I _adore_ my Rowenta DG-980 Steam Generator, but unfortunately it isn't

it didn't used too) and very occasionally spirts rust (probably 'cause I

I had a Sunbeam, purchased a year or two ago, that would shut off
constantly while being used; it did steam
Mine's a bog-standard tefal domestic iron, with a separate water tank.
Although I use it as a dry iron generally (I tend to use a spray bottle or
dauber if I need to steam), it has spray steam and shot of steam.
No idea what model number it is, though it's an older one - has been on 8-20
I recently had to replace my iron and got a Black and Decker Digital
Advantage D2020. I'm not sure I'd recommend this to anyone. I had very
little choice when purchasing this one, as I was in the middle of a
commissioned costume and couldn't wait more than 24 hours to find a
replacement.
Excellent point, andy, about one less thing to break or leak. i have spray
bottles that i could use instead. thanks!

I, also, have a Black and Decker. It's the Classic model - no auto shut-off
and just a regular, old-fashioned dial setting. Cost about $30. It, too, is
heavy, but I like that. It's almost the same as the GE I had in college in
1970's.
My criteria in an iron is how close to the point
It ain't the iron, it's the ironer.
Like anything else, you have to practise to be good at it,

I just dropped my Rowenta on my hard tile floor for the fifth or sixth time,
and it finally started to leak. Wha!
I just looked at Consumer Reports - their last iron review was in 2006. (I
wrote them and asked them to do another soon.)
I also contacted Threads magazine since most of their

Saragrace,
Thanks for sending out this request. I'm hoping to purchase a new iron soon
too, and have looked at the Rowenta line. My old Black Decker from over
15 years ago needs to be gently put to rest soon. I'm not committed to
Rowenta yet, remembering some of the recent comments.
So, what

isn't a
problem for me, I like to have steam and optional spray. If I was

get one without the automatic shut-off, I'd be happy but I don't

anyone is making those
I am like Andy, I love my steam tank system.
I have a Rowenta DG-980, with the removable tank. It
cost a little more, and I am not sure if the removable
tank is worth the extra cost, but I love it anyway. I
keep it on the entire time I am sewing, and it doesn't
shut itself off. Steam is great,
Oh yes - I definately do not iron! I press too! I don't care about spray,
cause I just use a bottle for thatand I REALLY don't like auto-shut off. I
use a timer and set it for the anticipated time - sometimes 8 hours - I intend
to sew. Also, I like a steel plate - not teflon.

Someone just pointed out that the Shark isn't on Costco online
