[Goanet]How Patel changed Indian skies

Excerpt on Airports from http://us.rediff.com/money/2005/jan/29spec.htm

Grounded?

If there is one thing that could ground Praful Patel's well-crafted plans it
is the state of the country's airports. All the international airports are
bursting at their seams, while the domestic airports are in no position to
cope with additional flights.

Patel says he is aware of the problem and is embarking on an ambitious Rs
50,000 crore (Rs 500 billion) project to upgrade the airport infrastructure
in the country.

The airport modernisation plan will start with the privatisation and
upgradation of Delhi and Mumbai airports. In the second phase the other two
metro airports -- Kolkata and Chennai -- will be upgraded through
public-private participation.

Simultaneously, he has kicked off an exercise to develop 23 non-metro
airports. To generate funds for the development of these airports, the
government will undertake commercial development of the city facing land
of these airports.

To this effect, the Airports Authority of India has shortlisted two
consortiums, one led by Ernst Young and the other by UTI Bank, to come up
with a detailed business plan for 10 airports within the next three months.

AAI is expected to come out with another tender for the remaining 13
airports shortly. The consultants are required to ascertain how the land
owned by these airports can be commercially utilised.

Various possibilities like setting up shopping malls, multiplexes and hotels
are likely to be considered. Some of these airports are known to own 80-100
acres of land, which can be developed for a range of commercial activities.

Once this exercise is closed, another 30 airports will be taken up for
upgradation.

Besides, Patel also plans to develop greenfield airports with an investment
of over Rs 6, 000 crore (Rs 60 billion) in Goa, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Kannur
and the multi-modal international hub in Nagpur.

[Note: Bangalore and Hyderabad greenfield airports are deemed to be already
in process -- PST]

2005-01-29 Thread Eustaquio Santimano
JCT beat Salgaocar 3-1
January 29, 2005 20:38 IST
JCT Mills beat Salgaocar Sports Club 3-1 in a National Football League
match at Guru Nanak stadium in Ludhiana on Saturday.

After a barren first half, JCT's Hardeep Gill opened the account in the
54th minute and 20 minutes later Sukhjinder increased the lead with an
impressive goal from out side the box.

Sukhjinder did not give any chance to Salgaocar's goalkeeper Juje Siddi to
even reach near the ball.

In the 86th minute, Salgaocar reduced the margin through Bernard Pires who
scored from a penalty.

JCT increased the lead further when Manjeet's powerful kick was well
blocked by the Salgaocar custodian Siddi but the ball deflected off his
gloves to Surjit who lobbed it over the goalkeeper's head.

Both JCT and Salgaocar now have six points each but the Goans are at the
fourth position, six places ahead of the Punjab outfit, on the points
table.

JCT, Punjab's premier soccer team, will next play another Goan side Vasco
Sports Club at the same venue on February 2.

[Goanet]Mohun Bagan beat Churchill

2005-01-29 Thread Eustaquio Santimano
Mohun Bagan beat Churchill
January 29, 2005 21:01 IST
Former champions Mohan Bagan rallied from behind to beat Churchill
Brothers 2-1 in the fourth round of the 9th National Football League in
Margao on Saturday.

Bagan's Brazilian striker Robeto Mendes Silva scored the winner after
substitute Sunil Chetri canceled Yusif Yakubu's strike in the first half.

With this win, Bagan have collected seven points from four matches while
Churchill, who suffered their third defeat, have one point from four
matches.

Defender Eduardo Chacon of Bagan was declared the man of the match.
Churchill, knowing well that any slip up would further dent their morale
played with determination.

Vanlal Rova, who played his first match, was a perfect foil for Yakubu as
they troubled the rival defence, took lead in the 19th minute.

A combined move between Vanlal Rova and Roque Baretto from the middle
which the latter put a forward pass that deflected rival defender and fell
on the path of Yusif Yakubu who uncorked a right-footer that found the far
end of the net to end his goal drought.

Bagan, unperturbed by the set back regrouped and were all over the rival
half but found stiff resistance from the defenders who thwarted their
moves. Roberto Mendes Silva had two chances to equalise but first his try
was well saved by keeper Vinay Singh and later his header went over the
bar.

The change of ends saw Bagan pressing more men in the attack as they
brought in Sunil Chetri three minutes before the interval in place of
Medio Jerry Zirsanga and was rewarded in the 51st minute when Sunil Chetri
headed in a free kick taken by Dharam Jit Singh from the right.

The goal enlivened the proceeding as both went into the attack. Bagan
looked more menacing nearly took the lead five minutes later when Roberto
Mendes' try off Noel Wilson's flag kick was saved on the goal line by
Godwin Franco.

Churchill bought in I M Vijayan in the closing stage in place of defender
Sanjay Parte to break the dead lock but failed to guard their goal and
Bagan punished them as Mehtab Hussein who found space on the left laid a
pass to Roberto Mendes who controlled the ball before beating keeper Singh
with a placement. Even as keeper got his hand to the ball he was not able
to put the ball out of danger.

Churchill went all out in the closing stage but their inability to convert
chances caused their downfall. Yakubu failed to capitalise on two
opportunities and then Vanlal Rova missed a sitter off a pass by I M
Vijayan.

Expressing happiness with the teams performance especially in the second
half, Bagan coach Subrata said, We were down by one goal but rose to win
the match. Roberto's goal was brilliant and it will lift the morale of the
team and keep us in good stead to play against Dempo in our next match.

We have almost finalised a deal to bring in defender Daba Lade from
Nigeria who played for Nigeria in 1998 France World Cup, he added.

On the other hand, Churchill's coach Shabir Ali was disappointed with his
team's performance that failed to convert chances and conceded silly goals.

The performances of the team have to be accessed with the team management,
as it is the question of my reputation, Ali said.

[Goanet]RE: Goa's gold was taken away forcibly to Portugal....comes back

2005-01-29 Thread jose colaco
From: Gaspar AlmeidaGoa's Pride, www.goa-world.com
Finance Minister, P Chidambaram said, When they bring these ornaments here,
they don't have to pay customs duty. It will be very unfair of me to ask
them to pay customs duty on their own ornaments, which were taken away
forcibly to Portugal.

Dear Gaspar,
Thanks for that post.
The above news item, I assume, refers to the gold held in safe-deposits and
as collateral - at the Banco Nacional Ultramarino in Goa - then transfered
to BNU- Lisbonlater Caixa Geral de Depósitos.

