Hello again,

No reaction to my previous post.

The list of files under gnucash are all dated 5 Feb 2018 should
there be something more recent?

TIA for any reply

Re: [GNC] Lost Files

2021-02-19 Thread Adrien Monteleone
I'm not sure about the cause of the initial crash, but it sounds like
you might have been using a different file when the crash happened. Upon
re-launching GnuCash, it opened a different file from back when you had
that report opened and then closed GnuCash. (last saved state of that file)

Do you normally start GnuCash by double-clicking files, or by clicking
the app icon?

Do you see files in your data folder with date/time stamps preceding the
.gnucash extension but otherwise named like your book?

If so can you determine by modified date which file you were last using?

Finally, any reason you haven't moved to 4.4?

Adrien

Hi Michael,

I suspect your data files are OK but they are not where you think they are.
Sounds like you have hit a bug that has already been fixed in the latest
version. Either update to 3.2 or edit your .gcm file and replace both -32000
figures with 0 before starting GnuCash.

See https://bugs.gnucash.org/show_bug.cgi?id=796256

Thank you for your very helpful advice.  I found the missing file in a
different directory. However, the file opened as a minimized icon on the
task bar, which I could not expand or read.  I was able to take a copy
of the immediately preceding backup, which opened normally.  I am now
using an updated file from this backup as my master.

I suspect that the change of location resulted from my attempts to open
the minimised file, while I was searching through the history.

[GNC] Lost Files

2018-07-18 Thread Michael Berkson via gnucash-user
I have lost all ledger and log files between 13 Oct 2017 and 15 July
2018.  Unbelievably, they are also missing from my off-line back up.

On 14 July 2018, I tried to open GnuCash.  The sequence appeared normal
until completion of user data download, when the file opened as a
minimized icon on the task bar, which I could not expand or read.
Since then every attempt to open GnuCash brings up  the 13 Oct 2017
version updated only by scheduled credits.

I am using GnuCash 3.1.  My operating System is Windows 10 Professional
and my preferred browser is Firefox 61.0.1 (32-bit).

I have run a System Restore and two lost file programs, EaseUS Data
Recovery and DiskDigger, without success.

Can you please help me to retrieve my missing accounts.
