There are a couple of scenarios where it is desirable to post dividends in
the security account even though it does not affect the security, it does
affect your ROI. One is for certain report s and the other is when the
user reports dividends by ex dividend dates instead of payment dates.

I just checked and found that the Android app called GnuCash is still in
the Google Play Store. It has not been supported for several years now.
The developer has effectively abandoned it. I think it was intended to be
a portable bucket to collect transactions for later import into the real
GnuC
The place where you enter the currency name for an alternative currency is
in the settings for the accounts where you plan to use that currency.

If I understand correctly, what you expected was a chart of accounts with
one asset account for checking and all other accounts lumped under
expenses. Maybe one account for income.
You should be able to get to that result with an import from Quicken but
it may take some or perhaps a lot
What you need to do is start a new file and position those expenses
correctly under the the top expense level during the import process. That
is not really very hard with a couple of expendable tries to see how it
works.

transaction import feature has been greatly improved and includes the
ability to save and re-use settings .
It definitely works to import investment transactions previously exported
from GnuCash, so it should work with generic