I am struck by Mr. Chidabaram's choice of the words taken away forcibly to
Portuga

Is this a fair statement, I ask.
Here are a few questions that I pose. Once again, I ask only because I do
know the answers:

1. What was the gold doing in Banco Ultramarino, in Goa in the first place.
2. Did the Portuguese come into the homes of Goans and confiscate this gold?
3. Was the gold stored by clients at BNU in safe deposit ?
4. Was the gold used as collateral for LOANS obtained by Goans and
Maharashtrians?
5. Have the safe deposit fees - until 1961 - ever been paid ? or have they
been deducted?
6. Have the LOANS ever been paid back by the Goans Maharashtrians who
borrowed the monies?
7. Has BNU claimed /collected / deducted any interest on the unpaid Loans?

8. What was BNU expected to do - with the gold - at the time of the 1961
invasion? Leave it?
9. WHO would be held responsible for the gold - had it been looted in the
aftermath of 1961?
10. Was there any looting in Panjim on the days Dec 19 - 21, 1961?

11. What would the State Bank of India do in a similar situation - with SAFE
DEPOSITS - in one of their branches (say in Fiji or in Port Blair) - if
there was a chance that the Bank Officials had to leave town in a hurry?

Maybe we should think about the choice of our words. What u say Mr. P
Chidambaram?

[Goanet]NEWS ANALYSIS: JUGGLING MLAs PROVES PARRIKAR'S UNDOING

2005-01-29 Thread goanet-news-service
Goa BJP government reduced to a minority

FROM PAMELA D'MELLO

Panaji, Jan 29: Juggling MLAs in and out of government has snowballed into a
political crisis for the Manohar Parrikar government who was reduced to a
minority on Saturday. Four BJP MLAs resigned from their assembly seats, while
two coalition ministers resigned from cabinet, withdrawing support to the BJP
led government.

The Congress has staked its claim to form a government, with 19 MLAs in the
reduced house of 36, including support from the NCP, two regional parties and
an independent. The BJP has 17 MLAs, in the fluid numbers game that is
unfolding here.

No decision came from Governor S C Jamir's office which held meetings with
opposition claimants and state officials through the day. Mr Jamir flew back
from Kolkata via Mumbai this morning as political events escalated with a
ministers demotion and resignation late Thursday night.

Addressing a press conference this afternoon, Chief Minister Parrikar
maintained he would prove his majority on the floor of the house and accused
the Governor of playing a partisan role.

A majority is decided only on the floor of the House and not on the lawns of
the Raj Bhavan, a defiant Mr Parrikar said.

Both camps have expectedly huddled their MLAs together, the Congress in a five
star seaside resort outside Panaji, while the BJP camp were camped in the
capital.

Mr Parrikar's first serious challenge to his four and a half years in office,
came when he demoted financier-politician Atanasio Monserrate, who resigned on
Friday morning. Working on strategies chalked out over Friday, Mr Monserrate
and three neo-BJP MLAs, including Francisco Micky Pacheco -- who joined the
BJP only on Thursday -- Isidore Fernandes and transport minister Pandurang
Madkaikar gave in their resignations to the Speakers office.

All four BJP MLAs have resigned their assembly seats, to avoid
disqualification under amended Anti Defection Laws, and are expected to seek
re-election.

Simulataneously, PWD minister Ramakrishna Dhavlikar and Water Resources
minister Philip Neri Rodrigues, joined a Congress led delegation to Raj
Bhavan, and submitted their resignations as ministers. Officer bearers of the
regional MGP and UGDP parties have given letters of support to the Congress-
NCP combine.

Congress general secretary in charge of Goa affairs Ms Margaret Alva
accompanied the delegation to the Raj Bhavan and flew back for consultations
with the party high command in New Delhi.

Ms Alva is expected to return tommorrow, even as CLP members left it to 10
Janpath to decide the leadership issue.

Mr Parrikar's fate hinges to some extent on the UGDP tourism minister Mathany
Saldanha who is currently in Spain to attend a tourism mart. The UGDP has
pledged support to the Congress but Mr Parrikar said he enjoyed the support of
Mr Saldanha, irrespective of his party stand.

With four members resigning, the house strength stands at 36, with the
Congress and allies claiming a total of 18, the BJP at 17 and Mr Saldanha
still out of the country.

In a crucial floor test, political watchers calculate the Congress has an edge
of one, accounting for the jubiliation in their camp.

The irony of the political farce being enacted here in Goa's theatre of the
political absurb has not however been lost on some. BJP MLA Isidore Fernandes
had in August 2004 resigned from the Congress and won a by-election on a BJP
ticket a month later -- only to repeat the resignation drama today.

Francisco Pacheco had on Thursdary merged his one man outfit with the BJP, and
said it was tit for tat that he was walking out of the assembly
precipitating a crisis for Mr Parrikar on Saturday.

Assembly polls in May 2002 had given the BJP 17 to the Congress 16, while two
regional parties the NCP and an independent had backed the BJP over the past
two and a half years. Poaching MLAs from his coalition partners and shuffling
support soured relations in the coalition, over time. (ends)

[Goanet]Do Goans deserve alleged most corrupt former Minister Mr Atanasio Monseratte as the new Chief Minister?

2005-01-29 Thread Cip Fernandes

Man with a Needle
The Navhind Times

THE taking away of the town and country planning portfolio from Mr Atanasio
Monseratte( which hurt him so much that he dashed off his resignation to the
Chief Minister past midnight) came as a surprise not just to the go-getter
minister but also to the members of the public. Why, it was less than three
weeks ago that both the Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar and Mr
Monseratte had dismissed reports of his resignation as rumours. Reiterating
his support for Mr Parrikar, Mr Monserrate said at a press conference that
there were absolutely no differences between him and Mr Parrikar. He went to
the extent of attributing the rumours of his alleged rift with the Chief
Minister as the concoction of vested interests. These statements from the
Chief Minister and Mr Monserrate had come in the wake of rumours that the
Congress had offered Mr Monserrate the office of the chief minister, and
that he was walking out with two or three other ministers, and his friend,
Mr Isidore Fernandes, whom he helped win the byelection to the Ponguinim
Assembly constituency.

