Even without all the parts, it's always said gurdy to me. Do you happen to
know where this picture comes from? I have it unattributed in my harp
iconography file.

I had
no idea about this type of scam and you say it is
fairly common..
About every two or three months someone will alert the harp mailing list to
another fraudulent eBay listing. Sometimes the listing will use the same
picture as an earlier fraudulent listing, either because it's
I don't know anything about this gurdy sale, but there is a fairly common harp
scam on eBay where the seller posts a picture that is either from a dealer or
other source or a previous (sometimes legit) eBay harp sale. Sometimes the
scammer hijacks an eBay seller ID from a legitimate party who
Well, looking at their blog, it seems more legitimate. I've actually heard of
this particular Dan Sullivan.

Maybe they think the gurdy will go to a better home via the blog than e-Bay.

How do you get X-rays?
Try a museum. Some have x-ray equipment or access to it. When I lived in
Pensacola, Florida I worked as a volunteer on some finds dredged up from a ship
that sank in the bay in 1559. Some of the extremely corroded finds were x-rayed
and/or cat scanned by one of the
I'm going to Pennsic -- I always go to Pennsic. No hg yet, but I'd be happy to
take your class and try other people's gurdies. I'm still shopping and playing

Huh? No, they are not the perfect school instrument, and they are not easier to
play or simpler than the recorder. The fingering may or may not
The issue is not security, it's airline policy and policy interpretation. TSA
has *authorized* US airlines to allow musical instruments on board (with

restrictions can include size and shape in addition to available space.

Ken,
What I've done for a couple of my larger harps is get a soft carrying case
and build a wooden shipping case with plenty of padding and insulation, into
which the soft-cased harp fits. So far, so good.
Do you think your hg and its soft case might fit under a seat or even
overhead? On
As long as we're on Breton music, does anyone have a transcription of Bale Kamp
Fouesnant? Is it in Toniou Breizh-Izel? I don't have this tome -- any
recommendations on where to get it, preferably the English version?
Thanks.
