain level of privacy. I hope you like the new style. If you have any suggestions, ideas, wishes or complaints concerning the mailing list connection please let us know directly to t...@gimpusers.com. [Gimp-user] gimpusers.com mailing list connection (changes)
My opinion: either continue to have the forum mirror the list, or do not have them connected at all. mixing contents of different sources will confuse users a lot and will annoy people on the mailing list if forum users refer to threads which did not appear there. Thanks for the input. There will not be much mixing. If a user wants to share his thread with the mailing list she/he can do so. The setting is per-thread, so all replies will be sent to the list too (we don't allow a user posting a _reply_ to choose if he/she wants to share it or not). We will only disconnect or close a thread if there is spam or too much annoying stuff in it so that a user of our forum doesn't bother mailing list readers. Also if a user refers to another thread of the forum that was not shared previously it would be the same as linking to content of an external website. It is normal to link to stuff outside with a reference. I don't think that this will be much of a problem – however if I'm wrong we'll surely find a solution. [Gimp-user] Specific personal tool preferences.
What I want to know is if there is a way to make a hotkey or at all save specific options for specific tools. Let's say I'm using the 'Paintbrush, Opacity 70%, Hardness 075, Size 4.00' as my standard outline tool. Can I some how save that preference (and any other tool such as Specific Eraser Op. 100%, Hard. 100, Size 10.00) so that I can easily switch between Ouline Brush and Specific Eraser . Maybe to the 'f-buttons' I'd like to be able to make maybe 5 specific tools: -Outline Brush -Small Eraser -Big Eraser -Detailed Color brush -Big Color Brush. See what I'm asking for? I hope there is a way to solve this, really like GIMP so far! Tyvm /Emil Did you try the tool presets? Available from windows / dialogues. There you can save specific tool options as you want it.