So the question arises: what went wrong during the less than three weeks
that Mr Parrikar thought it to be an urgent enough task to strip Mr
Monserrate of the town and country planning portfolio without taking him
into confidence? That this divestment is not the usual kind of reshuffle is
obvious also from the fact that all other ministers have retained their
portfolios. It is quite true that a reshuffle is the prerogative of the
Chief Minister; he can assign any minister any portfolio, according to who
he considers suitable or unsuitable for a particular area of governance.
What was it after all that made Mr Parrikar decide that Mr Monserrate, who
had run the town and country ministry from day one of coming into his
ministry, had proved unsuited to the running of it? Did any disturbing
evidence speaking of Mr Monserrates misgovernance in the ministry surface
before him all of a sudden? Mr Parrikars statement that he was not
satisfied with the performance of Mr Monserrate still leaves it unexplained
why the bad performance was tolerated by a dynamic Chief Minister for so
long. The circumstances under which it has happened do not suggest that it
was a routine exercise of Chief Ministers discretionary powers. It had all
the elements of an extraordinary act.

Why did the divestment come when till only yesterday both the Chief Minister
and Mr Monserrate were publicly reaffirming their confidence in each other?
After all, Mr Parrikar included Mr Monserrate in the ministry, and gave him
the town and country planning portfolio that he demanded. Despite a lot of
opposition, Mr Parrikar allowed Taleigao to be cut out from the jurisdiction
of the municipal corporation of Panaji, since it was what Mr Monserrate
insisted upon. There were numerous occasions when there were differences of
opinion between the local leaders of the BJP and Mr Monserrate in Taleigao,
which once or twice reached a boiling point, but Mr Parrikar intervened and
defused the crisis, usually by persuading his partymen to make adjustments
with him keeping in view the larger interest of partys continuance in
power.

Then came a time when Mr Parrikar had Mr Monserrate leave his United Goans
Democratic Party and join the BJP. What could be more comprehensive
assurance of no trouble from Mr Monserrate than his being baptized as a
Hindu holy warrior! But all the spraying of the blessed water and all the
loud profession of loyalty to the cause of ensuring Goas rapid development
with a stable government turned out to be of little significance when Mr
Monserrates alleged courtship with some of the men in the opposition camp
wouldnt stop. What would also not stop was the Mr Monserrates
single-minded campaign to change the rules of the game in real estate
development. Adding to the proof of his determination came the creation of
planning and development authorities for several towns and inclusion of
villages in them.

The very fact that taking away of the town and country planning ministry
from Mr Monserrate came with Mr Parrikars decision to exclude the villages
that were included in the PDAs by Mr Monserrate provides some clue to the
suddenness of Mr Parrikars action. Probably with the decision of Mr
Monserrate to turn up certain village areas for real estate development the
Chief Ministers cup of compromises was full. Cant take any more of it,
he seems to have told himself, and decided to pierce a needle into the Big
Bubble called Monserrate. The compulsion of seeking help from Mr Monserrate
to stay in power eventually proved a bitter experience to Mr Parrikar. But
will it be any better with Mr Micky Pacheco?

[Goanet]Yahoo! India News - UK Hindus fight to reclaim swastika from Nazis

2005-01-29 Thread Ricardo Nunes
 By Paul Majendie

LONDON (Reuters) - Hindus have launched a campaign in Britain to reclaim
the swastika from its Nazi past and reinstate the 5,000-year-old emblem as a
symbol of good luck.

They were stung into action when European parliamentarians called for a
Europe-wide ban on Nazi insignia after Britain's Prince Harry provoked
international outrage by wearing a swastika armband and Nazi costume at a
party.

What we have decided to do is to reclaim the swastika, said Ramesh
Kallidai, secretary-general of the Hindu Forum representing 700,000 Hindus
in multi-cultural Britain.

He said of the Hindu religious symbol purloined by Adolf Hitler for his
National Socialist Party: It has been used for 5,000 years to promote life.
It brings good luck and wards off evil.

Ever sensitive to the concerns of millions of Jews who suffered the horrors
of the Nazi Holocaust, he told Reuters: For Hindus, the misuse of the
swastika is as repulsive as it is to everyone else.

It's like saying the Ku Klux Klan is burning crosses so let's ban the use
of crosses worldwide.

Pictures beamed worldwide of Queen Elizabeth's grandson wearing the Nazi
uniform at a costume party prompted deputies in the European parliament to
call for a ban on Nazi insignia, an idea that the European Commission said
was worth considering.

The Hindu Forum was inundated with calls over the proposed ban, said
Kallidai. If it came into force, that would mean if Hindus use the swastika
for religious purposes as they have done for 5,000 years, they risk breaking
the law.

First came a media campaign to put their case. Then Hindus pressed
parliament to debate the issue and lobbied deputies both in London and
Strasbourg to support them.

Next comes a major conference in London and public awareness workshops
across Britain.

We have already spoken to the Board of Deputies of British Jews and want
to have a dialogue with them. Everyone must understand that the swastika has
nothing to do with hatred and is purely for worship.

A spokesman for the Jewish Board told Reuters: We respect the Hindu
Forum's desire to take back the Swastika but our line of caution is that
Neo-Nazis and racists continue to use the Swastika as a potent symbol of
hatred.

To the millions who suffered in World War Two, the swastika is a loathed
emblem of hatred, racism and xenophobia.

But to Hindus, it is a revered symbol, derived from the Sanskrit svastika
and meaning Good to be.

In Gujarat, when a baby has its first haircut, a swastika is painted on
the top of its head to ward off evil. You find it on the door of the house
as a good luck charm. It appears on wedding cards and holy paintings,
Kallidai said.

But he fears it will be a tough battle eradicating the swastika's nightmare
image.

It is a very uphill climb because a 5,000-year-old symbol became
associated 65 years ago with hatred, destruction and xenophobia, said
Kallidai. This could take a number of years.

After about 44 years, about 1,800 Goan families will
get to see their family jewels. The jewellery
travelled to Portugal after the liberation struggle
and got stuck in the customs net. CNBC-TV18 looks at
the how this gold was finally liberated.

This story dates back to 1961, when gold jewellery
pawned by Goans left Indian shores to Lisbon in
Portugal, after the liberation. Thirteen years back
all the gold came back but 1,800 families ran out of
luck as an amendment in the denied them access to the
family treasure. Now the finance minister has stepped
in to ensure that these families get their jewellery
back.

Finance Minister, P Chidambaram said, When they bring
these ornaments here, they don't have to pay customs
duty. It will be very unfair of me to ask them to pay
customs duty on their own ornaments, which were taken
away forcibly to Portugal.

In 1992, PV Narasimha Rao's government negotiated the
release of this gold with Lisbon and authorised SBI to
import a total of 6,500 packets weighing 280 kgs.

