I know you side that you've searched here, but the 'Create Soft Glassy Buttons'
tutorial seems pretty good, and maybe also the 'Orb-Icons For Websites'. Just
reading through them might give you some ideas on how you could make the exact

changes the function to the paintbrush. How can I get it to stop doing this so

Running Gimp 2.8.6 on Ubuntu 13.10, 3Gb RAM, 1.6Ghz dual core laptop.
Gimp has been working just fine until two or so weeks ago, around the same time
