I'm guessing you mean a drawing tablet, with a stylus. Huion and Wacom are likely brands, and you can get used ones fairly cheaply. Which one to get might depend somewhat on which Linux distribution you use - or if it's Mac OS X or Windows or some other operating system... so do a Google search first e.g. for "Wacom bamboo gimp", or whichever tablet you are considering. If you're here in Canada, Kijiji is a good source, especially in urban areas; if not, there's also eBay. [Gimp-user] Tablet issues
I've been trying to get pen sensitivity working properly, but the steps I've been reading are creating unintended behavior. Specifically, when I go to Extended Input devices, and attempt to set the tablet to screen or windowed in the appropriate dropdown, using the pen anywhere only attempts to open a dropdown (as if I had right-clicked using the mouse). The only way the pen works at all is if it is set to 'disabled', but that prevents me from having any sort of pressure control. Hi, I recently got a tablet (1060PLUS Huion) and I tried to use it on GIMP. I enabled it in input devices and followed a couple of tutorials on YouTube on how to enable pressure sensitivity and such but some things are off. For one, I'm unable to draw lines in GIMP when I stroke my pen across the tablet. There is also no pressure sensitivity whatsoever. Hi! I'm using a new tablet for the first time and I can't figure out what's going wrong. It works fine initially, but pressure doesn't work. As soon as I put the input device option to screen it goes haywire. The cursor is trapped at the top of the screen, the right click menu starts spamming and it just generally stops working. It goes back once I put it back to disabled. I use an UGEE tablet if that helps. [Gimp-user] Tablet not working properly
I just wanted to leave an update in case anyone else is still having this problem. I emailed Huion support and here's the instructions they sent me: Here's a step by step to reinstall, please try and see if it works(If you are using Mac system, please skip 3-4 steps): 1. Log out the Huion driver, close all drawing programs you are running, close your anti virus software. 2. Uninstall the Huion driver from control panel. 3. Find the "TabletDriver" folder from C:\Program files\ and delete it. (If you are not able to find this folder, that means you have deleted it already, and you may skip this step.) 4. Go to C:\windows\system32 or C:\windows\system64, find "wintab32.dll" and delete it. 5. Unplug the USB cable. 6. Download driver from Huion website (https://www.huiontablet.com/support/) and install it as an Administrator. 7. Reboot the computer and wait until it finishes rebooting. 8. Plug the tablet back in. I had a few issues with their instructions. The wintab32.dll file was actually in C:\windows\sysWOW64. That was the first thing. Also, the file wouldn't delete because it was open in Malwarebytes Tray Application. I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to close the program, so I ended up deleting Malwarebytes off my computer for the moment. But then the file still wouldn't delete because it was open in OneDrive, then DropBox. So I exited those programs as well. After getting all the original Huion files off my computer, I downloaded the driver from the link they gave me. I forgot to restart my computer and tried out the tablet on GIMP and krita and had the same problem as before. Then I realized I needed to reboot. So I did that, and then everything worked perfectly! I really don't know what I did wrong when I first installed the drivers, but I guess if the problem is solved now, I don't need to dwell on that. For the record, I still have the older version of GIMP installed (2.8.18) that someone else on this thread suggested. This version also helped me with another little issue I had where the icons were too small for a normal human to see. [Gimp-user] Tablet issues GIMP 2.6
Has anyone else seen this type of issue before? This is on a brand new install of Linux Mint 12 and GIMP is installed from Synaptics. I have seen this same behavior several times when installing Mint/Ubuntu and using the package manager across two totally different physical machines. However, on the same install(have not done on this machine yet), building 2.7.x from source(git) does NOT have this problem. The tablet is a Wacome Bamboo Fun CTE-650. Note that the problem seems to have popped up on Ubuntu 11.10 as I don't remember it happening on previous version, but I won't swear to that as I have installed my Laptop several times (turns out it is likely a hardware issue with the power controller "card" going bad instead of software issues as I thought.. hence the reinstalls) in the past 4-5 months or so(whenever 11.10 came out, I installed it the same day.) Here is link to a picture showing the funky behavior. Basically, in the image, I am drawing a line roughly diagonally from the top right to bottom left and GIMP freaks out and "draws" a line either to the top or right of the image. Note that it's fairly inconsistent.. sometimes it will happen not happen at all for several "lines" other times it might happen multiple times in a single line(as in the screenshot). Also, I can't say one way or another if the issue has to do with direction of the line, but I think I have reproduced drawing in other directions also. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/77426/Screenshot%20at%202012-01-15%2019%3A47%3A46.png ___ gimp-user-list mailing list gimp-user-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list
Re: [Gimp-user] Tablet
In my experience (GIMMP 2.4 thru 2.6, Windows XP, Wacom Intuos 3) sometimes GIMP has trouble detecting the tablet during its startup routines. If this happens then you can still use the tablet to interact with interface elements (toolbars, menus, etc.) but when attempting to draw with it it will either react like a normal mouse cursor (i.e: no pressure sensitivity) or fail to do anything at all. You can confirm this by going to your GIMP's Edit > Preferences, under Input Devices click "Configure Extended Input Devices" and if GIMP says none are found then this means it didn't detect the tablet at all. In which case, first try rebooting GIMP (after attempting to use the tablet, of course) and see if that makes a difference. -- Stratadrake strata_ran...@hotmail.com Numbers may not lie, but neither do they tell the whole truth. Re: [Gimp-user] Tablet
There should be some response if the tablet itself will actually move the mouse. If it clicks, it should be received by the GIMP. The other thing you have to do to get the GIMP to read your tablet is enable it in the user preferences. This is under Edit>preferences Then go to the label that says Extended Input Devices. From there it's not so bad.