Families were exempted from paying any customs duty on
this gold. About 4,700 families had paid up their
loans and reclaimed their jewellery. But five years
back, an amendment to the Customs Act robbed this
benefit from those who didn't reclaim by then. Around
1,800 families still had gold stuck in the SBI vault
in Goa.

A mix of luck and perseverance took care of the rest.
Another amendment to the Customs Act two years ago,
gave the finance ministry, legal ground to reinstate
the duty exemption. And persistent lobbying by
affected parties with local Congressmen reached
Chidambaram's ears last September. He obliged by
passing the order three days ago. State Bank of
India's officials expect only about 500 families to
turn up to claim their bit of history.

BJP GOVT PLUNGED INTO CRISIS IN GOA: The recent reshuffle of the ministry
proved too costly for the BJP government led by Chief Minister Manohar
Parrikar in Goa. In a surprising move, four BJP MLAs have resigned and
reduced the BJP to a minority today. The Congress Party has appealed to
Governor SC Jamir to dismiss the Parrikar government. The problem started
when Parrikar relieved Babush Monserrate of the Town Country Planning
portfolio on January 27. Monserrate considers this as an affront to his
honour, while the Chief Minister justifies his decision to strip Monserrate
for unsatisfactory performance. The other MLAs who have resigned include
Monserrate's staunch pal Isidore Fernandes from Poinguinim, Mickky Pacheco
from Benaulim and Transport Minister Madkaikar. Pacheco, a former Tourism
Minister, had rejoined the BJP on January 27 after being dropped from the
ministry six months ago. It is also understood that ministers Sudhin
Dhavlikar, Filipe Neri Rodrigues and Matanhy Saldhana have withdrawn their
support to Parrikar's ministry. The political situation is not yet clear in

Goa government about to collapse; drama begins
Sunday January 30 2005 00:00 IST
PANAJI: Goa slipped into that familiar mode of political uncertainty once
again with the Manohar Parrikar-led BJP government tottering on the brink of
collapse.

Two days after he was sacked, former minister Antanasio `Babush' Monserrate
sought his revenge by getting three other party MLAs to quit the BJP,
reducing the government to a minority. The Opposition Congress, of course,
lost no time in staking claim to form the government, triggering off
speculation of horse-trading and bargains.

Half way into its term, it's the first major crisis for the government in
Goa while governments had changed thrice in the last term.

Known for his money and muscle power, Monserrate roped in fellow party MLAs
Isidore Fernandes, Pandurang Madkaikar and Mickey Pachecho in his revolt
against Parrikar. A first-time MLA, Monserrate is reported to have interests
in money-lending and construction. While relieving him of his Town and
Country Planning ministry, Parrikar had cited charges of “administrative
corruption''.

Besides, two other ministers, Public Works Department Minister Sudhin
Dhavlikar of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party and Water Resources Minister
Philip Neri Rodrigues (Independent), who were lending outside support to the
Parrikar government have also quit. They are now backing the Congress.

The 40-member Goa Assembly has 21 BJP MLAs, 15 Congress, 1 NCP, 1
Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party, 1 United Goans Democratic Party and 1
Independent. Now, the BJP is down to 17 MLAs, including Speaker Vishwas
Sadarkar.

Ironically, Pachecho had merged his United Goans Democratic Party (Secular)
with the BJP only a couple of days back. Fernandes, on the other hand, had
quit the Congress just three months back, contesting and winning his
Poinguinium seat on a BJP ticket. Monserrate was reported to have deployed
his finances and men in winning this Congress stronghold.

Under the new anti-defection law, all four BJP rebels will have to seek
re-election. “We are confident that Monserrate will get us elected,'' said
one of them.

Interestingly, in a letter to Governor S C Jamir, Tourism Minister Matanhy
Saldanha of the UGDP has decided to stay with Parrikar. But his party
president, Radharao Gracias, said the UGDP would back the Congress.

Staking its claim to form the government, the Congress paraded its 15
members as well as the four BJP rebels, the two ministers who withdrew their
support, and the lone NCP MLA Wilfred de Souza.

“It is now the responsibility of the Congress party to form a secular
government in Goa,'' said AICC general secretary in charge of Goa Margaret
Alva, who accompanied the MLAs.

But Parrikar promised to spring a few surprises on the floor of the
Assembly. “I have the support of a few Congress MLAs who will resign from
the House,'' he told this website’s newspaper. “The Governor is playing
partisan politics and trying to topple the government.''

And, indicating the horse-trading that is likely to follow, Dhavalikar said:
“Though I have resigned from Parrikar's Cabinet, it does not mean that I
have withdrawn support to the BJP.'' This just one hour after accompanying
the Congress MLAs to Raj Bhavan.

BJP Govt in Goa reduced to minority
  By: PTI
  January 29, 2005

Panaji: The BJP government in Goa was today reduced to a minority with three
of its 21 party MLAs resigning from the 40-member state assembly and an
equal number withdrawing support to it in a sudden development that spurred
opposition Congress into staking claim to form a Government.
Atanasio Monserratte, who had resigned from the state Cabinet yesterday
after being suddenly stripped off the Town and Country Planning portfolio,
and two other ruling party legislators -- Isidore Fernandes and former
Tourism Minister Micky Pacheko -- submitted their resignation letters to the
Assembly Secretary, reducing the ruling BJP's strength from 21 to 18.

Pacheko had only on Thursday merged his United Goa Democratic Party
(Secular) with the BJP.

MGP MLA Sudhin Dhavilkar and Independent Legislator Phillip Nery Rodrigues
besides the UGDP, which were supporting the Parikkar Government, too
submitted letters to state Governor S C Jamir withdrawing their support to
the three-year-old BJP government. The UGDP MLA, who is a Minister, is on
his way back from Spain.

Meanwhile, leaders of the Congress, which has 15 MLAs and support of one NCP
member, met the Governor and staked claim to form a government. Congress
General Secretary In charge of Goa, Margaret Alva, who met the Governor
separately, told reporters we have presented our support to him. We are the
largest party and it is upto him to take a decision now.

Monserratte, who resigned from the Assembly said, I have been humiliated in
such a way that I thought it is better to go home.

The case below is interesting and is also politically motivated. Although,
the court says that the child is entitled to the fathers caste; it should
not immediately follow that the court is insistent-- that the childs
future, be determined by accepting the ruling prima facie.

The courts way of approaching the case is also a way of saying that caste
does play a role in ones life. This leads to all kinds of further questions.

[Goanet]RECEPTION TO BONAVENTURE D’PIETRO

2005-01-29 Thread A. Veronica Fernandes
RECEPTION TO BONAVENTURE D’PIETRO.
On 21st of this month in Kuwait city with the attendance of selected
invitees, well known Roman script Konkani writer “Romansi boroinar”
Bonaventure D’Pietro was given a reception by the Konkani lovers in Kuwait.
As informed earlier, Bonaventure D’Pietro was publicly honoured on 14th of
this month by Konkani Heritage Kuwait during their Heritage Musical Show 05.
While receiving the prestigious KHK Memento from the hands of KHK
President Fidelis Fernandes, Bonaventure D’Pietro was overwhelmed by the
kind gesture and the honour that was bestowed upon him by KHK. During the
reception many speakers spoke in praise of Bonaventure and highlighted some
of the aspects of his writings. All those who spoke during the function
directly or indirectly touched upon the writings of D’Pietro. Fidelis
Fernandes as a first speaker while delivering his speech eulogized in
superlative terms the greatness of Bonaventure’s “Romansi” which Fidelis
said he read. He also praised the caliber of Bonaventure’s musical skill by
even indicating the places and pieces Bonaventure played. Renowned tiatrist
Querobina Carvalho in her speech also made reference of Bonaventure’s
writings and music. Luis Cardoso of Kuwait Konknni Kendr in his historical
view compared Bonaventure’s writings to the novels written by some of the
world renowned novelists and concluded that if Bonaventure had to write in
English he would be one of the topmost writers in the world today. Mario
Rebello yet another stalwart of KKK and staunch Konkani promoter in
appreciation of Bonaventure’s good work on Konkani field presented a nice
Mobile Phone to Bonaventure D’Pietro as his personal gift. Elvino Rodrigues
the president of KKK while praising the enormous contribution of Bonaventure
in the promotion of Konkani explained the genesis of Konkani movement in
Kuwait and how, when and who started it. Young girl who is a new comer to
Kuwait and while in Goa a member of musical troupe of Bonaventure D’Pietro,
Marian Fernandes from Anjuna, Chinvar, in her beautiful speech elaborated
the good work of her guru who was responsible for bringing her and her
troupe some of the laurels thru the musical art. Rosary Ferns who has
created for himself a special niche in the art of Tiatro by writing and
producing best of dramas and singing best of songs and also producing first
Konkani CD praised Bonaventure D’Pietro for what he achieved in life. Mr.
Norman from Navelim who had great distinction of reading almost all the
“Romansi” written by Bonaventure D’Pietro, in his researchful speech
highlighted the wisdom of Bonaventure in writing so wonderfully. As a
matter of interest, Bonaventure D’Pietro recently was awarded in Goa, Fr.
Antonio Pereira Award for the excellence in Konkani promotion. It is an
annual award given in memory of late Fr. Antonio Pereira a Jezuit who has
written so exhaustively and extensively on so many subjects. A. Veronica
Fernandes compeered the proceedings.

While speaking A. Veronica Fernandes in the midst of the gathering asked
Bonaventure to raise his voice thru his mighty pen on those people in Kuwait
who are trying to commit a murder on the beautiful art of tiatro. As
everyone is aware not only in Kuwait but all over the Konkani tiatro world
that there is a gang sprung up in Kuwait to commit a crime against one
tiatrist by killing his art; the phenomenon used in this murder campaign is
“To Aslear Aum Nachona” which is blindly supported by all the yes men just
like George Orwell depicted in his masterpiece Animal Farm with an statement
“if comrade Napolean says yes, it must be yes”. And precisely because of
this blind following to comrade Napolean, communism collapsed. Replying to
this, Bonaventure D’Pietro said, “it is not necessary to write more on this,
whole world knows who is the author behind this crime on the promotion of
tiatr and a tiatrist in Kuwait Those who are responsible for committing
such a dastardly crimes they will receive their punishment “ravon na pavon”.
Further, he went on saying that history is full of evidences of the
miserable end of all those who committed crimes on the development of
somebody’s art. He also said that art is a God given blessing and if anyone
one person or group of persons try to destroy this blessing of God then they
will suffer, not only they but even their children and grand children”. It
is a pity that no right thinking and justice lovers are raising their voice
on this hara-kiri. Those who talk of justice are become dumb and those who
look for justice are become blind.

Inspite of writing so many books in Roman script, Bonaventure D’Pietro is
unable to get Sahitya Academy Award because this award is become the
monopoly of Boarkars, Kelekars, Mauzos, Naiks and those few individuals who
won the limelight due to the efforts of all the Romivadis. The books
written by Nagrivadis are not even

Quote:
“I am still the chief minister of Goa and I can prove
my majority on the floor of the House any moment”,
said Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar.

Following the resignation drama of his party
colleagues and supporting parties, Parrikar also
produced a supporting fax letter sent by his tourism
minister Mathany Saldhana, whose United Goans
Democratic Party has withdrawn support to the
government.

According to Parrikar, neither any minister has
submitted him a resignation letter nor he is aware of
any MLA resigning from the BJP.

“There is no question of meeting the governor in this
regard since I continue enjoying majority support”,
claimed Parrikar.

In a letter faxed to the chief minister, Saldhana has
stated that his support to the government is
unconditional and unqualified.

In a joint press conference held with the CM, the
state BJP president Rajendra Arlekar termed the whole
drama as the ‘10, Janapath conspiracy’.

He also alleged that Governor S C Jamir has joined
hands with the Congress. “Let the Congress prove their
majority in the House”, stated Arlekar.

Meanwhile, Speaker Vishwas Satarkar told the reporters
that he had not yet accepted BJP legislators’
resignation letters, which are being received by the
legislator secretary.

“I have not attended the office since Saturday-Sunday
are holidays”, he quipped.

With Saldhana continuing to support the government and
three BJP legislators quitting the party, the strength
of the BJP-led government is now 19, in the 37-memebr
House.

On the other hand, the 15-member Congress would get
support of three legislators, one each from the
Nationalist Congress Party, the Maharashtrawadi
Gomantak Party and the Independent, making it 18.

As the speaker is allowed to vote in case of a tie,
the Parrikar government continues having edge in the
Assembly, unless yet another member resigns from the
ruling BJP.

Congress observer Margaret Alva has already said that
the fourth resignation is in the pipeline. Transport
minister Pandurang Madkaikar was already seen in the
Congress camp at a star hotel here.

Luxury tourist train in Karnataka soon:

[India News]: Bangalore, Jan 28 : A luxury tourist train, 'Palace on

Karnataka, state Minister for Tourism D T Jayakumar informed the
Legislative Council today.

The train will cover important places of tourist interest like Mysore,
Shravanabelagola, Badami, Pattadakal, Aihole and culminate in Goa, he
said responding to a question by N Manjunatah (Local Authorities

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the project was signed by the
Karnataka government with the Ministry of Railways way back on
December 20, 2002. The Tourism Ministry accorded sanction for the
project at a cost of Rs 31.40 crore, Jayakumar said.

To another question by Madegowda (Elected by Legislative Assembly), he
said many important places of tourist interest had been selected in
the state for strategic development. These include Mysore, Brindavanm
Gardens, Srirangapatna, Kokkarebellur, Belur, Halebid,
Shravanabelagola, Hampi, Chitradurga, Nandi Hills and Jog Falls.

Building of a tourist guest house in Devala Ganagapura, a famous place
of pilgrimage in Gulbarga district was being undertaken by the Muzrai
department. However, in case there were any difficulties, tourism
department itself will complete the project, he assured in reply to a
question by Vittala (Elected by Legislative Assembly). PTI

Goan Catholics non twice-born Hindus
Re: Caste, Conversion ani Confusao

Antonio Menezes ( January 27, 2005)
I thought it would be safer to use instead the words ''non-twice-born''
to describe this overwhelming majority of social class before their
conversion to Christianity.

Sachin Phadte (Jan 27, 2005)
book with a longish article by TB Cunha on a topic somewhat linked
to the subject. It seems to me that at least on the subject of use
of religion by the Portuguese to harass the Hindus and try to force
their conversion is correct.

Gilbert Lawrence responds: (Jan 28, 2005)
In fact your account debunks a whole myth that Hindus were forcible
converted by militant Portuguese and their confrontational Catholic
counterparts. It would appear from your account, the Christian
conversion was the old fashion way - voluntary and a decision for
personal (material and / or spiritual) gain.

Jose Colaco: (Jan 28, 2005)
It is interesting to review your post vis-à-vis that from Sachin.
It is absolutely feasible (IS IT NOT) that the lower castes converted
to Christianity to get away from the generation to generation
subjugation by the higher castes? That after all is also the reason
for them to convert from Hinduism to Buddhism, Sikhism and Islam.

The horrible Caste based discrimination, and the flight of the
oppressed is well known. That does not mean that conversions to Islam
and Christianity were ALL voluntary. That, they were not.

Gilbert Lawrence: (Jan 30, 2005)
What Antonio Menezes writes and you re-emphasize about very many lower
caste Hindus joining other religions voluntarily to improve their social
and economic status is well established and documented.

What Sachin Phadte writes is unfortunately a repetition of what many
'enlightened Goans' have written and continue to write. Who were the
loudest detractors of the Inquisition in Goa? Ans: Many Goan Christaums.
This was till we requested them to post the statistics. Then some of
them wrote where THERE MAY BE some data but none that they could get
their hands on.

I look forward to Antonio Menezes for the actual documentation of his
assertions. Regards.

hello cip,

thank you for taking time off to read my post. i think you and all
other goanetters should not take this caste business seriously, which
is in any case, in this modern electronic age , is nothing but arrant
nonsense.

interested, may be, for the sake of intellectual curiosity and may
be, more for the entertainment it provides.

the word twiceborn ( in sanskrit - dwija , actually meaning more than
once ) is rather a misnomer. a soul (i.e. divine spark that escapes
from god's energy) roams all over the universe having many many
births, deaths, and rebirths not only as a human being but in animal
form as well from an ant to an elephant. the divine spark rejoins
god's ethereal form once it becomes free from all world impurities
i.e. moksha.

as to your other queries, i append below few quotations from
manusmriti which are self explanatory

in para 4 chapter10 : the brahmin (priest) , kshatriya ( ruler ),
vaisya ( trader/farmer) are the three twice born castes, but the
fourth caste the sudra has only on birth and there is no fifth caste.

para 6 to 10 : children born out of mixed caste marriages

 1) brahmin man and kshatriya woman
 2) brahminvaisya
 3) brahmi sudra
 4)kshatriyavaisya
 5)kshatriya sudra
 6) vaisya sudra
children begotten by these 6 marriages are traditionally regarded as
outcasts which is the fifth class (not caste)

para 11 to 13  then there is the sixth class that of untouchables.;
these children are from marriages in the opposite casteist direction
 1) vaisyaman and kshatriya woman
 2) vaisya brahmin
 3 kshatriyabrahmin
children ( although technically untochables ) of these three marriages
are treated rather delicately as they happen to be from the males of
the higher castes.
 4) sudra man and vaisya woman
 5) sudra kshatriya
 6) sudrabrahmin
children of the ( 4-6 ) marriages are considered to be untouchables
and the child of the sudra man and brahmin woman is considered to be
the worst untouchable of them all.

Defection law of Dec 2003 necessitates this
conditions. Therefore to ensure continuity of the
Government and avert a Presidential rule or holding
the House in suspended animation until such time a
stable Government can be put in place the idea
contemplated is to swear the resigned MLAs as
Ministers to ensure that they can continue in office
until they seek re-election within six months this is
a tall order )

But the idea is that come what may the Parrikar
Government should go and with a INC alienated Governor

and United Progressive Alliance of the Indian
National Congress and its over 20 allied this seems to
be the time opportune for the INC in Goa who have not
tasted power since 24 October 2000 and the future
seems uncertain for them until May 2007 as Parrikar
went on consolidating his reign-- It seems to be a
case of NOW or NEVER for the INC, in Goa

Mr Ramkrishna Dhavalikar does not have this problem
being the lone MGP MLA and if his defection is
confirmed he too will be a Minister.

But as of now there is certainity of atleast two of
the three resignations viz; Mr Atanasio Babush
Monserrate Mr Isidore Fernandes and Mr Francisco
(Micky ) Pacheco who just merged his lone member UGDP
secular party with the BJP less than 24 hours ago and
now has decided to support the Indian National
Congress, as the Speakers office has yet to confirm
the same (today being a non working day Saturday)

In June 2002 the elected representative were as under

11)Harish P Zantye
12)Subhash Shirodkar
13)Victoria Fernandes
14)Aleixo Sequeira
15)Ravi Sitaram Naik

But from June 2002 till date they moved as under

1) Atnasio Babush Monserate (UGDP defected to BJP)
2) Francisco (Micky) Pacheco (UGDP defected to BJP
then formed UGDP (S) then merged into BJP )
3) Isidore Fernandes resigned from INC got re-elected
on BJP

4) Mr Pandurang Madkaikar (MGP defected to BJP)

However Mr Manohar Parrikar has been claiming that
despite the resignations of the three BJP MLA's he
says that the allies are still with him.

While Mr Pandurang Madkaikar Minister for Transport
(BJP) is in Mumbai his Minsister for Tourism Mr
Mathany Saldhana UGDP is in Spain and until their
resignations are confirmed the rumours could not be
given cognizance too. Yet the same time he insists
that the strenght of the ruling side be proved on the
floor of the Assembly.

Alternatively President's rule and fresh elections
seems to be the answer is the common refrain of many
as in any case seeing

2005-01-29 Thread Antonio Menezes
i would not say that armstrong has used strong arm tactics but it is
possible to look at cuncolim's past from an entirely different angle.

to recapitulate: by the end of the 16th century, all arable lands of
velhas conquistas were in the hands of christian gaumkares or
comunidades which were also controlled by the same gaumkares. velhas
conquistas were not heavily populated in the 16th century hence there
was room for new farmers to move in as there was much surplus
uncultivable land.

the european missionaries who insisted that there was a place in the
sun even for the dharmic lowest of the low, started pressurizing the
gaumkares to part with the surplus paddyfields for the use of the
impecunious neo christian farmers coming from the surrounding areas of
the velhas conquistas.

gaumkares from siolim in the north to cuncolim in the south had no
other option but to meet the demands of the european missionaries.
for they could not afford to disobey as they were surrounded on all
sides by the portuguese troops, sea in the west and rivers in the
east. but cuncolim was an exception. it is bordered by the jungles
of quepem in the east and south and in the north they had river sal
as a barrier.

so the cuncolim gaumkares who enjoyed a sort of tactical advantage in
military language could afford to vent their anger upon the hapless
missionaries resulting in the shedding of blood of unarmed priests.

Enquiry ordered into affairs of PDAs:

[India News]: Panaji, Jan 28 : Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar
today ordered an investigation by Anti-Corruption Bureau into reports
that officials of the planning development authorities were indulging
in corruption, a day after he stripped the town and country planning
minister of his portfolio citing administrative corruption.

Parrikar, who relieved Atanasio Monserratte of the ministry yesterday
and issued a notification scrapping PDA's in rural areas, told PTI
that he had ordered an investigation into reports that officials of
the planning and development authorities were indulging in wide-scale
corruption and making open demands for money.

The Anti Corruption Bureau has been asked to look into these charges,
as I was getting a lot of complaints that certain officials in the PDA
were making direct demands for money, he said. PTI

[Goanet]Re: INOX statistics

2005-01-29 Thread Philip Thomas
 From Joel's clippings:

INOX PROVES SUCCESSFUL: The INOX draws an average of 3,000 viewers daily
which goes upto 3,500 on weekends. For Goans, 24 shows are screened daily in
the multiplex which has a capacity of 1,200 plus seats. At any given time,
only 4 per cent of the total crowd comprises of tourists while the balance
is overwhelmingly Goan. Judging the response so far, we are on the right
track and our efforts will definitely turn successful, says Rajan Singh,
the marketing manager. The daily collection at the multiplex is a whopping
Rs.2 lakh. (GT

---

Let's do some simple math.

24 shows 3000 viewers = 125 viewers per show

4 theatres with total 1,200 seats = 300 seats average per theatre

So we have an average 42% capacity utilisation of seats.
Is 42% considered 'successful' in the Movie Theatre Industry?

(Of course every movie I have been for had less than 25% of the seats
occupied but then maybe I went for the wrong shows -Cecil)

Rs. 2,00,000/- is collected from 3,000 viewers every day. That means each
viewer pays an average of Rs. 67/-. Strangely every show I have been for has
been priced at above Rs. 100/-. But then again maybe I go for the wrong
shows. [Cecil Pinto, Jan 27]

Back-of-the-envelope number-crunching like the above is always interesting.
But it could have been taken a step further.

Why not try plugging in 2000 for the number of viewers instead of 3000? You
will find that the yield per viewer goes up to Rs 100 and the utilisation
rate goes down to 28%. Both seem to correspond with personal experience.

The next question: Is the 3000 figure an inadvertent misprint or a
deliberately misleading input? Also worth thinking about: Is the total daily
take correct or is it something different?

What if there was a simple typo and it should read 2000 instead of 3000.
Then, hey presto!, we would have Rs 100 per viewer and 28% capacity
utilisation, both of which correspond with your personal experience!

2005-01-29 Thread Santosh Helekar
I was waiting to receive permission from Mr. Mario
Goveia to share some of his private classified
information with you, in my response to his latest
post under this thread.

Unfortunately, I have not received any response from
him. Perhaps, that information is too classified to be
shared with the public, or he is too busy defending
the honor of George W. Bush and his righteous ideology
in some other sector of cyberspace. I suspect that a
significant portion of the cyberspace has been
designated to be under his prosecutorial jurisdiction
by an order from the highest levels of the U.S.
government.

Therefore, I can only provide you with a few brief
insipid responses to some of his insightful comments.
The spicy details of his crusade against liberals,
leftists, psychopaths, islamofascists, terrorists,
pigs, ignoramuses, etc will have to wait for another
day, subject to his approval.

--- Mario Goveia [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Mr. Goveia is again very charitable to me here. What
he really thinks of me is actually much worse than
what is revealed in the above insulting remark, made
jokingly.

Now, in this post he continues to give us further
examples of his world-class skill with the abusive
adjective and adverb:

As I told him privately, I must admit that the
adjectives and adverbs I used, were carefully chosen
to elicit an emotional outburst from him. The outburst
could consist of one or more of the following: a) a
nice selection of expletives; b) derogatory references
such as terrorism supporter, Saddam supporter,
Islamofascist, anti-liberation gang member,
anti-semite, and anti-American; c) at least 5
repetitions of the words freedom and democracy, Iraq,
Al Zarqawi, Haroon Siddiqui, and context and
perspective; d) a sentence in capital letters; or e) a
fresh new reproduction of quotes from one of my
previous posts, especially one showing how I feel
about him.

Ladies and gentlemen, I believe the evidence points
to the accused, one Santosh Helekar, who stands
indicted by his own vicious verbiage.

As you can see, besides being a ferocious defender of
those who are with George W. Bush and a vilifier of
the rest of the world, Mr. Goveia is a stern
prosecutor. He indicts anyone who deviates from the
blast-faxed or blast-emailed slogans and talking
points of his righteous ideology.

You have no idea how much behind the scene effort has
been invested into his prosecutorial activities on
Goanet. Unfortunately, I cannot reveal the details of
this backbiting effort until Mr. Goveia gives me
permission to do so. Considering the amount of courage
and defiance that he has shown in this forum, I am
confident that he will grant me that permission.

I will try to show gentle persistence at making this
request for permission every time I have a chance to
respond to Mr. Goveia in the future.

Goa govt on shaky ground

http://in.rediff.com/news/2005/jan/29goa.htm

The Bharatiya Janata Party-led Goa government on
Saturday stood on shaky ground as two of its MLAs
resigned from the party and two ministers quit the
Cabinet.

Congress member of Parliament Churchill Alemao, while
confirming the news, told rediff.com that his party
will topple the government in 24 hours.

Babush Monserette, who was dropped from the council of
ministers by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar two days
ago, resigned from the party early on Saturday along
with party colleague Isidore Fernandes.

Fernandes was elected on a BJP ticket just two months
ago.

Almost simultaneously, Public Works Minister Sudin
Dhawalikar of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party and
Water Resources Minister Philip Neri Rodrigues, an
Independent, withdrew their support to the government.

Though Tourism Minister Mathany Saldhana, the third
minister belonging to the United Goans Democratic
Party, is away in Spain, his party functionaries have
also submitted a letter to Governor S C Jamir
withdrawing support to the Parrikar government.

Jamir, who had left for Nagaland on Friday, cut short
his trip and flew back to Goa from Mumbai on Saturday
morning.

Even after the resignation of two of its legislators,
the BJP has 19 members in the 40-member House.
However, with the MGP, the UGDP and an Independent
withdrawing their support, there is a big question
mark on its government.

The 15-member Congress is supported by NCP legislator
Dr Wilfred de Souza. The Congress' strength will rise
to 18 if the two ministers who have quit the
government join its camp.

You just wait and see how we topple the government,
said Alemao.

Two BJP MLAs resign from Goa assembly

NDTV Correspondent

Saturday, January 29, 2005 (Panaji):

Two BJP MLAs, including former minister Atanasio
Monserratte, today resigned from the Goa legislative
assembly.

Monserratte and Isidore Fernandes submitted their
letters to the Legislative Secretary stating they were
resigning from the House.

I have been humiliated in such a way that I thought
it is better to go home, said Monserratte.

Monserratte had on Friday resigned from the state
cabinet saying he did not have any moral duty to
continue after Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar
suddenly stripped him of the key portfolio of Town and
Country Planning on Thursday.

In an immediate response, Congress MLAs have gone to
the Governor claiming that they have the numbers to
form the government.

In the 40-member House, 21 seats belong to the BJP
while the Congress has 15 seats. Four seats belong to
the Independents.

The Congress says they have the support of the
independents and some BJP MLAs. (With PTI inputs)

Hello Gabe,
It was not in good taste, to read the article Sachin wrote. And it shows his
mentality. I was assuming him to be a well read, and educated person, and
write a well researched article on the subject. but somehow it proved wrong.
His support for a VCD, it shows his hatred for non Hindus, and I bet if he
has seen the movie DEV of Amitab Baachan, than the role of the top Police
guy, Om Puri, is a perfect role for him.As he has passed his judgement in
the quality of the VCD. I wonder what would happen if this movie was a
compulsary viewing in the Schools.

fight/argue with such a force - including their supporters.

There were 42 members of the Bin Laden family in the U.S. at the time
of the destruction of the twin towers. They were allowed to leave the
U.S. without interrogation because of their connections to the Bush

Next stop Tehran, unless Blair and the other European leaders can do

Dear Goanet members,
In connection with Goanet's 10th anniversary, and plans to become even more
meaningful to our readers in cyberspace, we have been working on a number
of
ideas over the past few months.

Over the past few years, we have launched the Cybermatrimonials network.
It
puts interested people in touch with each other, and builds links
leveraging
cyberspace. This, together with the 'birthdays/anniversaries initiative',
has
been well appreciated by our readership.

In the coming weeks, we will be announcing some new initiatives. But the
immediate one is the launch of Goanet News Service and a network called
Goanet-
Careers. We are currently finalising the launch of the Goanet News
Service,
which will bring in some special and exclusive coverage from, on and about
Goa.

We are specially looking at how we can go beyond the mainstream, newspaper-
based news circuit in Goa. We see Goanet as contributing to play a positive
role in creating more space for the average Goan (and friend of Goa) to
express themselves.
We also look forward to bringing out more content that would be relevant to
Goanetters of diverse age groups, interests and nationalities.
News has long been a vital input for Goanet. We recognise its importance in
keeping the Goan diaspora connected with Goa, in helping them understand
their
roots, and in playing a more critical role in making a difference to Goa
and
the lives of the people of the region, wherever they may be currently
living.
We are in the process of revamping our news setup, and should have better
options shortly in place. You can expect to see the impact of the changes
within the next fortnight.

In the meantime, we would like to thank Joel D'Souza (GoaCom) and wish him
well, for the news-summaries he has been offering our readers. Joel has
followed the footsteps of Vishwas Chavan and Frederick Noronha, and has
been
one who has sent out daily news to the members of Goanet. Joel moves on to
pursue other endeavours. His last news clippings will be posted at the end
of
January. We appreciate his contribution!

Goanet-Careers is oriented towards career-related issues for our readers.
More
information will follow.

How you can help Goanet:
 * Be a volunteer to report news happenings in your Goan community.
 * Be a volunteer to draw Goanet's attention to breaking news in
cyberspace.
 * Opt to volunteer as a 'Goanet Overseas Ambassador', a 'GOA' island
wherever
you're located, building links between Goanet and the wider community of
Goans
and people interested in Goa.
 * Give feedback and suggestions regarding Goanet and its content.
 * Forward copies of news and postings to non-Goanetters (family and
friends),
and suggest that they sign-up if they'd benefit from this service.

It is important to us that you give us feedback during this process so that
we
can tailor our services to provide you with the information you want and to
